### 3/5 — Locked out

*2022-05-02, version 3.0.6502.180*

This app could be helpful, but unfortunately almost all content is locked behind a subscription paywall. The few free sessions, all of which were under 5 minutes in length, are exceedingly difficult to find. There appears to be 10 free sessions in the entire app, total. There are certain aspects of this app that are useful for a non-subscription solo venture, such as the journaling and social/user chat sections. But if you’re looking for in-depth guidance, expect to pay. I will give credit where credit is due: if there is a particular series you like or strikes your interest, it appears that you can buy it outright instead of solely the subscription model. (For example, there is a $9.99 buy button for a 7-session mindfulness course. This course totals about 45 mins in length.) I like the concept of this app but can’t afford to give indefinite money; I will be looking elsewhere.

### 3/5 — You Have to Pay For Almost Everything

*2021-03-09, version 3.0.6502.180*

I would have given this app 5 stars, because the things the app has provided that are cost free are really nice, but the problem is, there are almost no free meditations or anything of the sort. If less things were for premium only (which I cannot pay) then this app would get five stars from me. I understand the creators have the premium in place for a reason, and I knew that this app would have in-app purchases, but I did not think that I would only be able to see almost no content for free.

### 3/5 — I like it but disappointed in the lack of content

*2020-08-08, version 3.0.6422.179*

I accidentally paid for the year subscription but decided I would stick with it because I enjoyed some of the sessions and the sleep guides (though I wish they were all longer). I understand with covid it’s not necessarily the easy task but I feel as though I’m the amount of time I’ve been on the app not much has been added. I noticed one addition. Especially with the bedtime tales, I would like to see following chapters of the books. I love the concept and the girl power and the lessons being taught but there are also many things that don’t apply to me and I’ve listened to the ones that do already. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add more stuff I would love to continue use of this app due to the messages it’s getting out there and the help it can bring to women.

### 5/5 — Honest review

*2020-02-07, version 3.0.5955.154*

The Sanity&Self is such a great app!
I would highly recommend it to any anybody that is going through something, or is just curious and has been slightly interested in seeking self love in all aspects of life. I have been an active listener for quite a while now and I have to say it has helped me through a lot. The down side is that you have to manually go to the next session. Also we need more topics. All in all the app gets a thumbs up from this listener.

### 3/5 — A lot is missing

*2020-01-30, version 3.0.5920.153*

I’m not sure who will see this in the sea of reviews. Most of which are 5 star reviews. For me this is not a 5 star app. It’s a 5 star concept. I’ve had it for a month—like other women I wanted to start the New Year “getting back on track”. I thought this was a great app to do that. I quickly got board. And the content that didn’t bore me was over with after 2 mins. I just wish it had more. More important I wish it would update the content regularly. I’ve been waiting for new bedtime stores for weeks. Where’s the rest of the chapters to Little Women and Alice in Wonder. Once you finish a session (which is usually only 2 mins for 5 days) then what? It takes more than 10 mins a week to learn to love yourself, to learn to accept yourself, to not get stressed out. WE NEED MORE. Also. I’m 32– I know this is for women but I feel like some of the content is for younger women. I don’t need to learn to touch myself. I don’t need to learn how to play mind games to make men interested in me. And I don’t need to learn to say the F word. It’s already my favorite word and I’m content with canceling my subscription. I won’t miss it. I really hope they can update their and add more content regularly. I really wanted to love this app. If anyone needs me I’ll be going to Calm (which is also cheaper) you MOREEEEE bang for your buck.

### 4/5 — Definitely Targets a Specific Demographic

*2020-01-08, version 2.0.5827.150*

I actually loved a lot of this content, but as a newly divorced, single mom in my 40s, I felt very much like the target demographic was a good 10-20 years younger than me who are single and childless. There is nothing at all wrong with that, and I wish I had had this as a young woman. As a woman who is more mature and has worked a lot on personal growth, though, I wanted to feel seen, first of all, and I wanted more than a few sound bite takeaways from each session. Again, the content here for an app of this kind is pretty great. We just need something like it for those of us who want to dig deeper and aren’t as charmed by “Yassss” and vocal fry.

