But i'm still getting many. To the developer, it would be great if you can put a statistics in the app to show how many times the app has intervened or blocked a known spam call otherwise this is all just a "trust me bro" application... ### 2/5 — Not sure if it actually works in my country *2025-07-20* This app is available to download in Costa Rica however I am not sure if the app features like "submitting a report", "call the helpline" and so on actually works for me since it seems to be for Singapore only. **Developer response:** Hi there, ScamShield is currently designed for use in Singapore and works best with local numbers and scam reporting channels. Features like submitting a report or calling the helpline are tailored to Singapore’s anti-scam efforts. We recommend checking with your local authorities for similar tools available in Costa Rica. Stay safe! ### 3/5 — Usefulness in the long run *2025-05-16, version 4.1.0* The intention of the app is good but people are not seeing the usefulness of reporting when they don’t know what more can be done because clean numbers can still be obtained easily by scammers. it’s also not user friendly to have to key in the number rather than to have a button to click and report after finding a number suspicious. unless people see the usefulness, very soon people will stop using it altogether. ### 4/5 — Review *2025-05-09, version 4.1.0* I think the intention of the app is very good as it is one of the effective tool to fight against scam. However, for long run, the app will need to be more robust in order to stay relevant. For example, is there anyway to prevent scammer from using the same app to check whether their phone number is blacklisted until they found a clean one to use? Is the app able to utilise the AI features to analyse the scam call and pinpoint them to the relevant officer to bring them into justice? Prevention is good but deterrence could be more effective. ### 2/5 — Was 5 stars *2024-06-27, version 3.0.1* Seems to no longer really work at filtering anything. All the scam messages come in. The reports don’t seem to make any differences. Many of these SMS come from local numbers. I can report these and see subsequent messages from the exact same numbers. Not sure if anybody actually reads the submissions or if it just goes into a black box to be discarded. Will stop submissions if there is no point to it ### 2/5 — App has slowed down considerably in past few months *2024-05-17, version 3.0.1* The app has become incredibly laggy in the last few months. Each input by me takes a few mins to be processed before allowing the next input. It is very inconvenient to wait so long to report one scan. Please rectify it. Much as I would like to help the scam fighting effort, the app should not make it so frustrating to do so. ### 2/5 — Abit useless app *2024-05-16, version 3.0.1* Despite having the app installed, I am still receiving a few calls from scammers claiming to be from POSB/ICA. Although the number have significantly reduce, the amount of scam calls i receive for the past one week is almost 10, which is an average of 1 scam calls per day. I had to call respective platforms with their official number to verify the authenticity of such calls. ### 2/5 — Unable to block phone calls on iPhone 13 Pro Max *2023-11-15, version 2.1.0* When we follow the instructions to enable the app for calls, there is an error stating “Failed to request data for Scamshield. You may try enabling the extension again, and if the problem persists, contact the application developer.” But there are no errors for the messages extension. ### 3/5 — How effective? *2023-04-03, version 1.0.10* Too bad the user unable to know whether the apps is working or not, so can only give 3 star assuming it is working. We do not have the record how many time the apps has blocked the scam calls, so it’s not that useful in that way. I believe it’s only blocked known numbers in their data based, example 5,000, but those not in the list can’t be blocked. Scammers generate disguised number which Millions available so basically not possible to block all. ### 4/5 — Feedback for consideration? *2023-02-14, version 1.0.10* Thanks for the good working in creating this. I think it’s definitely a great app to silence (number not in user contact) spam call and allowing users to report spam sms etc. I only have a concern on genuine calls ie. Hospital (official) and for adults with kids or elderly that got lost or don’t know how to get home (personal). I’m just wondering if there is a way this app can improved with the help of govt poppy’s telco to implementing (especially official businesses ie. Medical -Hospital, Polyclinic, old folks home, etc; Govt - CPF, HDB etc; Schools- primary, sec, JC etc etc) to register their official numbers that they can only use to call user and not to be part of the silence call so that it will ring on user phone in case of emergency or appointment related or in response to their queries and help/support needed from welfare organisations. Well maybe not all people needed this but those who needs to take care of elderly, kids / teens. it can be a feature to allow user to turn this ON if they want or OFF if they don’t want? Then on lost and found ie anyone lost especially elderly or children/teens? Maybe have a feature to allow users with this group of concern to ON so same number calling for maybe the 3rd or 4th call from the same number not to be silenced. OFF regardless same number call x times just silence it? This is to address especially those with dementia having a tag with contact details helps but not helps if the call has been silence by this app. Children which adult make them remember their phone number get lost and borrow some passer-by phone to call for help but call being silenced by this app. So having a feature with options to turn on x number of repeated call from same number can ring after maybe 3rd or 4th try? ### 4/5 — It