### 5/5 — Fire! One request?

*2022-01-28*

Total game changer - so necessary. Any chance you’ll make this available on Mac? Really need something along these lines for the MacBook desperately. Would happily pay again. Twice. 🙏

**Developer response:** I'll try porting this one. Fingers crossed :)

### 5/5 — Time saving!

*2021-12-22*

Thanks for the app. It is filled with shortcuts to build kits and organize. That said…when exporting a crate into a “sample chain”…the audio is slightly raised in pitch within that “sample chain” that was created. I assume a quick fix on your end will sort it out. Thanks again.

Edit: The sample chain pitch issue has been fixed!! Thank you Alex!

**Developer response:** Thanks. Should be fixed
Edit: I'm super glad it is!

### 5/5 — Useful and easy to use!

*2021-12-05*

Very useful and even more so since it’s possible to save crates! Fast and simple to use! Great tool to preview and group multiple samples and export them in a single operation.

**Developer response:** Thank you. I'm super glad you like it

### 5/5 — Fills a growing need

*2021-12-01*

I have 55GB of samples scattered all over my fileshares and this streamlines my workflow already so I can audition and load quickly and get on with the business of music making. Thanks to the dev. for making this and saving my time.

**Developer response:** Thank you. I am so glad you find it useful

### 5/5 — Very Promising

*2021-11-29*

Update: Thank you for adding the sample time bar! Awesome and much easier to find the perfect sample.

Problem, when I add samples to the ‘crate’ and try and export a sample chain or individual samples, the resulting file has no audio and a file size of 4kb. This is exporting to Cubasis3 and BeatMaker 3.

——

Love the idea and the usefulness. One thing that is really needed is scrubbing/waveform view so you can scan through a sample easy. Right now it always starts from the beginning. If you have acapellas, it’s good to scan through to the hook to see how it sounds. A great app and looking forward to seeing it develop further!

**Developer response:** Thanks. Coming in the next update

### 5/5 — IOS Musician Must Have

*2021-11-27*

How can anyone give this almost free incredibly handy and indispensable utility anything but 5 stars? Oh yeah it's the selfishness pandemic in action. Everyone only cares about what they want so they make the developer suffer until he adds a feature they want. Sending an email is too much trouble. It makes me laugh when I see a 3 star rating after reading the review saying how great the app is and will give 5 stars if the app has the features he wants. If the app is great you give 5 stars and send the dev an email suggesting things. You don't screw sales for your features. You don't take off a star for every feature you desire. Think about others besides yourself. It's not only about you.

**Developer response:** Thank you very much. I really needed it. And you’re absolutely right. I’m gonna frame your review

### 5/5 — Surprising Results!

*2021-11-22*

This app is great. It’s extremely useful if you use samples for making music and like to keep your stuff organized. Especially if you download files from the internet!

Since installing Sample Crate, I’ve discovered just how messy my downloaded files really are. It seems the various apps I download things with all put them in different and unexpected places of the “On this iPad” folder and my iCloud. Sample Crate has been an interesting view into the weird file management in iOS.

**Developer response:** Thank you. Same here. I've discovered old songs I forgot about

### 5/5 — much needed addition to ios music making

*2021-11-19*

thanks for this alex.
great to see a long time ab forum member
become a music app creator.
for moving created kits into bm3 would the easiest way be to tag and import via files app?

all the best with this.

**Developer response:** Thanks. I usually open up Sample Crate over BM3 in slide over an drag them over one by one. They don't support dragging multiple samples like Koala does

### 5/5 — Finally

*2021-11-11*

If you work with any audio in iOS you know what a pain it is to preview files, move them, or organize them. Sample Create makes Doing theses things all most like you should expect iOS to. There are a few limitations here and there mostly to do with limitations in the iOS files app. One touch preview of any audio file, finally. It’s great how you can build out a crate of samples and export them all out in 1 chained sample. Great for slicing in a sampler. You can tag your samples to help keep things organized. This is a much needed utility and works extremely well.

**Developer response:** Thank you, I really really appreciate the honest review. I'm really glad people find it useful. I've built it because I needed it too.

### 5/5 — Nice and Focused

*2021-11-11*

Really am enjoying the focus and features of this Sample Management tool. The Sample Chain export feature alone is fantastic.

This is a no brainer purchase. Get it today 👊🏼™️💕 if you have tons of sounds you use in your music making.

**Developer response:** Thank you very much. I'm really glad you're enjoying it

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Abandoned app.

