So there’s no way to verify the filter you bought directly from Samsung is legit or not. Useless app. Don’t waste your time on it. ### 1/5 — Won’t scan. *2026-08-22, version 1.1.2* Absolute garbage. Stupid to force people to scan something to find out how to install the stupid water filter purchased on Samsung directly. Total garbage and useless!!! Update: Was able to scan if manually zoom in iPhone camera. However, the app doesn’t actually do anything besides tell you whether filter is authentic or not and steal your data. From the packaging, it seemed like the app would give you installation instructions. So, I find the whole thing misleading, useless, and a scam to steal your data. Separately, the water using this filter tastes like garbage (tastes like unfiltered tap water). The QR code will not scan which I guess means in have a counterfeit filter. But it says if the QR code won’t scan report the counterfeit using the “report button” there’s no report button. I’m guessing the app is the problem but the filter is fine? How would anyone know. I just wasted an hour. This review took 2 minutes and was worth the vent. This is so stupid. ### 1/5 — Terrible but worked *2026-08-04, version 1.1.2* After attempting to scan it a dozen times, I finally got it to work just as it timed out since there is a time limit for each scan. What I found is that you have to make sure you are scanning the proper direction (rotate like the examples) BUT I then had to hold it too close to get it focus and then slowly back away to fit within the yellow box and try to hold it steady for as long as possible before the timer ends forcing you to have to do it all over again. I’ve only been able to do it once so far. It’s not easy. An update is seriously needed. Nice try with being more environmentally friendly by removing the magnet strip and updating packaging but this app isn’t ready yet for flawless customer usage. I was so close to giving up and doing what it says, to report the item as counterfeit but then it actually scanned and authenticated the filter. Please, please, fix these issues. App not developed by Samsung, and doesn’t allow reporting of counterfeit filters despite directing the user to press the “Report” button. There is only one screen in the app, and no “Report” button exists. App requires user to enable location services to scan a simple 2d barcode, which is unnecessary data extraction. I’m just going to go to Amazon and buy an off brand. ## Most praised reviews (5 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — For those wondering, yes this is Genuine *2026-08-02, version 1.1.2* It is strange that Samsung would have a developer create a separate app that is published by a company not affiliated with Samsung? Why not incorporate the genuine authentication through the same app we use to connect to the fridge? Anyways, for those wondering if these filters are fakes, especially if you bought them from Amazon like I did, they are real if your QR scan isn’t a higher than 1. If it’s high, it means it has been scanned more than once, meaning it’s been duplicated. Anyways, yes the app sucks, it took multiple tries to get a successful scan. You have to move the phone further away to get a clear view of the QR code then pinch to zoom in so the QR code is big enough to fill the box. Reports from ordering them from Samsung’s very own website also gives the same brown box with gray labeling (which is shown on Samsung’s website now, no more blue labeling). ### 5/5 — Worked as expected *2026-01-16* I was able to scan my filter and it worked perfectly first try! ### 4/5 — it's works fine *2026-08-19, version 1.1.2* Just be patient when using it. You have to PINCH TO ZOOM otherwise you cannot align the template with the QR code without it not focusing. It's a bit annoying that you have to be so precise when scanning it.
