### 2/5 — The tools are fine but Subscribe with caution…

*2025-02-21, version 2.5.1*

I have been using these tools (ChordBank, ScaleBank) at a premium level for almost three years. When I posed a question about access to the “All in” subscription model I have been ghosted by the Better Notes support team. Three messages over the last two months without reply. Contact support before subscribing.

### 2/5 — Scales

*2024-08-03, version 2.3.0*

Why separate the scales from the chords? Profit?

### 5/5 — Good way to practice scales.

*2023-08-07, version 2.3.0*

A good way to practice scales. I look at it all of the time.

### 4/5 — I’d rather buy then rent

*2023-06-22, version 2.3.0*

This is a pretty good app (the parts I can access for free, that is). The only criticism I have is that the Acoustic guitar sound isn’t that great, but that’s a low level issue.

I’d really like to make use of some more scales but I just don’t want another subscription in my life. I’d happily do a one-time payment for separate sections.

### 5/5 — Guitar scales in a very easy way to follow

*2023-06-09, version 2.3.0*

Love it so far after 1 hour of use

### 5/5 — Great tool

*2023-05-27, version 2.3.0*

This is an awesome tool for learning scales

### 5/5 — Great for learning scales

*2023-01-18, version 2.0.11*

I had trouble learning scales at first. Just looking them up online and never really memorizing them just learning them in the moment . But when I started using this I noticed the parents been tween the scales and sped up my learning so much.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2022-12-14, version 2.0.11*

I love this app in its simplicity and usability. All the most common scales clearly presented on a fret board. Option to have metronome on or off. Once you get a scale down you can try your hand at soloing over some tracks. Other useful options as well. Endorse!

### 5/5 — Recently purchased but have played for decades. This is the greatest!

*2022-10-28, version 2.0.11*

I spent years playing guitar. Studied under an amazing jazz player from New Orleans. Began studying chords and scales intensely while playing in a band and the absolute best approach that unlocked the mystery of the guitar neck is in this recent app update.

The CAGED approach is essential. Once grasped the entire neck is opened up to the mind. Well, here it is well presented. I’m impressed with this developer, he is responsive to guitar players and I heartily recommend the app to beginners and advanced players. Thx for such a great product!

### 5/5 — Music lover

*2022-10-24, version 2.0.10*

As a left handed player I must say that this app is what is a God sent. Wish all apps had left handed option. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Very helpful

*2022-10-12, version 2.0.10*

This is a nice looking scale app and one of the easiest to use that I’ve found. It’s quick to change scales and roots so you can compare different patterns and positions. Easier than almost any other I’ve used. They include useful practice tracks to play over as well. Very good.

### 3/5 — Can’t find scale

*2022-01-29*

I can’t find hexatonic scale like in previous version… it’s bad

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Free?

*2025-12-21, version 2.5.1*

This used to be free. Now it’s not 🤦‍♂️👎🏻

### 1/5 — Money Grab

*2025-04-14, version 2.5.1*

Another money hungry developer. After paying for a “lifetime” subscription years ago, now they want a monthly subscription for the “max” features of the app. This society of subscription based services where everyone is searching how to get another $4.99 a month from people is disgusting. You will own nothing and subscribe to it for $12.99 a month (ads) and $19.99 a month (no ads) plus get an email every few months quietly notifying you the price is increasing. Pshhh. Kick rocks!

### 1/5 — you HAVE to PAY to see the scales

*2024-06-23, version 2.3.0*

you gotta actually pay to see any of the scales of which ig i’ll just be searching online for. big let down

### 1/5 — Used to be able to use all the scales but now you have to pay

*2024-01-12, version 2.3.0*

I’ve been using this app for about two years now and I go on it today and I can’t look at the skills. I normally look at I can only look at the three major ones big problem I’m deleting.

### 1/5 — Rip off. Requires a subscription

*2023-04-30, version 2.1.0*

Subscription models agave ruined the App Store. You end up paying thousands for an app you will never own. I will NEVER subscribe to an app. Please just let us buy a full version at a reasonable price instead of being greedy. Apps used to cost .99 cents. It’s out of control now.

### 1/5 — STAY AWAY!!!

*2023-01-20, version 2.0.11*

I paid for this app years ago, and it was a good app. But now they want a subscription to access what I paid for years ago. There are many great alternative apps without subscriptions. I recommend getting one of those apps instead. STAY AWAY FROM THIS APP!!!

### 1/5 — Paid for lifetime pass and no longer valid?

*2022-11-09, version 2.0.11*

This app logged me out after an update and now wants money on subscription. I had access for years easily and referenced it all the time, but Im deleting all their products today and getting the classic basic instructor posters online somewhere.

### 1/5 — Do not download

*2022-09-06, version 2.0.8*

This app automatically charges a monthly subscription after 2 weeks. That information was not mentioned in the product description and is a deceitful business practice/scam.

### 1/5 — No bass support

*2021-12-27, version 2.0.7*

Not very useful for bass players.

### 1/5 — Stupid App

*2021-11-23, version 2.0.6*

Like all other apps these days you have to pay like $5 a month to get access to any of the important scales. I would give less than 1 star if that was possible cause it just pisses me off when apps do this.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Tool

*2026-05-01, version 2.5.2*

### 5/5 — 100% Recommend

*2025-11-03, version 2.5.1*

I use this tool to help me memorize the entire front board and all of the scale patterns super useful!

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2025-08-09, version 2.5.1*

This app has taken my guitar playing skills to new levels. It opened up the whole fretboard for me absolutely amazing

### 5/5 — Simple and useful

*2025-05-03, version 2.5.1*

### 5/5 — Great app

*2024-08-15, version 2.3.0*

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2024-07-10, version 2.3.0*

Awesome
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

### 5/5 — My favorite practice and reference tools

*2023-12-26, version 2.3.0*

The more I learn guitar, the more I realize this app has to offer. There's no piece of gear you can get that will improve your sound and playing anywhere near what practicing using these tools will do.

### 5/5 — Great App!

*2023-11-05, version 2.3.0*

If you’re familiar with the Guitar Grimoire Black Book, then you’ll feel right at home here. I love this app better because it gives you practice drills, backing tracks, and allows you to see the fingerings, notes, or intervals (whichever you prefer). It’s also good for both righties and your weirdo friends.

I sort of feel that the annual $29.99 sub is rather steep, as it appears that there aren’t any real substantial “updates” or new features that keep the app fresh; this may or may not be a consideration for you.

Overall, I love the app on my iPad, but I’m not sure if it will be as great on the iPhone’s smaller screen?