*2026-03-04*

Avoid it. On iPad, if you’e in portrait view, you can’t even access your crates. You have to rotate to landscape view in order to see the button. Ridiculous. And since it’s an abandoned app it’ll never get fixed.

### 1/5 — Abandoned app.

*2026-02-26*

Avoid it.

### 3/5 — Amazing features….when they work

*2022-05-19*

Amazing app but unfortunatly theres a bug and when loading my samples it crashes and my saved sample sets no longer have any samples within them. Ay be the way it’s designed but is actually more of a bug. Love you guys

**Developer response:** Thanks. I’m investigating it. If you use the send feedback button, you can send me a few samples to test it out.

### 3/5 — Cool app, but….

*2022-04-25*

Cool app, but is there a way for it to not change all my audio icons in other apps to orange and black?????? I actually deleted it because I really don’t want all my audio icons changed to orange and black, thanks.

**Developer response:** I will make a setting to disable that. Because there are a few people asking for it. THanks for the review!

### 3/5 — Potential....

*2021-11-23*

This is a great start. Basic manual would be helpful.

**Developer response:** It has one on YouTube. But apparently I forgot to link it

Also… it’s a file browser like Files app. I’m assuming everyone knows how to use that

### 4/5 — Would love a duplicate-cleaner function…

*2025-12-18*

If you’re anything like me, your devices are brimming over with a gazillion audio files - samplepacks, field recordings, etc. - and after a while it catches up with you… storage isn’t infinite.

So this is a great tool to get a bird’s eye view, so to speak, and be able to pluck ‘em up like an eagle instead of futzing around through the subfolders you created (or didn’t) trying to recall where you saved it.

@dev - a super useful tool I would love to see would be a duplicate file cleaner like already exists for duplicate photos… tells you where you have two or more identical sounds, which is higher resolution, you get the idea.

Thx!!!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the nice review! I appreciate it!
I'll take your info into account, but I'm not sure at the moment how to tackle the issue

### 4/5 — Tames Sample Profusion!

### 4/5 — App Support?

*2024-01-20*

The is no contact info on the dev site, so I had to post my concerns here. I like the app and enjoy the advantages it provides, however, I do have two issues.

I am struggling with the batch renaming function, which is one of the main reasons I purchased it. After selecting files, I hit “rename” and receive an error message which basically says that the app needs write permission access to the parent folder
I hit “grant access” and I’m taken back to the inside of the folder where the list of samples reappears, but they are now deselected. I hit “open,” type the desired file name and long press “rename.” Nothing happens. I went to settings to confirm that all the permissions available for the app were granted. Same result. It just does not work for me. Any thoughts?

Also, the app replaces the icons for all of my my files that it interacts with. Yes, there is an option to disable this behavior, but it doesn’t return the file icons to their normal state. I deleted the app which did work, but when I reinstall it, all the files that I had previously auditioned return back to the black/orange sample crate icons. I even tried restarting the device. The replacement of icons should be disabled by default and offered as an option, in my opinion . How can I fix my icons?

As I mentioned, I enjoy the app, but would like to see some revisions or at least a workaround for the above issues, especially the batch renaming.

Thanks

**Developer response:** Hi, sorry if you had troubles with the app.
There's a Send Feedback button directly in the app that is linked to my personal email address.

Please use that button so we can get in touch for the renaming bug.

As for the icons, after I introduced the button to disable that "feature", nobody said it doesn't work. Sorry to hear that.
I"m gonna remove the custom icons for good. Apparently nobody likes "dark mode" :D

### 5/5 — Wow

*2025-03-18*

Excellent app glad I found this works falsely

### 5/5 — Wow!

*2024-12-27*

Immensely useful. This app works in an almost similar manner to the Ableton Live Browser (which I love). Auto-Plays samples as well as midi. Tagging is going to be wonderful. I am glad I found this app before starting to catalog my samples/loops etc... Works with cloud storage. Thank you so much for writing this absolutely fabulous program.

**Developer response:** Wow, thanks for the heartwarming review. I'm so glad you like it and find it useful!

### 5/5 — Easier sample management

*2024-01-19*

If you have your own sample packs, this will make it so much easier. “Files” works but if you want to preview a file it goes to a new window and then have to go back to the previous page to drag it. If you don’t remember what it was it’s a pain in the butt. This does it without that issue. Worth it

### 5/5 — Essential iOS app for musicians

*2023-06-01*

Finally an easy way to preview audio with one click. I use it to add samples to Logic Pro (iPad) and it’s so seamless it seems like a native feature. Seriously, this is a life saver and time saver.

