### 2/5 — A broken web view

*2026-04-07*

I recently created an account and logged into the website with my phone, I used 1password to setup a passkey for login.
When attempting to login to the app I am unable to use 1password for my passkey, thus blocking my login. I had to add text verification instead to be able to login to the app, not well thought out.
Also after logging in it appears to just be a web view within an app, what’s the point?

### 1/5 — First update in years is a fail

*2026-03-16*

First, STILL no landscape support for iPad. Then, the first time one logs in (after doing the 2FA prompts), cannot even navigate to see account balances, transfers. App froze, then threw an error. Figured I’d log out and back in to try again. Nope. Even the log out link threw an error and said to try again later or call. Such a a shame in this day and age not to have a functional, well-designed and secure banking apt.

### 1/5 — Worst sign on for any app

*2026-03-14, version 24.1.2*

It’s great that they finally added a second verification, but their signon isn’t compatible with the iPhone password app. How could any viable company make an app that isn’t compatible with one of the major devices used by their customers.

### 1/5 — If I could give -5 stars, I would!

*2026-03-14*

The previous version of the app was probably from the 1900s but at least you could check your balance without major trouble. This “new version” is unusable! If it took this bank this long (YEARS!) to update this app and this is the best they can do, I simply need to go somewhere else. If this is the quality of their IT infrastructure, I can’t imagine what kind of support they would be able to provide if I ever need real help! An embarrassment of an app for any bank!

### 1/5 — New App is Horrible

*2026-03-13*

The newly redesigned app's UI is horrible. Immediately upon launch it goes in to an integrated web browser which looks and feels horrible.

I get doing it this way simplifies things but the UI of it is horrible. It is allowing to scroll left to right when there should be no need to.

Also, no support for syncable software passkeys, let alone hardware keys.

### 1/5 — Just use the website

*2026-03-13, version 24.1.2*

The app won’t use my Face ID to enter my login info or let me use the iOS passkey for verification. Sometimes the login page won’t even load.

### 1/5 — Still no Face ID after 2026 update

*2026-03-12, version 24.1.2*

Still no Face ID, you added MFA which is great but still no option for biometric login at least for IPhone

### 1/5 — No Access

*2026-03-10, version 24.1.2*

I have not been able to access the application since this new update.

### 1/5 — No Face ID?

*2026-03-06, version 24.1.2*

Please simplify the login process

### 1/5 — Money Market Account

*2026-02-11*

Terrible App! Opened an account and tried to wire money in. Needed to reference 2 small transactions that did not immediately appear in the account. By the time I was able to verify, a lock had been placed on my account. When I called, rep asked me literally 10 questions to verify my account. I closed the account and am having them mail check. What a hassle.

### 3/5 — Face ID

*2026-02-09, version 24.1*

App does what I need it to but really needs face ID access. Password manager apps don’t work with it so face ID would make it a lot more functional.

### 2/5 — No Face ID login.

*2025-10-08, version 24.1*

How is it every financial app has Face ID and Sallie Mae’s app doesn’t? We’re on the verge of AI world and you don’t have Face ID ?

### 1/5 — Awful

*2025-01-17, version 24.1*

Worst app ever. Also only one I have encountered that doesn’t offer Face ID

### 1/5 — App might as well not exist

*2024-10-12*

This app serves no function. Literally as soon as you login in, you are met with a white screen. Wanna try clicking the options at the bottom? Well they don’t do anything either. There is no use for this app as it is right now. I have to login on my laptop if I want to view anything related to my account.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2024-09-01, version 20.2.2*

The app is broken and doesn’t load. You just get the loading circle of death.

### 1/5 — Absolutely ridiculous

*2024-08-25*

Just look at version history, hasn’t been updated in over a year, which tells you all you need to know. Worthless app. No facial or touch ID. Can’t see your full account number. Doesn’t display APY. Slow response. For CD, other banks display cumulative (daily) accrued interest prior to monthly posting, but not with this app. Will not be renewing CD upon maturity.

### 1/5 — It’s so bad I thought it might be a scam

*2024-08-20, version 20.2.2*

I keep checking to make sure this app isn’t a scam. It absolutely does not work. It’s just a blank screen. How does a huge bank not have an app that works??

### 1/5 — Useless app

*2024-08-06, version 20.2.2*

No functionality, breaks down, no Face ID

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — The Worst Financial App

*2026-07-03, version 24.1.2*

I’m surprised a bank would release an application so poorly designed.

### 1/5 — Still not fixing the critical sign in issue?

*2026-06-23*

It’s been months since the new app version was released and numerous reviews complaining that the sign in experience is broken.

Was this app outsourced and you’re not paying the company for an update? Did y’all cut back and let the team go that built it in the first place? Seems like people are just reviewing into the void here with no response for fixing a critical bug. If you can’t sign in then the app is useless.

Please fix it. You’re using web view within the native app for sign in that is botching the passkey process. This is a fixable problem.

At this point, the Sallie Mae brand is taking a hit on this one. It’s just embarrassing.

