### 2/5 — Needs a List feature

*2026-08-30, version 3.67.0*

I would agree with other reviews that say that if you are trying migrate people from
the SmartShop app to here for in-store shopping, then it urgently needs that app’s List functionality. Please add this in, otherwise this app is of no use to me.

### 4/5 — Shopping List!

*2026-08-29, version 3.67.0*

The separate Sainsbury’s smart shop app has a shopping list function that allows you to create a basic tick box list of items to find that is still visible whilst doing smart shop scanning.

Please fully integrate the experience of the smart shop app into this Sainsbury’s app if you wish for us to fully switch to just using this one.

### 2/5 — No shopping list

*2026-08-28, version 3.67.0*

The best thing with the old smart shop app was the shopping list. Can we have this feature added to the Sainsbury’s grocery app please? Also why do I still have scan before I can start shopping in my main store? Surely as this doesn’t happen in every store it’s about time it was scrapped it’s very annoying!

### 3/5 — Smartshop app better

*2026-08-28, version 3.67.0*

I used to use smartshop app which was useful to scan items in store and keep track of my shopping list. The shopping list seems unavailable on this app which is quite frustrating.

The features within the migrated smartshop seem improved, such as quicker barcode scanning and more up to date UI

However, for people like me who don’t purchase items online, this app migration seems unnecessary especially with the lack of a shopping list feature. Seems this migration could have been a bit postponed until this became available.

Further comments to make this migration more seamless include UI improvements like the Waitrose app. A static button for smartshop above the bottom nav bar would make smartshop easier to find and click. This may be a small change but would greatly improve my user experience. This would make it a lot more accessible especially when needed quickly while carrying items.

Some bottom nav items also seem useless for me as a previous smartshop app user. For example, favourites and trolley.

Also, like the waitrose app, it would be useful to just scan the kiosk QR code on the same page as normal scanning instead of needing to click the checkout button and reconfirming. When the kiosk QR code is available to scan should be enough indication you completed your shop.

### 3/5 — SmartShop Downgrade

*2026-08-28, version 3.67.0*

Disappointed that this app has taken over SmartShop which always provided an easy, quick and seamless in store experience. The new app always tries to automatically collect to in-store WiFi (which I’ve never accepted on my phone) and the WiFi doesn’t work so everytime I have to manually turn WiFi off to proceed with my shop, very frustrating. Also cannot see my nectar prices anymore? Connected my nectar but it still doesn’t show in app even though when I follow link to the website it says it has. Bring back smart shop!

### 3/5 — Disappointed

*2026-08-28, version 3.67.0*

Saddened that the option to view favourites by category has been removed. Dislike viewing by most purchased thus random list to scroll through and has resulted in missing to buy needed items.

### 3/5 — New App Is Awful

*2026-08-28, version 3.67.0*

I’d like to be able to type out my own shopping list but that’s no longer possible? If I want to buy a card for example I want to choose it myself!
Navigating round the app is so complicated I feel like I need a college course to explain it! I had to revert back to the nectar app to apply my offers. The scan and go is ok, but the scanner stays open so I end up having random things added to my basket that I haven’t bought as I walk round the store. Hopefully things get sorted out soon, it’s very frustrating. It’s bad enough that the store had decided to rearrange their shelves at the same time as having the new app.

### 2/5 — Scan-as-you-go charges more expensive prices to those on the shelf

*2026-08-28, version 3.67.0*

Functionally, the app works well. However, there seems to be an issue with the prices the app charges. A bag of onions which were labelled as 95p on the shelf were 99p when I scanned them in the app. Cookies that were on a Nectar offer to £1.12 on the shelf were £1.13 when I scanned them. I don’t know how many other items are mispriced, and whether it’s by more than a few pence, but it’s frustrating.

### 3/5 — Love Sainsbury’s, too much grief covering Gift Card to Voucher

*2026-08-28, version 3.67.0*

I always use Sainsbury’s App but today’s been an horrendous nightmare. I selected my products on the app via my phone then I go to checkout, but there’s nowhere at all to add a gift card. I then go onto my iPad and through the App again and waste more time logging back in again - no gift cards area. Unbelievable, I then had to login to my chrome book, wasting more time trying to get the order through. I enter the gift card because guess what? You have to convert it to a coupon once you’ve entered gift card number. For example, I loaded up a £15 gift card and it then asks do you want to use £10 or £15 but if you don’t select one nothing will happen, and your total will not change. You must change all gift cards to coupons otherwise you cannot use them.

### 2/5 — Smart shop

*2026-08-26, version 3.66.0*

I have used SmartShop for a long time and have found the scanning exceptionally efficient. Yesterday tried to use the SmartShop within the Sainsbury’s app and the scanning was horrendous. Please incorporate the original SmartShop scanning function in the Sainsbury’s app.

### 2/5 — Lists and smart shopping

*2026-08-22, version 3.66.0*

The smart shop app has moved to the main Sainsbury’s app. Ok, fine. Last night I spent ages writing a list on the main app, which isn’t as simple as the previous smart app. Sometimes I just want to write “dinner” then I have a browse in the shop looking to see what I fancy. The new list feature requires you to look up actual items. Which is frankly annoying.

