WHAT IT PLAYS · SMX packages (.smxd) — streamed from an address or stored on your device · SMX works with picture (.smxv) — the sound and the film, side by side · Multichannel files up to 9.1.6 and 7.1.4 — WAV, AIFF, multichannel PCM · Ordinary files too — MP3, WAV, AIFF, M4A Multichannel files are folded to your headphones through the same HRTF path as an object mix. No downmix to stereo first. Tap an .smxd, an .smxv or a playlist anywhere — Files, Mail, AirDrop — and it opens here. WITH PICTURE A work can carry a film. The sound leads and the picture follows, and the latency of your headphones is measured rather than declared. Turn the phone and the picture turns with it. Works can ship several picture sizes. Pick one by hand, or set a cap for Wi-Fi and another for mobile data. What is playing is read from the file itself, not from its name. SEE THE ROOM The space monitor shows every object where it actually is, moving as the piece plays. Turn it, zoom, or step inside: in head view the camera sits where you sit, and with head tracking the picture turns as you do. Connect a TV or projector and it fills the screen on its own. The phone stays playable and the sound stays wherever you put it, so the picture can go to a projector while the audio goes to a PA. MEASURED, NOT GUESSED Loudness, peak, peak-to-loudness and loudness range for every piece, measured to BS.1770-4 and EBU R128. Set a playback target and pieces are brought to it — quiet ones only as far as their peak allows, so nothing gets squashed by a limiter. The energy curve shows left, right, front, back, up and down over the whole piece, and doubles as the scrubber. FIND THINGS AGAIN Recently played, favourites, recently added, videos, and a row for SMX packages. Open any of them full screen and group by artist. Album, genre, year and credits come from the package and are shown alongside the measurements. Instead of a finished mix of channels, a file holds the individual sounds and, for each of them, where it is and how it moves. No ceiling on how many objects a piece may hold. Formats with a fixed maximum — often a hundred and eighteen — force a mix to be reduced before it ships, and no player can undo that reduction later. An SMX package keeps what the mix had. What limits playback is the device, not the format. That is why this app can do what it does. A stereo or surround mix is already decided — the room was baked in when it was made. An SMX package still has the pieces, so it can be rendered for whatever you are listening on, and it can turn with your head, because the positions are still there to turn. Movement is described, not sampled. A sound that circles the room is a few lines saying so, not thousands of coordinates per minute. That keeps packages small enough to stream over mobile data. And it is meant to be reactive: the format reserves a way for objects to respond to something happening while the piece plays. That part is beginning, not finished. The format is free to use. No licence to buy, no per-title fee, no certification to pass, nobody to ask. Write an encoder, ship a player, put SMX in your own product — the specification and the reference implementation are open, and that does not change later. If you make spatial audio yourself, saimox Studio writes SMX and converts to and from all usual delivery formats. Open an .smxv and the picture plays with the sound — as its own mode, not a fifth tab. The sound leads and the picture follows. Below 40 ms nothing is corrected, above 200 ms it jumps, and the latency of your headphones is measured rather than declared. Turn the phone and the picture turns with it. · A Videos row on the home screen, and a full list behind it — duration, format, artist, play count · Tap the picture for name, transport, time and volume, tap again and they are gone · Scrub on the energy curve and the frame follows while you drag SEVERAL PICTURE SIZES A work can ship more than one size. Pick one by hand in the video window, or set a cap in Settings — one for Wi-Fi, one for mobile data, so a train journey does not cost what an evening at home does. With bandwidth thresholds in the work, the app can also choose by itself. The switch is visible: the picture goes black for a moment and comes back where it left off. The sound never stops. What is actually playing is read from the file — resolution, frame rate and codec, measured, not taken from the file name. VIDEO STREAM ON THE INFO TAB Buffered seconds, stalls, observed and declared bitrate, bytes transferred. These figures are reported by the system rather than counted by this app, and the tab says so: the audio figures next to them are counted here, where the bytes arrive. Each list shows a cover mosaic, its total playing time, and how many of its pieces are SMX packages. · Playlist covers are built from what is inside: one cover for a single piece, two halves for two, three wedges for three, quarters beyond that. · Transport controls in the list header — previous, play/pause, stop, next, shuffle. No need to switch to the player to skip a piece. · Artist page: everything by one artist, gathered across all your lists. · Search on the home screen, by title or artist, across all lists. · Paste many addresses at once, one per line. · Download a playlist from an address. If a list of that name already exists, you choose what happens: replace it, add what is missing, or keep both. · Long-press a piece to move or copy it to another list, skip, or remove it. Removing from a list and deleting from the device are now separate, and both ask first. · Measured loudness for each piece, shown in the list. · In the info tab, each object glows with its level rather than simply showing whether it is active. FIXED · Shared playlists were unusable: the exported file pointed at the local copy instead of the original address. · A piece could play twice, slightly offset, after repeating a list. · Playing a remote piece downloaded it again every time, filling storage and re-using mobile data. · The keyboard could not be dismissed in the address field. · The play indicator did not change while a streamed piece was playing. · A piece fetched from an address was labelled as a local file. ### 1.0.1 — 2026-09-02 NEW · Second screen — connect a TV or projector and it fills the screen on its own.