### 1/5 — Username and pass do not autofill from iOS password feature. App is unusable

*2026-05-30, version 24.1.2*

Username and pass do not autofill from iOS password feature. You have to manually open the passwords app, then copy and paste the password into Sallie Mae. Crazy that this was not fixed during testing phase.

### 1/5 — Worst Banking App or website ever!

*2026-05-05, version 24.1.2*

By far worst app and website I’ve ever used. But on the bright side there 5 year cd rates are some of the best around.

### 1/5 — Broken App

*2026-04-27, version 24.1.2*

Not sure what they did to this app, but it’s broken. Can’t login with it anymore. It keeps getting stuck at some FIDO Authentication. I can only login from a web browser.

### 1/5 — Needs a rework

*2026-04-08, version 24.1.2*

The latest version of the app doesn’t pull from iPhone passwords like the previous version did. Please consider a revision to create something more compatible with the iPhone.

### 1/5 — They will lock your accounts

*2026-04-07*

My money has been sitting with them since 2025. They are scammers and thiefs. They will lock your account right after you make a deposit don’t do it . I made a deposit of $2200 into my savings and this guy Angel Martinez decided to lock and steal the money . That’s what they do . You call and nobody picks or help . Don’t fall for it . I learned my lesson the hard way now they have $2200 locked up . Is ponzi bank don’t do it

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2026-04-03*

Unable to log in. FIDO authentication works fine on the website but you can’t get past it on the mobile app. The security key prompt never pops up. I’ve looked on the website to see if I need to enable mobile banking, and there is no option for that. The app is useless.

### 1/5 — Really cheap app

*2026-03-30, version 24.1.2*

They may have the best rates but wow this app is basically a web app that doesn’t work great and doesn’t even save your profile

### 1/5 — Ridiculously difficult to use

*2026-03-16, version 24.1.2*

This new update sucks. Can’t pick up password from storage. Have to type in username and password. Says new password already used when not used. Just terrible.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Online Banking for busy people

*2026-03-13*

I discovered this banking online years ago. Their rates for money markets and savings accounts are higher than many others. Easy to transfer, link to other accounts and for writing paper checks whenever necessary. I highly recommend everyone to open an account for free of charge!

### 5/5 — Easy App

*2025-12-02*

While traveling I needed to check on the transfer initiated, I was able to download and view the account details without any problems!

### 5/5 — Works very smoothly

*2022-10-10*

Clean layout and good functioning app for checking on my Sallie Mae bank account. The developers must have overhauled the app, because none of the criticisms in all of these older reviews seem to apply anymore – except possibly the absence of the app’s ability to memorize your UserID/password, which I NEVER do for banking apps anyway. I’m happy with it.

### 5/5 — It Works Just Fine.

*2020-11-27*

If you’re a savings customer of Sallie Mae, this app works just fine. No issues here. Haters to the left.

### 5/5 — Banking app

*2013-02-28, version 1.2*

For those complaining that it doesn't support student loans, maybe you should have been smart enough to read the description. Or just notice the name of the app is "Sallie Mae Banking" not "Sallie Mae Student Loans".

You can tell this is still in version 1, very basic usage but does what I need it to.

### 5/5 — Not bad if you don't have to deal with loans

*2013-02-24, version 1.2*

I have an account with Sallie Mae and had issues using this app until I realized that I had to enable mobile banking through the web. Once that was done, there are no problems. It's easy to deposit checks thru the app. I don't have student loans with them and since it seems that the majority of the complaints are the lack of student loan servicing feature, the negative reviews didn't apply to me.

### 5/5 — Works Great

*2012-10-05, version 1.1*

Just have to register on Sallie Mae's website for mobile access or it gives you an error. I'm fairly certain the bad reviews are from people's inability to read. Don't let their mistakes dissuade you from downloading this app.

### 5/5 — Sheesh!

*2012-01-18, version 1.0.2*

I'm really tired of idiots bashing the app because it doesn't service student loans. To those morons I would suggest that their education failed them greatly since they apparently can't read. Also, to the numbnuts who have boldly stated that more people do loans than bank through Sallie Mae, again, your education has failed you. Sallie Mae has some of the best interest rates, has for a while, and plenty of people bank with them. Those mentioned above are what is wrong with America today, completely lacking in responsibility and accountability. If you don't read the description, it is hardly fair to blame the app. If you did read the description, then why would you believe the app would be capable of more than it states? Grow up people. Review the app in the merits of its description, not your own assertions.

App does what it says. I have yet to have a banking app that is completely full featured and hassle free. This one is basic, but basic gets it done.

### 5/5 — Works as advertised, better than using the website

*2012-01-11, version 1.0.2*

For those having connection issues, you must first log into your account on the website and sign up for mobile account access. You will then have to verify your phone, for security reasons. After that, you will be able to log into this app.

It works well for me, especially the check deposit via image function. I can transfer money on the go and check my balance. All the necessities are right here.

### 5/5 — Works perfect!

*2011-12-23, version 1.0.2*

The app does exactly as it is supposed to do based on the description of the app. It is a very robust mobile banking app. It is not intended for student loans.

You are able to check account balances, deposit checks, transfer money, and setup account alerts.