Now, let’s get to the really frustrating part. I don’t have a whole lot of time, lots to do etc. I go to Sainsbury’s, scan the code for smart shopping, shop for several items I knew I needed, then wanted to check my list to see what I wanted next and…I can’t get to my list without cancelling the shopping I’ve just done. Whose bright idea was that? Seriously??? The old smart app was so easy flicking from the scanner, to list, to basket. So I had to do the rest of my shop hoping I wouldn’t forget anything. I’m a menopausal woman, I need a list!

One new feature where you can check stock (which Tesco app has had for years) will be handy once my local Sainsbury’s is included (Castlepoint, Bournemouth). I assume the online shopping part is still the same. So a couple of stars for that, but please change it so you can see your list whilst shopping, and please change it so you can add generic words like “dinner” or “veg” or “x b’day card”.

Please rethink it.

### 3/5 — Sign in issues

*2026-08-21, version 3.66.0*

I’ve given very good reviews in the past.

Recently the app frequently logs out. At sign in, the iPhone Password integration seems to be broken, so it’s necessary to copy from the password app. This happens a few times a week, and makes it really annoying to add to our shopping basket.

Previous review…

Good shopping app. Great work to the team.

A point I have long hoped you could improve is the need to check out changes, which with going through payment authorisation, is slow. Needing to remember to do this is awkward. We sometimes forget, and this causes quite a bit of stress. I think improvements here would really improve the customer experience of your app. Thanks.

### 2/5 — Needs a shopping list in smartshop

*2026-08-20, version 3.66.0*

Great that all is moving into one app rather than separate for smartshop. However, the shopping list needs to be bought across as well to improve ease of use.

### 3/5 — Replacement for SmartShop app

*2026-08-20, version 3.66.0*

Tried out for first time today found it easy to operate but scan fails are easier to miss. The list of what is purchased is only displayed if you change screen. Why can’t the purchase list be displayed briefly after a successful scan because having to actively find the purchase list is annoying a I will continue to use the old SmartShop app until it’s turned off

### 4/5 — Looks great but missing essentials

*2026-08-20, version 3.66.0*

I recently downloaded this because my SmartShop app kept yelling at me that I could now do in-store shopping via the Sainsbury’s app. It didn’t work for me at first but the latest update finally integrated the function.

However, the most useful part about SmartShop was that it had a shopping list function, and you could seamlessly go from the list to the active shop to check what you were missing or tick off things in your basket/trolley.

This function doesn’t appear in the Sainsbury’s app and I hope it will be added immediately.

### 2/5 — Terrible for SmartShop

*2026-08-20, version 3.66.0*

I was being encouraged to use this instead of the SmartShop app, which I assume will soon be discontinued. It took me ages to even find the shopping list function on this app, which is very clunky to use. Then turned out was impossible to view of access it whilst using SmartShop in store anyway! So had to use the old app and switch between the two. Please make the shopping list function usable 🙏

### 2/5 — Not working in my local?

*2026-08-19, version 3.66.0*

Always used Smart Shop. A pop up on that app said it was moving Smart Shop to the Sainsbury’s app. But when opening at my local it says it doesn’t work in the small stores (which Smart Shop did). So this is a step back.

### 3/5 — Shopping list: where art thou?

*2026-08-18, version 3.66.0*

I’ve downloaded and set up this app after the on-screen SmartShop prompts, but as many other reviewers have noted, where has the shopping list gone? It’s a vital feature for so many users. It’s constantly added to at any odd moment, and now I’m switching between the SmartShop shopping list and scanning with this app which seems an unnecessary hassle. If it’s possible, the ability to swipe/toggle between the basket and shopping list - or open a horizontally split screen within the app - is the solution.

### 4/5 — Online shopping

*2026-08-17, version 3.66.0*

On time delivery and the person was really nice.

### 4/5 — Check outbound acccess

*2026-08-17, version 3.66.0*

At the moment most of it is accessable save for the chekc page. Since the last update yo can no longer chosoe deliver slopt time fi you use voice over speahc software on th eiphone

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — One step forward, two steps back!

*2026-08-29, version 3.67.0*

Pleased that Smart Shop is now integrated but it beeps after every scan even if you have sounds turned off in settings. It also cuts off all other audio, so no music while shopping. As an autistic person this has a real impact for me. Also disappointed that sort by category was removed from favourites yet it’s still available on your website.

### 1/5 — Unable to find my order number but took my money

*2026-08-27, version 3.67.0*

Extremely disappointing experience. My grocery order didn’t arrive, so I called the helpline, and I was told someone will ring back to give me an update within 30minutes to an hour. No one ever did and I had to call again myself.

I was eventually told that my order was put on hold. The only option offered was redelivery next day from 7pm!

Imagine waiting for your grocery so your family can have dinner, while also relying on it to have food ready for guests the following day. This was incredibly frustrating and unacceptable. I was finally offered an inconvenience fee of £15! What’s that going to get for us that night!

