## What is SailStats?

SailStats turns your iPhone into a customisable sailing instrument display, race start-line tool, session recorder and powerful sailing replay and analysis app.

Use SailStats with nothing more than your iPhone’s GPS, or connect it to your boat’s instruments for a much richer picture of every sail.

With a compatible NMEA 0183 Wi-Fi source — including supported B&G, Simrad and Lowrance chartplotters, or an NMEA Wi-Fi gateway — SailStats can display and record wind, heading, boat speed, depth and other onboard data alongside your GPS track.

RACE START

Get the information you need to plan and execute a better start.

• Ping both ends of the start line from the boat, place them on the map, or enter coordinates
• See distance to line, time to line and time to burn — whether you’re early or late at your current speed
• See line bias against the wind, or against the first mark when set
• Save racing marks and reuse them across races
• Choose between planning, numbers and line visualisation start screens
• Run your race countdown from your iPhone or Apple Watch

THE SAIL

Build the sailing display you want rather than adapting to a fixed dashboard.

• Create custom dashboards from 20+ sailing and NMEA data channels
• Display speed, wind, depth, VMG, heading and more when connected to NMEA data
• See true and apparent wind together on a wind rose
• Track lifts and headers with the wind-shift indicator
• Record your entire sail in the background, even with the screen off
• Use the Apple Watch app for customisable key sailing data and race information

AFTER THE SAIL

Every sail becomes a detailed record you can explore, replay and compare.

• Search and filter your sailing history by date and tags
• Tag sessions by boat, gear, race series or however you organise your sailing
• See summary statistics across your filtered sailing history
• Review distance, duration, average and maximum speed
• Find your best 10-second burst and best sustained mile or kilometre
• Analyse performance by point of sail — upwind, reaching and downwind
• Replay your entire sail on a map with instrument data alongside it
• Scrub backwards and forwards through your track to see exactly what was happening at any moment
• Replay data using digital or analog sailing instruments

THE FLEET

• Turn individual GPS tracks into a replay of the whole race.
• Create a shared race and invite other sailors with a join code or race link. After sailing, everyone can upload their track and replay the fleet together on one map.
• See who went where, where boats gained or lost, and compare real instrument and wind data when available.
• Time Trial mode lets you compare sessions recorded at different times over the same course — so you can race previous performances, including your own.

YOUR SAILING HISTORY

• SailStats is designed to become more useful the more you sail.
• Search, filter and tag your sessions and races, then see combined statistics across the sailing you’ve selected. Keep different boats, race series, training sessions or equipment organised while building a detailed record of your time on the water.

UNITS

• Choose knots, km/h or mph, and nautical miles, kilometres or miles.
• Data is stored independently, so changing units never changes your recorded history.

PRIVACY

• No account is required. Recording, review and analysis can all work entirely on your device.
• Sign in with Apple is optional and can be used to keep shared races connected to you across devices. Nothing is shared with a fleet unless you choose to share it.

SailStats is built by a sailor, for sailors — combining better pre-start tools, customisable sailing instruments and detailed post-sail analysis in one app.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.2 — 2026-09-08

SailStats 1.2 makes it easier to connect, record and understand your sailing.

• Multiple boats — Add every boat you sail, each with its own instrument connection, sails and session history.

• Smarter instrument connections — SailStats now remembers each boat’s NMEA address, with an option to connect automatically when you’re ready to sail.

• Find your fastest moments — Replay now highlights peak boat speed, SOG, VMG and wind speed. Tap a peak to jump straight to that moment on the track.

• Compare sail performance — Log sail changes and see average speed, maximum speed and VMG for each sail and leg.

• More accurate Max Speed — Improved filtering preserves genuine short speed peaks while rejecting bad GPS fixes.

Plus improved performance summaries, magnetic variation visibility, safer deletion, and a range of map, dashboard and usability fixes.

### 1.1 — 2026-08-31

This update makes SailStats easier to use across a season, more powerful after you sail, and more reliable on race day.

Find and understand every sail
Sessions and races now have search, date and tag filters, plus instant summaries of your filtered sailing — including distance, time, sailing days, maximum speed and average speed. Tag sessions by boat, gear, race series or anything else you want to track.

Better session playback
Replay your sailing with new analog instrument gauges and improved charts. Compare two data channels on a shared scale, making differences in speed, wind, heading and other data much easier to see.

A smarter marks library
Save racing marks once and reuse them across races. You can also set a first mark directly in SailStats, even without a chartplotter.

More accurate sailing data
Average speed calculations have been improved to use distance over time, giving a more representative measure of your sailing performance. We’ve also improved wind-shift detection so tacks aren’t mistaken for shifts.

Improved boat heading on map
When instrument heading data is available, the boat icon on maps and fleet replays now points where the bow is actually pointing — not simply the direction you’re moving. That means you can see the effects of leeway and current too.

Optional Sign in with Apple
SailStats still works without an account. But you can now optionally sign in to keep your shared races connected to you, making it easier to move to a new iPhone or iPad in future.

Faster race joining
Tap a SailStats race invite link and jump straight into the app to join the race.

Plus
• Improved Apple Watch wind-shift behaviour between races
• Updated default upwind and downwind sailing angles
• Lower foreground processing for improved efficiency during long sailing sessions
• Numerous smaller refinements and fixes
