## What is Sanctuary Alert?

Sanctuary is a personal-safety app. When you feel unsafe, one tap alerts the people you trust, starts recording, and gives you plain-language guidance on your rights.

FEEL UNSAFE? ONE TAP.
The "I Feel Unsafe" button instantly notifies your emergency contacts with your location, and can begin recording at the same time. Choose the alert that fits the moment, from a check-in to an emergency. Emergency alerts are free for everyone, always.

DOCUMENT WHAT HAPPENS
Record video or audio of an incident. Every recording is hash-chained with SHA-256, so you can show it has not been altered since you saved it. Your data is encrypted on your device, and you decide what to keep and what to share. Cloud backup is included free with 2 GB of storage.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
Twelve plain-language guides to your legal rights in everyday situations: at your door, at a traffic stop, at work, at a protest, while recording, and more. Each one cites its sources, including Supreme Court cases and named statutes. Available in English and Spanish. This is educational information, not legal advice.

CHECK-IN TIMER
Turn on the check-in timer and it arms itself whenever you send an alert. If you do not check in before it runs out, your contacts are notified automatically, with your last location and your recording if you made one. Off by default.

PLAN AHEAD
Build a private safety plan, keep important information in an encrypted vault, and set up the people you would want notified before you need them.

TRAVEL WITH BACKUP
Share a trip with a trusted contact so someone knows your route and can check that you arrived.

COMMUNITY ALERTS - REQUIRES SANCTUARY PROTECTOR, OPT-IN
With a Protector subscription you can choose to be notified when someone within about five miles needs help, and let your community know when you do. They are opt-in and off by default. Senders appear as an auto-generated pseudonym, never a real name, and sending one shares your location with nearby members who have opted in.

INCIDENT REPORTS - REQUIRES SANCTUARY PROTECTOR
Write down what happened while it is still fresh: what you saw, vehicle details, license plates, and a photo or video. Reports are saved encrypted on your device as a private log only you can read. Nothing is submitted to us, to law enforcement, or to other users.

APP LOCK - REQUIRES SANCTUARY PROTECTOR
Put a passphrase in front of the whole app, on top of your phone's own lock, so no one else can open Sanctuary even if they can open your phone. You can turn it off yourself at any time, and it is never removed if your subscription ends.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No ads and no third-party trackers. We never sell your data. Your safety plan and your evidence are encrypted on your device.

NOT AN EMERGENCY SERVICE
Sanctuary notifies the people you choose. It does not contact 911 or any emergency dispatcher, and it cannot guarantee your safety. In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number.

SANCTUARY PROTECTOR - OPTIONAL SUBSCRIPTION
Sanctuary's core safety features are free forever: emergency alerts, evidence recording with 2 GB of cloud storage, the rights guides, the safety plan, the check-in timer, and Travel Buddy. Sanctuary Protector costs $4.99 per month or $39.99 per year and adds four things: community alerts, incident reports, App Lock, and 25 GB of cloud storage instead of 2 GB. Emergency alerts are never part of the subscription.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.0.3 — 2026-08-26

This update brings back contact import and fixes a sign-in problem after a password reset.

CONTACT IMPORT WORKS AGAIN
Adding emergency contacts from your phone's address book is now working again.

SIGNING IN AFTER A PASSWORD RESET
Resetting your password now keeps everything working.

WHAT SANCTUARY PROTECTOR INCLUDES
These features now require a Sanctuary Protector subscription:
- Community alerts — sending to, and receiving from, nearby members
- Incident reports and your report log
- Turning on App Lock
- 25 GB of encrypted evidence storage, up from 2 GB

If App Lock is already turned on, you keep it. A subscription is never needed to keep a lock you already set, and turning App Lock off is never blocked.

Emergency alerts to your contacts stay free, and always will. So do evidence recording, your safety plan, Know Your Rights, the check-in timer, and Travel Buddy.

ALSO IN THIS UPDATE
- The subscription screen always offers Restore Purchases.
- Smaller reliability fixes throughout the app.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-08-23

YOUR EVIDENCE STAYS UNTIL YOU DELETE IT
Recordings, photos, and location trails are no longer removed on a schedule.
They stay until you remove them yourself. Settings shows exactly how much
storage you are using: 2 GB free, or 25 GB with Sanctuary Protector. Sharing
evidence with a contact no longer starts a deletion clock on it either.

A CRASH IS FIXED
Sanctuary could quit unexpectedly when it woke up in the background after your
location changed. That is fixed.

GETTING BACK INTO YOUR ACCOUNT
Add a recovery email in Settings. Password reset emails now send reliably, and
if a code cannot be delivered, the app tells you instead of failing quietly.

ONE CHECK-IN TIMER, ON OR OFF
The check-in timer is now a single setting. Turn it on once and it arms itself
every time you send an alert. If you do not check in before it runs out, your
emergency contacts are notified with your last location and your recording.

SPANISH
Emergency notifications are now delivered in Spanish for Spanish-language
users. This update also fixes counts throughout the app — anything the app
tallies for you now reads correctly in both English and Spanish.

ALSO
- App Lock re-locks when you return to Sanctuary from the background.
- Our privacy policy is published at empoweredsanctuary.com/privacy in English
  and Spanish.
- Many smaller accuracy and reliability fixes.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-08-22

This update fixes a crash and makes your evidence, your account, and your check-ins more dependable.

FIXED A CRASH
Sanctuary could quit unexpectedly when it woke up in the background after your location changed. That is fixed. If the app has ever closed on you on its own, this is the reason.

YOUR EVIDENCE STAYS UNTIL YOU DELETE IT
Recordings, photos, and location trails are no longer removed on a timer. A situation can take months or years to resolve, so your evidence now stays until you choose to delete it. Settings shows how much storage you are using: 2 GB free, or 25 GB with Sanctuary Protector.

ACCOUNT RECOVERY THAT WORKS
You can add a recovery email in Settings, password reset emails now send reliably, and if a code cannot be delivered the app tells you instead of quietly failing.

CHECK-IN TIMER, SIMPLIFIED
The check-in timer is now a single setting. Turn it on once and it arms itself whenever you send an alert. If you do not check in before it runs out, your emergency contacts are notified with your last location and your recording.

SPANISH NOTIFICATIONS
Emergency notifications are now delivered in Spanish for Spanish-language users.

ALSO IN THIS UPDATE
- App Lock re-locks when you return to Sanctuary from the background.
- Sharing evidence with a contact no longer puts a deletion clock on it.
- Our privacy policy and in-app legal text now describe exactly what the app stores, for how long, and what deleting your account removes. It is published at empoweredsanctuary.com/privacy in English and Spanish.
- Many smaller accuracy and reliability fixes throughout the app.

Every bullet is traced to a commit in the doc. Worth knowing: most of this already reached iOS users via OTA (2.0.89→2.0.91), so existing users have had it for weeks. The genuinely new native item is the crash fix. That's fine — What's New describes the release relative to store version 1.0.

If you'd rather not say "our policy used to be wrong" in marketing copy, swap the last-but-one bullet for: "Our privacy policy is now published at empoweredsanctuary.com/privacy in English and Spanish."