### 4/5 — Love it

*2020-01-06, version 2.0.5827.150*

I LOVE this app and literally just downloaded it and listened to a couple things. $60 a YEAR is nothing. With a 7 day trial so you can decide before buying. This is something that can truly HELP you but you will be quick to spend money on going out to eat, alcohol, cigarettes just in a week or two. I can’t afford it either BUT my mental health is important enough I can sacrifice something I know I would want to spend money on that I shouldn’t anyways, so why not. I’m going through a really hard period in my life and can already tell that this app will be the ONE. And I’m usually skeptical about self help apps. There’s

### 3/5 — Very specific target audience

*2019-12-15, version 2.0.5751.145*

This app is almost exclusively for women between 18-29 yo. Legally, users need to be at least 18, and then women older than 29 will find very little content to keep them invested in this app. In many ways, this app reinforces certain stereotypes such as women are only interested in learning more about relationships, romance & friendship. Nothing about managing finances or how to handle being a woman in a male dominated field. So, if you fall into that narrow demographic, it’s GREAT!! For those of us who were hoping for more out of a female-driven app there will be some gems here, but mostly just disappointment.

### 5/5 — Grateful to have found this!

*2019-12-02, version 2.0.5702.144*

This app as so much useful content.
If you are interested In self development and building your boundaries without feeling guilty. I recommend this app. I have looked for apps to help me and I believe this one is worth it. I do wish it was acceptable to all girls especially teens who can’t afford to pay for apps. Like I said it worth it if you can. $5 a month is as much as a burger you would buy and finish is 10 minutes. This will help you understand yourself and that will last you a life time. Learning and applying this to your life are to different things. Apply it to yourself and if you cannot maybe you feel you don’t deserve to, but you do. This app will help you see that for yourself. I listen to it in the morning or before bed. When I can actively listen to it. I share it because I feel it will help people as much as it has helped me. 🌻

### 5/5 — Update: Better than I thought it would be

*2019-11-30, version 2.0.5702.144*

I pay because it IS worth the money. My favorite speakers are Diane Mandell and Melanie Dewberry. Both have great insight to offer. I feel like they are genuine with their intentions to help women become better versions of themselves.

There are so many self- help apps that I have downloaded just to ignore the recommendations and activities. Many of them seemed appealing by their description but in the end just didn’t keep me engaged. This one is unlike any other. There are courses that are more than just the typical “self- love” and ‘take a moment to breathe” apps. The courses target real issues and provide tools to address how these issues affect our lives. The only issue I have is that it advertises as an app specifically for women. There are several modules that could apply to anyone.

### 5/5 — Absolutely worth it.

*2019-11-10, version 2.0.5642.142*

This app has been a God-send. I've listened daily for about two months. Yes, you have to pay to get full access. When I downloaded the app, it was a $60 subscription fee for the year.
For the YEAR.
I admit. I sort of cringed. But then I got to thinking.
That's as much as some gyms charge per MONTH. That's probably even less than what you spend in a shopping trip with friends.
And your mental health is worth it. MY mental health was worth it. These sessions really pulled me out of a deep rut that I had been in for a few months. I'm learning new ways of thinking that I can implement every day to help me regain ME. And I do. I'm learning that I'm not as alone as I thought I was. I'm getting encouragement and coping strategies from people who GET it.
*I've only done the listening/journaling sessions the app has to offer, and haven't yet tried the one on one chat. But I can tell a lot of work went into this app, and I'm betting that service would be pretty helpful too.
I haven't regretted this purchase for a single moment.

### 5/5 — If you are going through a breakup, YOU MUST GET THIS IF YOU WANT, to heal.

*2019-10-18, version 2.0.5605.140*

I’m honestly blown away. The reminders that you can set for yourself. This a must have. It’s one thing to talk to someone about what your going through, but to get the help that you really need, to help guide you through this extremely heartbreaking, life altering time in your life. Please give this a shot, it’s free for 7 days, can’t beat that. You’re healing process, and moving forward is important. Invest in yourself. You deserve to be happy and whole.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Love the app but customer service is slow/unresponsive

*2023-02-03, version 3.0.6502.180*

I have used this app for over a year and loved it so much. I was logged out of the app & tried to reset my password. The link they send in the email does not work, it just says “this site can’t be reached”. The “sign in with Facebook” option also does not work. So I’ve got another few months on my subscription, which I’m unable to access. I reached out to customer service via email since that’s the only option and have not received any help that way either. Love the app but would not recommend for this reason alone. No point in having it if you can’t log in.