### 5/5 — You need this

*2023-02-13*

If you do any audio work on the iOS platform, this is an app you need. I put it right up there with AudioShare and Audiobus (along with a plethora of of apps I always suggest to people who are branching out to make music on their iOS devices) but this is a needed app. It is just as important to me as Apple implementing the file system. The ability to access my files in a cohesive way and also organize them is fantastic.
It seems like such a basic concept, but Apple is always late to the game when it comes to audio on iOS. It always takes a brilliant and small developer to come up with simple solutions that we all take for granted. As someone who has been making music on their iOS devices since 2011 I can tell you how nice it is to not have to jump through hoops like we had to just evil six or seven years ago. I also beta test many apps and have been beta testing for over 10 years so I see a lot of crappy audio apps that just want money and it is so nice and refreshing with a small developer comes around and makes a game changing app that is not price gouging us. This app is so affordable. I feel like I’m cheating the developer. It’s always updated and does far more than we all think it does. Midi preview, video to audio, and other little gems are a great thing to have especially when you have hundreds or even thousands of samples to deal with.
I don’t know how anyone could give this app under five stars just because they can’t change the icon color. It is a real shame that we ask so much of certain apps without understanding just how hard and time-consuming they are to make.
Thank goodness this developer has made such a crucial and needed app that in my humble opinion, will go on as one of the apps that has helped iOS audio into main stream production.
I am in no way affiliated with this app. I’m just a huge fan and a a satisfied customer.
To the developer. Thank you for making this app. You have saved me hours of endless headaches.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much! I really appreciate you for taking the time to write this. This is what drives us small developers to get better.

Also I'm super glad you find it as useful as I do!

### 5/5 — MIDI file preview! Hooray!

*2023-01-21*

Thank you so much for adding this function. As iOS midi generators continue to improve, it’s so good to be able to preview ever growing MIDI file collections without having to generate matching audio files to reference. Hoping you can add MIDI crates to the app as well.

### 5/5 — Superb tool for IOS music makers

*2022-12-31, version 1.1.1*

If you use samples, or just need to keep track of your files in dedicated app, then this is the very fellow. Easy to use, efficient, nice looking and crucially, continuing to evolve. All at a very reasonable price. Once you’ve started using the Sample Crate, you’ll wonder how you ever got along without it.

### 5/5 — Perfect except one flaw

*2022-07-24*

This app fills an absolutely invaluable niche by allowing me to test out samples and organize them for my SP-404 for example. So far my only gripe is then when testing out the samples in the “sample crate” there is too much latency when tapping the pads to be able be very musical with it. Granted, I wouldn’t use it to perform music and only to test the sounds out so it’s not the end of the world but it is something that could improve the app.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your nice review.
Yes, it has a bit of latency but it's not built to be a fingerdrumming app unfortunately :)

There are far better options for that which I love too.

### 5/5 — Great addition to the toolkit

*2022-03-31*

I wasn’t sure whether I needed samplecrate given a few overlapping features with AudioShare. Samplecrate does a number of things currently not possible in AudioShare—it can do bulk file renaming, and it can do bulk drag and drop export to apps like Koala. These are huge workflow improvements. The dev is very active on the Audiobus forum so the app is well supported. Crazy value for $2.99 USD

### 5/5 — very glad I downloaded however a few more things would,

*2022-03-26*

benefit so immensely it might even begin to rival AudioShare:

1. Its a pain to toggle a sample to loop the way it is now, if there was a way to loop it in a single click or swipe, like, you hold the pad and drag it up then let go, the pad falls back into place but it is now looping. tap, hold, drag up and let go again and it stops looping. something like that or even just a button under each pad

2. If there was an option to export samples separately, unchained. And if not, add a good 5+ seconds between each sample so when we go to chop it back up its easier. often i will have samples of similar volume and audio wave shape and it looks like one sample. so i chop it out, and then after Ive chopped them all im like, wait... wheres THAT sample? and i go back and yepp, it was RIGHT after the sample that was similar in wave length and shape, i could not tell where the samples started and ended without zooming WAY in and then its just an annoyance.

3. I read in the desc. something about dragging samples into koala? Im glad that you must have made it easier. im about to try it, but if you could somehow get each sample to apply to the next empty pad in the iOS app youre dragging and dropping into, that would be a game changer. seriously. or even just one at a time. again, im about to go check it out but i really hope its not like, you can now drag the entire sample chain into one koala pad then you gotta split it all up..

either way, AWESOME app. helps so much when low on inspiration or creative block... dont stop improving it!!! thank you for this app and for reading my feedback :)

**Developer response:** Thank you very much. You can export samples individually of course. Tap the export button and there are two options.
