### 5/5 — Green pencil

*2013-04-05*

This is by far my favorite practice tool. This app is so well made and easy to use. It has refined my sense of pitch (which was good to begin with) and I have had all my students start using it. The other drone apps in the App Store do not compare.

### 5/5 — Oh my gosh!!

*2013-03-16*

I wish I could have known about this sooner! It really helped me with my tone and intervals!

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2013-03-02*

This app has helped me with my scales and intonation a lot. It's easy to use. I like that it has different octaves and the ability to hear intervals together. Also my favorite pitch pipe app because you can start/stop the pitch at will and it produces a very clear tone. It's not hard on the ears, so you can use it as a drone while you practice and you won't get annoyed. Great app!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2013-02-21, version 1.3*

### 5/5 — Part of my warm up

*2013-01-26*

A teacher suggested doing something similar to me decades ago. I finally have tool to incorporate it easily into my practice routine.

### 5/5 — Great

*2012-11-08, version 1.3*

Awesome. It is great to practice with and works as a pitch pipe if needed!

### 5/5 — Best Droning Yet

*2012-09-12*

This is a must have app for any string player. Can do much more than any droning machine/tone generator I've ever worked with. If you want to improve your intonation, get this app- extremely easy and convenient.

### 5/5 — Nailed it!

*2012-07-04*

This immediately became my favorite app to use when practicing. The interface is simple and everything is on one screen. Excellent work!

### 5/5 — USEFUL!!

*2012-06-29, version 1.2*

This app has become part of my daily ear practice. If all I have is 5mins to shed, it's with this app!!

### 5/5 — Every Musician Must Have and Use This

*2012-04-26*

We teach and learn about the physical properties of sound waves and how they combine. We teach and learn about good intonation and how music can really come alive when it is in tune. Then we practice are scales to a piano, guitar, or chromatic tuner for thousands of hours in the practice room - essentially drilling out of our heads all the correct stuff we learn. We think that "perfect" pitch is correct …

The scale master app is the right tool to train your ear whether you are a vocalist in an a cappella ensemble, a trombone player, or conducting an orchestra (and everything else too). Listen to correct intervals. Practice playing the right "major third above C". Make your music better with Scale Master.

### 5/5 — Absolutely Essential

*2012-04-11*

This amazing app should be as important to an individual musician as his/her metronome and mouthpiece! It is incredibly easy to use and offers all the functionality of expensive CD drones at no cost. Good intonation is the mark of a talented player, and using this app in conjunction with a tuner is a highly effective method for developing that tuning skill!

### 5/5 — Yup

*2012-03-28*

This app rocks. My intonation has improved so much because I can listen to drones and intervals. Maybe have different voices available too?

### 5/5 — Excellent!

*2012-03-08*

By far the best, most advanced drone machine available in the app store. And for free?! Most drone CDs cost around $10!

This is great for students at any level, and truly gets a great workout for anyone! I have essentially put away my $80 tuner/met and pulled out my old $5 metronome because the intonation workout this offers is invaluable to live performance.

There are a few things I hope can be offered at some point:

1) Having the ability for the drone to play for an allotted amount of time (120 seconds, or 32, 4/4 measures at 80bpm, etc)

2) A button to go up or down by half step. I know that each pitch has its own button (and I love this!), but many of the exercises I do only allow for one measure of rest before it goes up or down the half step, so having a button rather than searching for the letter would be awesome!

Once again, a great app!

### 5/5 — Wonderful app!

Performers and teachers alike will be able to find many uses for this great app. It's an advanced drone machine that's free!! Love it.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Only 1 octave.

*2022-06-13*

As is it’s pretty useless. Plays only one octave. Good idea, but the developer evidently has pretty much abandoned the app anyway.

### 1/5 — Review

*2014-07-10, version 1.7*

It would be better if there wasn't an ad right next to the play button. It's such an infuriating thing.

### 3/5 — Practice tool

*2020-03-05*

It’s a great practice tool. Scale visual gets out of sync with the corresponding notes. it would be nice to be able to play two octaves.

### 3/5 — Decent but could be way better

*2019-01-26*

First, scales freeze at times and needs to shut down before it works again. Should include whole notes and wider metronome range. Two octave scales would be great. Otherwise, helpful for intonation practice.

### 4/5 — Volume

*2021-01-30*

I do wish the drone was a bit louder.

### 5/5 — Great intonation workout

*2025-08-21*

I’ve been using this app for years to practice intonation using slow scales. I only wish they could go even slower than half notes at 60.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2021-10-31*

I’m very happy with this program because it does what I need it to do: figure out what key a song is in!

### 5/5 — Love the Drones!

*2019-10-14*

I love using the drones when practicing. This has helped my intonation so much.

### 5/5 — Excellent APP For scale practice

*2017-07-24*

Really love it. Please add multi-octave scales!

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2016-02-12*

...I would appreciate background playback, but other than that, it really is perfect. It could afford to be a little more visually appealing but of course that isn't the point here. Thanks for keeping this app alive; it's an incredible resource

## Most praised reviews (5 highest-rated)

I use with sax and long tones to make music practice

### 5/5 — Great app

*2014-03-29, version 1.6*

Really useful when to help with pitch recognition when buzzing.

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2014-03-23, version 1.6*

Perfect app for the musician on the go, I use it as a teacher and performer! Helpful with training ears and intonation work.

### 5/5 — Amazing tool!

*2013-07-06, version 1.3*

Playing any instrument with a drone is the best way to train your ear! Thanks for such a great product!

### 5/5 — Student

*2013-05-12*

Very nice! Could there be future updates with even more scales on them?