I’ve never had an experience like this with other stores. I order from Sainsbury’s after a long time because of the discount but honestly it wasn’t worth the hassle. Very disappointed with the service.

### 1/5 — Update he made it worse

*2026-08-24, version 3.66.0*

Makes it so hard to find the best price for an item now.
As you can no longer but your favourites in category order
End up Dublin up one items in different sizes s well 🤯

### 1/5 — Each time I use it I have to log in again.

*2026-08-24, version 3.66.0*

...then I select "authenticate using face ID", but next time it forgets. This used to be intermittent, now it is all the time.

### 1/5 — No access to shopping list in-store?

*2026-08-19, version 3.66.0*

This app is great for online shopping, no question. And the old ‘scan as you shop’ app was perfect. Since the latter has been incorporated into the main Sainsbury’s app, it has lost any cohesive purpose. The whole point of scanning your own shopping in-store is that you can see your shopping list, and tick things off as you purchase them, but this seems to be impossible in the blended app. Firstly, you need to label a shopping list and save it, then you can’t access it when you do your own scanning via your phone. Utterly pointless! I’m really hoping this is resolved before the full migration of the Scan as you shop app, but til then I’ll be keeping the two different apps, thanks. Failure to improve will just lead me to Tesco which has a much more cohesive experience, even though I prefer the choice and the shopping experience at Sainsbury’s. Absolutely NOT an acceptable upgrade.

### 1/5 — Constantly logs me out

*2026-08-18, version 3.66.0*

I can’t seem to stay logged in ever with this app. Even when I try to log in it won’t then let me pull up my saved passwords. That and it’s full of weird glitches where half the screen is black. That’s not to mention the times it simply won’t work or let you check out. I find the Tesco app far more reliable

### 1/5 — New Update

*2026-08-16, version 3.66.0*

Where is my ‘sort by category’ section on my favourites? Get it fixed. Stupidity taking it off the app.

### 1/5 — Absolutely useless

*2026-08-16, version 3.66.0*

Had used the SmartShop app for years without issue, got nagged by the app to switch to the Sainsbury’s app. Took ages to set up, finally did so and now the SmartShop part of the app doesn’t even work! It keeps telling me to go to the store while I’m standing in it! About as useful as Swiss Coast Guard knife. Great job, you muppets 🙄🤦‍♂️

### 1/5 — Loss of Shopping list

*2026-08-15, version 3.66.0*

I am disappointed that the shopping list facility which was available on the old shop and scan app seems to have disappeared now that it has been merged with the on line shopping app. This was an extremely valuable facility to me, can we have it back please. The app doesn’t tell you to check your nectar offers at the start of the shopping but at the end when you have paid. This has cost me money.

### 1/5 — First time user - Errors every time

*2026-08-14, version 3.66.0*

I’ve paid the £80 annual delivery pass, no issues with accepting that money. Then when I try to book my first order it errors every time. I’ve tried on a laptop, mobile browser and in the app, same issue. When I call for help I get told to try again in an hour and if not call back… Awful first experience of trying to set up food deliveries!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Smart shop update

*2026-08-28, version 3.67.0*

I was a regular user of the smart app and its inclusion in this does add some improvements. Especially with the scanning of items. However the loss of the list, which was one of the most useful items on the Smart shop. Allowed access to build your requirements between shops and then tick them off as you shop.
Can the list please be added back to the smart shop.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2026-08-25, version 3.66.0*

Easy to navigate

### 5/5 — Unable to see Smart List (beta) in store when doing a Smart Shop

*2026-08-19, version 3.66.0*

I use the app in store to complete a Smart Shop. Beforehand, I create a Smart List (beta) of items I wish to purchase. However, once I have started an in store Smart Shop, there is no way to navigate to the Smart List (beta) so I am having to rely on screenshots to see what is on my list. Great if you can fix this on the next update.

### 5/5 — App developers have listened!

*2026-08-14, version 3.66.0*

I appreciate the recent improvement to the app where I can view similar products!

### 5/5 — Add to cart

*2026-08-12, version 3.66.0*

I love the new “add to cart” buttons that lets you add an item straight into the basket of your next delivery - great idea!

### 5/5 — Fantastic customer service

*2026-08-11, version 3.65.0*

I’m now disabled and every time I have a online shop or go to the shop with the access bus I’ve never been disappointed the staff are helpful and always polite

### 5/5 — Sainsbury’s

*2026-08-07, version 3.65.0*

I used SmartShop on the Sainsbury’s app for the first time today. I found it very user-friendly. Thanks for consolidating everything.

### 5/5 — Silly bugs!

*2026-08-03, version 3.65.0*

Can no longer sort favourites by category and accidentally clicking into an item in the favourites list, and then back, randomly takes you back to the top! Do you use your own app???

### 5/5 — Great

*2026-08-01, version 3.65.0*

Im alway trusted Sainsbury’s own brand from when I use to go my Nan to get the ham and bacon cut on number 5. Although those days have gone, I still trust the products.

### 5/5 — Busy mum

*2026-07-27, version 3.64.0*

Excellent