### 1/5 — Be careful

*2021-09-06, version 3.0.6502.180*

I subscribed to the coaching. They charged my card for two months at 177 dollars a month. I have not received one text from their coaches. Even though it is supposed to be 24/7. I will reiterate… I have not even received ONE text or reply and have paid 350 over the course of two months. Customer service is none existent and when they do get back via email they keep asking the same questions such as “why do you want to cancel?” even though I’ve given the answer in my emails. They will avoid acknowledging and reimbursing you. This is supposed to help your mental health and it is capitalizing off it and has caused me a lot of stress and cost me a lot of money. Be careful.

### 1/5 — Terrible Service, Unfair

*2020-12-28, version 3.0.6502.180*

i had this app for a long time, and when i first got it i used it a lot! i loved it! but i stopped using it and recently within the past few months tried to go on again. i had issues with my account, am not allowed to post for some reason, and i’ve tried to contact customer support. TWICE. they said they would get back to me within the week and it’s been over a month now since with first request. a couple weeks from my second. i’m infuriated. and disappointed. i had a few simple questions and want to know why i am not allowed to post and everyone else is yet have heard nothing and i’m very upset. it’s a shame.

### 1/5 — Great Concept Poor Execution

*2020-11-13, version 3.0.6502.180*

The content titles are interesting. Yet, the quality is subpar especially with the price tag attached with the app. I was mislead by the variety of content as opposed to the Shine App which I have been using for years thinking the more the better. In contrast though, the speakers talk too fast and I found myself having to replay the same piece over and over again. That is frustrating. Also, I am a psychologist in training and the “advice” they gave was not helpful. The Shine App gently guides you to your own values this app I felt forced certain values.

I am glad that it helped others, but it is not for me. It stressed me out more. I asked for a refund for my yearly purchase. If the content was better quality I would buy again, but until then it’s a no from me.

### 1/5 — Not my thing

*2020-06-25, version 3.0.6422.179*

I delved in during the trial period and was thankful for there being one.

Minor things:

No night mode. The time I have for quiet and reflection is night. The design is bright. You can flip your phone over or turn off the screen but this would be a minor change that people will enjoy.

Music. I hope that was free music because it's just awful. It's the same phrase over and over. I have usedany meditation apps and this choice boggles my mind. Ifd never have expected soft, background music to be distracting.

Difficult to see text. The background is bright but the text isn't contrasted well & it's small. I get some people won't have a problem but this could easily be fixed by allowing a few options or even dimming the background-again.

Major:

Content. There's a lot of content. Cool. The content-proper is not for me. I have a background in psychology and I work as a parole officer. Cognitive-Behavioral is my preferred approach. The approach here is basically too sidling, too ephemeral. In the who speech, the same explication of a situation and examples could be done in 5-10 minutes. My takeaway if the 'point' & the action step from these could be delivered more succinctly.

I have had years of therapy & work as a civil servant. I currently have a therapist, as all therapists and counsors should. All of this to say that I really do have experience with getting and giving counsel. The concept of the app is good. My experience with it shows that it's not for me.

### 1/5 — Worst tease ever.

*2020-06-08, version 3.0.6402.178*

It’s great for the people its actually aimed for. And that wouldn’t be the broken, heart broken, or defeated. If u went threw a breakup and were left with nothing then don’t even bother downloading it. It’s only meant for the rich considering EVERY SING video and daily spread and everything els. And I mean EVERYTHING els costs at least $2. Well spending that for every video. Then doing it everyday or spending the $15 a month witch is more than I pay for tv a month. Why the hell would I spend that kind of money on an APP that I use once a day for 10 mins??? You could still give it a try, I did. And within 40 seconds I realized I can do nothing more than stare at it wishing I could use it because I could have really used the help. But no she doesn’t want to help people she just wants to make bank. Clearly.

