## What is SalishFont?

The SalishFont app adds phonetic symbols to iOS 12+ device keyboards to enable the user to type in the Salish language. Until now it has been difficult for Indigenous Language Speakers to utilize their language in iPods, iPhones and iPads. With this app's keyboards Salish speakers can enter various Interior Salish dialects into any iOS textfield, including social media, note taking apps and web browsers.

The phonetic characters in the SalishFont app keyboards include numbers, standard punctuation, glottal stops, vowels, accented vowels, consonants, glottal consonants, and wedged consonants.

The app includes installation instructions including keyboard enabling.

### 5/5 — removed ə

*2025-05-29, version 1.1*

Loved the accessibility of the app and cleaner look with the update, but unfortunately the schwa (ə) was removed. This is a key letter in our alphabet and I’m so sad! I would love this to be fixed.

### 3/5 — It’s glitchy, good for getting the letters but can be glitchy.

*2020-12-23, version 1.0*

So I bought the keyboard and it’s good overall, but sometimes when I try to exit back to my English font it won’t allow me to leave and glitches like that. Annoying but not a deal breaker.

### 2/5 — Use FirstVoices app instead

*2020-04-16*

Since leaving the review below I’ve found the FirstVoices app - it works better and is free!

It’s annoying to have to switch between consonant keyboard > English keyboard > vowel keyboard, and vice versa for nearly every word. If you could find a way to fit all the letters onto the same keyboard by using shift or something, that would be ideal. Thanks for trying though!

### 4/5 — It's okay but...

*2016-08-18*

I like the idea of having my language on a keyboard ,but I don't get all the letters on the same key board with would not be a problem if when I press to go back it send me to English keyboard I'll give it 4 stars for trying.

P.s. Keyboard is not as seen on the model it shows
