### 3/5 — Can’t log in on website!

*2025-12-07, version 5.0.21*

This would be a higher rating if I could use the website. It says my credentials are invalid, when I know they’re not. Whatever. Using the app because the last one lost all my stuff! Fix the website issue or just make a downloadable computer app that lets you log in with the same credentials you use in this app!

### 4/5 — Small issue

*2025-11-01, version 5.0.21*

Hi, I’m here to say this app is great, but when it is used in window form, you can’t select a beat and it’s stuck. Annoys me to no end, but otherwise great.

### 2/5 — Issue

*2023-10-11, version 5.0.10*

The app is e excellent , but mi creativity grow in Spanish can you make this app with a configuration In Spanish please and thank sorry for bothering

### 2/5 — Buggy and difficult to use

*2023-05-23, version 5.0.8*

I tried this because the final draft app straight up didn’t work. This crashes a lot every 10-15 minutes, the interface is clunky, items that are in the tutorials are not there for formatting. It’s not very good, glad i only got there monthly sub, and i can cancel

### 4/5 — Monthly Subscription Option?

*2023-04-05, version 5.0.6*

Why no monthly subscription option or trail period to test drive the app?

### 4/5 — OK so far; needs a minor QoL update

*2022-12-14, version 5.0.3*

Really enjoying and appreciating this app so far, as I'm a total newb to screenwriting. I'd love to be able to increase the font size so that I can actually see what I'm typing, though! Please consider!

### 3/5 — Excellent for Structural Foundation, But There Are a Few Concerns

*2022-02-04, version 4.1.2*

While I love this app, as it makes outlining a breeze, I am confused to why there are less than 40 beat/scene cards on the Blake Snyder Save the Cat Board template. The book heavily suggests writing 40 cards. I know I can add cards wherever, but I find this part a bit confusing. It makes me concerned about the Board feature.

Also, I really wish there was a printable option. It would be so nice to finish the Beat Sheet or Board and physically print the outlines to work from.

### 3/5 — Genres gone

*2021-10-03, version 4.1.1*

Got rid of the genre descriptions in the genre selection. Previous version had a snapshot of the thumbnail rules of any given genre

### 2/5 — Crashes

*2021-09-14, version 4.1.1*

Unable to upload attachments. Continues to crash.

### 1/5 — Everything costs

*2021-04-22, version 4.0.13*

Would be nice if you buy the book to have access to the app, rather then shelling out even more money.

### 1/5 — Deleted HOURS of Work!

*2021-03-23, version 4.0.11*

My initial impression of the app was favorable ... until I returned to my current project to continue working through its beats. Then I realized that my most previous effort — a solid couple of hours of work — was simply gone. Poof! Thin air, folks. Will be demanding a refund and seeking an alternative app. Be careful with this one!

### 3/5 — Misleading

*2021-02-10, version 4.0.11*

I had an older version of Save the Cat on my iPad. I thought I would take the plunge and get the full version for a not cheap £28. The app was buggy and kept crashing and was looking dated. I then saw there is a new version on the App Store so downloaded that, only to again be asked for £20 to upgrade. Why wasn’t the old version of the app linked? Do I really need to pay again?

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — nearly everything is behind a paywall.

*2025-01-22, version 5.0.16*

i get why the subscription is there since the creators have to be paid but having like 70% of the app completely unusable unless you pay $3-40 is kinda crazy.

### 1/5 — App keeps crashing

*2024-02-12, version 5.0.11*

Every time I try to open the "Board" the app crashes. I'd like a refund.

### 1/5 — Why does it require personal info?

*2023-11-24*

Most likely a scam used to collect and sell private and personal data. Do not give them any info

### 1/5 — Is there a legitimate reason for no Core i3 support?

*2023-11-09, version 5.0.10*

I write on the go, so my goal was to sync my work on my mobile with my MacBook. But unfortunately ‘STC’ is unable accomplish what Final Draft does just fine. Had I known beforehand I won’t have purchased. That’s a shame.

### 1/5 — Distressed

*2023-05-14, version 5.0.8*

I have been a StC user for a while with no problem. But am confused and distressed that my iPad version won’t / can’t upload to my PRo laptop version. I have just started a new project on my iPad and am distressed that I might lose it or have to re type it all on my desktop to continue working and changes won’t be saved. My iPad version has gone back to bear basic beta testing mode. I can’t see or change my account password to make sure they both link but afraid to log out in case I can’t get back in. Help.I love the app etc normally but am afraid of the cat right now and pulling my fur out! I tried to reinstall via website but it says app is not available in my country or region 😳What’s going on. Help…

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your money on this app

*2022-08-26, version 5.0.2*

This is not a one time purchase item, you have to keep paying yearly. If this where an antivirus app or something of that kind I could understand having to renew it every year. You are only wasting your money. They don’t give you any option to buy the app out right. and if that’s not bad enough this is a weird and unorthodox method of storytelling, which is very confusing because they don’t use storytelling standards. If you wanna learn how to use this app you have to learn a completely different language in storytelling first so why bother.