### 1/5 — Not very helpful for me

*2019-07-26, version 2.0.5304.125*

This seems to share a lot of good communication tips one might accumulate after years of therapy. If you’re just getting started in your wellness journey that’s probably much more helpful. In that way I’m not the target audience. Also it’s DEFINITELY made for straight girls, oftentimes saying “your man” instead of “partner” and telling the listeners how inept “your man” is. Some of the time they seem to fall back on pretty sexist standards that were common place in couples counseling in the 60’s (men are from Mars style “husbands are so dumb we have to talk down to them” style of communication). My last gripe is the majority of the content seems aimed at our relationships with other people, which is good indeed, but this app was billed as a self care experience not couples counseling. I myself am more than my relationships to others and it doesn’t seems to promote that line of thought.

### 1/5 — Only if you plan on buying the membership.

*2019-01-15, version 2.0.4552.90*

I was really excited about using the app and the possibilities it offered for meditation and self reflection, however shortly after downloading it I realized you have to buy to membership to use any of the app at all. As a grad student I don’t have $60 a year to spend on something like this so I wasn’t looking for a premium version. I thought I’d at least get a handful of meditations and self-care guidances for free and the rest of the app with purchase of a membership, but sadly no. One short introduction to the app and how it works is all you’ll get for free. Disappointing to say the least. Don’t download unless you intend to spend the money to buy a membership.

### 2/5 — Issues with my paid account- always prompted to add premium.

*2022-07-06, version 3.0.6502.180*

I’ve had ongoing issues with keeping my account as the paid version versus the free version. I’ve had this app a long time and have paid for it for a few years now. The problem is if I do not continue to use it for awhile and then try to go back into the app for some reason I am always prompted for the free day trial and to upgrade to premium when I am already premium. Not sure if others are having this same issue or if it’s an apple app issue. But usually when I need this app the most is when I log into it after awhile and can not get into the things I need to utilize the most like journaling or the variety of sounds or mediations. It’s so sad because this is genuinely an amazing app for great content.

### 2/5 — Mostly disappointing but slightly insightful content

*2020-02-26, version 3.0.6009.156*

I downloaded the app because I saw an advertisement for it on Instagram, and thought why not. When I opened the app, I was initially skeptical because of immense focus on just empowering women, which is a good concept. However, the execution of the app creates an exclusionary environment because not everyone feels supported, which is not fair especially since majority of the content is general information for all people.
Another issue I have with the app is that after only one sample audio a pop up comes up that requires you to sign up for a free 7 day trial or pay an outrageous amount for premium. It’s disappointing and quite ironic that in our corrupt society there is an entire market created out of coping with the society itself. Thus, creating an endless cycle of superficial values that take advantage of and sanitize the real horrors of living in a world full of systems that reduce and commodify human life. For example, many people can not afford the overpriced amount for premium does that mean they don’t desire happiness? Absolutely not! There are many free ways to cope with problems like reading articles online or listening to music or talking to friends, thus proving the app does not uniquely fix any issues and is quite unnecessary. Therefore, the only reason for its existence is to exploit stressed out people.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I ❤️ this app but, I seriously didn’t think I would!!

*2022-03-06, version 3.0.6502.180*

This app totally surprised me with how much I love it, how not-cheesy it is and the focus being on women, ALL WOMEN. I thought “Ok, I’ll use it maybe for part of the free trial but not all” and that turned into “I love this, let’s sign up now!” From opening the app and seeing “You’re home, take off your bra” then seeing all the different areas of anxiety, self doubt, depression, abusive or toxic relationships and seeing areas geared towards queer, bisexual women or women of color, then fitness, weight, sleep, relaxation, meditation. This app blew my mind. Then you can journal, chat with experts. This is amazing. And when my membership needs to be renewed in a couple more months, it’s will have my 2nd year starting up. Gold star ⭐️🥇👍

### 5/5 — Thank You

*2021-08-11, version 3.0.6502.180*

This app is changing my entire life. I can not tell you how grateful I am that this exists. The pandemic has been such a struggle, but everything I’m learning from this app is giving me tools, I didn’t even know I needed or existed, to overcome my personal struggles. I’ve changed my entire lifestyle with the help of this app. This app is helping me figure how to put in the work to change my life. I’ve been sober for a year, lost 60 lbs, ended a 6 year relationship, I’m finding my independence my authentic self because of Sanity&Self. If you’re not living the life you want too, and are ready for personal growth, THIS.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2021-01-18, version 3.0.6502.180*

This app, aside from my in-person therapy, had been THE best thing for my personal growth journey. Through this I gained the courage to really take control of my life, relationships, and situations I was consistently finding myself in. The women on this app are phenomenal speakers and there is a beautiful sense of solidarity you get from each of them as they share bits of their personal lives as well. It helps you see that you are not alone. I would give this app a million stars if I could. If you are on a journey to self-discovery, self-love, and personal growth, get this app!!!!

