## What is Samadhi?

Samadhi is a quiet meditation companion built on the Theravada Buddhist tradition.

Every morning, a single line of contemplation — drawn from the Dhammapada, the suttas, or recognized Theravada teachers like Ajahn Chah — meets you on the Practice tab. Read it, then sit. The card rotates deterministically by date, so every practitioner around the world reads the same verse on the same day.

THE PATH (Pa Auk-aligned)

Walk a traditional progression at your own pace:
• Anapanasati (mindful breathing)
• Metta (loving-kindness)
• Kayanupassana (body mindfulness)
• Vipassana (insight)
• Kasina (concentration objects)
• Jhana (deep absorption)
• Upekkha (equanimity)

Each stage names its living teachers — Pa-Auk Sayadaw, Sharon Salzberg, Mahasi Sayadaw, Bhante Henepola Gunaratana, Ajahn Brahm, and others — alongside curated reading from the canon.

DHAMMA TAB

Watch hand-curated YouTube playlists from Sama Meditation & Stories: Buddha's Dhamma, Buddha's Stories, Meditate in 10, Meditate in 20.

Read excerpts from When Laozi Met the Buddha — 36 lessons on peace, purpose, and letting go — with one-tap links to Apple Books, Google Play Books, and Amazon Kindle.

DANA-SUPPORTED

No ads. No paywalls. No subscriptions hiding the path. Optional one-time donations (Tea, Incense, Retreat) and a recurring Monthly Supporter tier let practitioners who benefit give back — just as the Dhamma has always been freely given.

PRIVACY

Your sessions, streak, and reflections live on your device. No analytics. No tracking. No accounts. Your practice is yours.

LANGUAGES

English, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese.

iPad: optimized layout with side-by-side Progress view and 2-column Dhamma grid.

PRACTICE NOT METRICS

Streaks live quietly on the Progress tab. Milestones celebrate steps along the Path, not raw session counts. The post-sit moment is silent — no dopamine hits, no badges popping.

Samadhi exists to help a practitioner sit, not to help an app retain a user.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.5.1 — 2026-07-15

• The Dana page now says plainly where your generosity goes: to human teachers and translators — no ads, no data sold, no AI-generated dharma
• A gentler touch — the invitation to support now appears only once, never repeated

### 2.5.0 — 2026-06-17

• Pause and resume a sit — for the real interruptions of a householder's life, without losing the session
  • Sessions are no longer lost if you leave mid-sit — an honest sit of a minute or more is kept
  • A quieter first arrival: the Path now opens with the breath and unfolds stage by stage, so newcomers aren't met with a wall of locked stages
  • Send feedback to the kalyanamitta directly from Settings — your words shape the practice
  • A first screen that says what Samadhi is: no ads, no tracking, no accounts; your practice stays on your device
  • Fixes: corrected text that could appear untranslated on the Sila and milestone screens

### 2.4.4 — 2026-05-30

• New Colorblind-Safe Palette in Settings → Appearance — switches three confusable accent tokens (teal, success-green, soft-red) to colors from the Okabe–Ito Color Universal Design palette, distinguishable across deuteranopia, protanopia, and tritanopia
  • Default stays the same — anyone who doesn't need it sees no change

### 2.4.3 — 2026-05-17

• Path stage detail now lets you adjust the session length before you begin — same ±5 min picker and tap-to-custom dialog the Practice tab already has
  • New Ending Bell toggle in Settings → General — silence the completion bell for sessions and retreat blocks when you want a quieter close
  • Sane defaults: ending bell stays on for anyone who never opens Settings; existing behavior unchanged

### 2.4.1 — 2026-05-12

• Retreat — four canonical mixed retreats (half-day, full-day, 3-day weekend, 7-day intensive) anchored to the four tetrads of the Ānāpānasati Sutta (MN 118)
• Per-day arc on multi-day retreats: Establishing (1st tetrad / kāyānupassanā), Deepening (2nd & 3rd tetrads / vedanā, cittā), Insight (4th tetrad / dhammā), Releasing (Mettā close, Karaṇīya Mettā Sutta / Sn 1.8)
• Vipassana sits labeled by satipaṭṭhāna foundation (vedanā / cittā / dhammā) so each block carries an explicit contemplation
• Refuges & Precepts open every retreat; Karaṇīya Mettā Sutta closes every retreat
• Honest tracking — retreat history surfaces quietly on Progress, separate from the daily streak