### 1/5 — Wish I can change the font size or something on the UI

*2022-01-20, version 4.1.2*

App seems great and I’m excited to utilize these great tools. Although it drives me crazy that the UI labels get cut off (in both orientations) and can get a little confusing at times. Hope they add a fix.

### 1/5 — Love the book, hating the app

*2021-08-20, version 4.1.1*

The UX on this app is infuriating. Trying to add text to the beats and I almost always get stuck in the beat field. There’s no way to get out of it. On the occasion I can see the longline if I click on that I can get out but if not there’s no way to move out of the field. So frustrating. I hope they can fix this. Happy to send a video of what I’m talking about. Currently using the latest version on an iPhone 12 Pro.

### 1/5 — DISASTER.

*2021-06-29, version 4.1.1*

Work disappeared for unknown reasons. 72 hours after requesting help, still no response. Am I supposed to be tempted to go all-in with this app or stay with a perfected program (think Final Draft)? If this is supposed to be an integrated methodology, then it’s completely lost on me - and the fault lies with the developer. Too bad too - having a workable alternative would be nice. Save the Cat! Is *not* it.

### 1/5 — Clunky

*2021-05-18, version 4.0.13*

Clunky and hard to use but good for getting an idea down during a meeting or other boring event where you can’t access a laptop and work on your script

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — This is stellar!

*2026-01-06, version 5.0.21*

This app has everything I need to outline my scripts. Thank you for this, fellas! I’d definitely recommend this for anyone trying to figure out how to outline their scripts ❤️😎

### 5/5 — :)

*2024-11-30, version 5.0.16*

Great app for storytellers and it can be opened by final draft go for free

### 5/5 — So so useful!

*2023-12-22, version 5.0.10*

Structuring a project is incredibly hard, but using the patented Save the Cat outline, here you have a great tool to break things down and think about keep structural elements that need to land within any project.

### 5/5 — Marvelous Tool!

*2023-03-15, version 5.0.6*

This is the sort of application any novelist may hope for (along with the book, Saves the Cat Writes a Novel). Personally, this was the very tool I was hoping to find after reading the corresponding book!

It is simple, sure, albeit this is one of those instances in which simple is all that is necessary, for such a tool will make sure all of the needed components are there, so that you can create a compelling story: how to ensure you capture & keep the attention of your readers is found within these tried-and-true blueprints.

…If one is unfamiliar with story formulas, described in Saves the Cat Writes a Novel, this app may not seem helpful. Thereby it is best to either read the book first, or research what each ingredient is independently (& understand it) before proceeding to utilize this application as an outlining tool for your story.

So appreciative of both of these tools; they are essential to all writers who’d like to know the winning recipe for a wonderful & impactful story.

Thank you Saves the Cat team!

### 5/5 — The Best

*2022-12-18, version 5.0.3*

Between Save the Cat and Scrivener, writing would be harder.

### 5/5 — Love

*2022-10-14, version 5.0.3*

I’m just new to this app,I have many ideas and I don’t have the money to unlock all of the features and as the other people have said, this is really good.

I feel calm once I installed this app,it gives me more of a wide range of creativity as I deal upon writers block all the time.

Many of my ideas from when I was young could come to life soon and I’m happy for it,I am an independent artist, could be any art as I am very creative,I will even recommend this to someone they might find it useful.

😄

### 5/5 — It’s fun to use- as adding photos into board really makes script come alive

*2022-10-06, version 5.0.3*

It’s extremely good when you dig deep into ‘the cats’ soul

### 5/5 — Great Improvement Over Previous Version

*2021-01-13, version 4.0.11*

I like the decisions made in this new version of the software. I’ve been using it for a few days now and I already find it to be a great improvement over the previous version. I definitely recommend it for anyone who appreciates Blake Snyder’s approach to screenwriting.

### 5/5 — Improved app and promo code to migrate from older version

*2020-09-21, version 4.0.9*

The app features some improvements, it is better structured and more intuitive.
I contacted the customer service and they provided me a promo code to migrate over to the essential version at no additional cost.
They even helped me with the technicalities of the process.
Highly satisfied.

### 5/5 — Great but please add Scrivner Export

*2020-08-12, version 4.0.9*

The new version is much better and love the export options. Many people use Scrivner for novels though. If you can export to it and utilize the cards in Scrivner for the scenes, it would be amazing.