### 5/5 — I Feel Better About Myself

*2020-08-20, version 3.0.6502.180*

I did not think that this app would help me with my self-esteem. But I tried the 7-day trail and had to purchase the annual membership. I use it daily! I highly recommend first listening to give less f##ks workshop. That was the starting point that I needed. You will not be disappointed.

Minor complaint! I wish that the workshops had a “play all” button and stop asking to rate or share the workshop before I can exit to go to the next step.

### 5/5 — Worth every penny!!!

*2020-08-10, version 3.0.6422.179*

The content on this app is spot on.I subscribed for a year and the cost of that is a fraction of what I would spend on one therapy session! What I love most is the different series of talks. Right now I’m going through the ones on self worth, and then journaling. The content is not pedestrian or condescending… It’s real, intelligent and challenging.I want to thank the creators of this app for taking the time to find high quality and diverse contributors, and for designing the app so thoughtfully. Exactly what I’m needing.

Side note: I wanted to recommend the app to a good friend who just lost her husband but I see there aren’t any series on dealing with death. Please consider adding this. Thank you!!

### 5/5 — I love this app

*2020-07-21, version 3.0.6422.179*

I decided to do the one year package and I use this almost every single day and now I’m using the sounds every single night to go to sleep to talk to a therapist to her three times and yes I did pay the $100 fee to me it’s been worth it because I have gone to real therapist and on this app you have so many things in one the tools that you actually need her here I would recommend this to anybody who is looking for change a mental change and an emotional change in their life so this app is a very great tour you can do voice messages you can type them out the sessions the voice sessions that they provide are so amazing and they feel so personal 10/10

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2020-07-01, version 3.0.6422.179*

As I’ve reached my mid 30s I’ve notice a lot of changes mentally and physically. Feeling down all the time, over thinking, and stressing myself to a point of losing myself and not knowing where to begin or how to get myself and a new me back. I have only just downloaded this app just a few hours ago and listened to some audios and already I feel like I have finally made a start in a new direction to find happiness again. From the bottom of my heart thank you❤️

### 5/5 — Yes!!!

*2020-05-17, version 3.0.6340.174*

I paid for the full one year membership which is a lot for me. I hesitated to do it buts its so worth it. But you have to actually use it and follow the programs/talks. They are relaxed and sympathetic of our issues as women. Most of my issues are dating and self esteem but they even go into more details. Not just self esteem but self esteem for single women. If you have an issue they have a talk about it. It’s such a simple app. You can even pause the talk switch over to the journal page and make some notes for later then switch back to the talk. I’m really happy I paid for this app.

### 5/5 — Best self-help I have ever experienced

*2020-03-21, version 3.0.6104.162*

I’m 20 and I’ve never been seen a therapist or councilor past third grade. However that does not imply that I never needed one. When I came across this app I was wowed by the diversity of thought and the types of struggles they offered to help with. I learned things about myself through this app that I never knew. This is more than an app, it’s a community of Women whom want to better ourselves and our lives, and counselors that are here to help us do just that. They even have a community chat and a personal journal. I recommend this to all women regardless of where you are in life. 🌼

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2020-03-01, version 3.0.6034.157*

The premium is super affordable and worth every cent. I used to have very low self esteem, and I got pushed around. I tried so hard to excel at everything to prove my worth. This app really helped me realize I’m just as good as everyone else, and made me realize I don’t need to prove my worth. Every morning my thought pattern went like this “I’m so ugly, I’ll never be even close to being as good as everyone else,” but now I wake up thinking “I’m beautiful, and amazing just the way I am ,and so is everyone else,” getting out of that negative thought pattern was what truly cured me of my anxiety. This app is truly amazing.