worked! But… *2022-12-30, version 1.0.10* Still receiving some scam messages from numerous number. I can only say these scammers really put some work to make their message sneak pass the firewall, too much irritating I really wish to track them down personally and raid their workplace even tho I can’t really do that legally…. ### 3/5 — After app update, Unable to see the “Call Blocking & Identification” in settings *2021-10-23, version 1.0.10* Dear developers After your update, i am unable to see “Call blocking & Identification”. Though able to activate scamshield with workaround listed below, perhaps developers need to check your codes again or maybe update the Scamshield guide in phone section as the workaround below is only in Messages section of your user guide. I am on iOS 15.0.2, iPhone 13 Pro Max I tried to resolve with the following workaround (based on reviews and steps by users in Apple support and Messages section of Scamshield guide): 1. Settings 2. Privacy 3. Tracking —> Switch on “Allow Apps to Track” 4. Phone —> you will see “Call Blocking & Identification” reappears 5. Select “Call Blocking & Identification” 6. You will see “Scamshield” under “Call Identification Apps” —> Activate by switching on Once done, I switched off the “Allow Apps to Track” Scamshield activated, but not sure Scamshield blocks off spam calls if i switch off “Allow Apps to track”. Am trying this out first to see if spam / robo calls are blocked. ### 4/5 — Phone Function Does Not Work *2021-10-06, version 1.0.9* I just downloaded it for the first time today. Tried to set it up on the phone but an error returned to say “Error Enabling Extension. The data provided by ScamShield was incomplete.” Maybe an update is needed? I don’t know. Seems to be working ok for Messages. Hope it is addressed soon. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Doesn’t Work *2025-11-11, version 4.2.0* If it works, the scam rate wouldn’t hit this - Scam victims in Singapore have lost around S$3.8 billion since 2020, with a record S$1.1 billion in losses last year. ### 1/5 — Useless apps *2025-10-27, version 4.2.0* It’s not helpful at all since the phone number looks genuine. It can’t track a scam call that has been tag to a normal mobile phone number. Wandering what’s the point of using this apps if it has so much limitations in function! ### 1/5 — Does not block scam calls *2025-10-25, version 4.2.0* I get about 4 to 5 calle from random US and pakistan numbers. This thing cant block any of those ### 1/5 — UNKNOWN numbers used by scammer *2025-09-26, version 4.2.0* Scammers are using caller id non display. Phone shows UNKNOWN number calling. But you cannot report UNKNOWN number in ScamShield ### 1/5 — Effective or not really unsure *2025-01-22, version 4.1.0* Can only report numbers that you actually pick up the call. Problem is everyday there are so many unknown phone number calling me and all looks similar example it starts with 8533 and all diferent number and can call every min one shot. How to even report this kind? Not really effective. Because we have no idea if the app will really go and follow u if we reported. They shouldn’t take away the whatsapp deature. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work as suggested *2025-01-12, version 4.1.0* This app doesn’t seem effective in preventing scam calls (it hasn’t blocked a single one from me despite multiple calls a day) as much as it allows you to report suspected numbers, which it also isn’t effective in categorising. I checked a number I had reported 4 days ago, which had over 40 more reports since, and it marked it as unknown, not suspicious and not blocked. A single break through call could greatly affect a vulnerable person, and I don’t see how numbers are allowed to operate when reported, let alone after receiving multiple reports from multiple people ### 1/5 — No unknown number reporting function *2025-01-12, version 4.1.0* I receive many unknown calls but cannot report due to no such function available in this app. u expect us to block every unknown calls. then what is the point of this app when we cannot even report using this app. with lots of unknown numbers calls, u expect us to block everytime? what is this app's purpose then? cannot even block unknown numbers and not even one report function for us to report on unknown numbers... this ScamShield is useless... ### 1/5 — unknown callers *2024-12-07, version 4.1.0* There is occasional frequent unknown numbers call in. When you try call back, it will create a pattern of user is busy or call failed after a number of successful call through that lasts for 3-4 secs but without anyone picking up. Number is as if of abused numbers that is sync in system for incoming calls. Problem is scamshield disallow such report. Which means such abused numbers will keep coming in, that can create part of mobile malware scheme. ### 1/5 — After all these years, still useless app *2024-03-21, version 3.0.1* I’ve been receiving scam calls on a daily basis so despite After reading all the negative review about this app, I still decided to download it. I cannot even set up the app after downloading. Looks like this app does more harm and inconvenience than good. If I’m not wrong, this app is by Singapore Police Force and the government, am I right? The barrage of negative reviews are consistent and travels all the way back to 3 years ago. They should either fix it once and for all or remove it from AppStore coz this app is a disgrace. ### 1/5 — DO NOT ENABLE THIS APP!!!!! *2021-05-09, version 1.0.7* It blocks calls simply with ONE dumb rule: any number that is not in your phone book is blocked. This is not an intelligent app; don’t expect anything smart. You risk missing important customer calls, missing deliveries, and a load of other important calls JUST BECAUSE THEIR NUMBERS ARE NOT IN YOUR PHONE BOOK. This app CANNOT BE DISABLED ONCE INSTALLED. No matter what you do, you cannot disable it. Uninstalling does do anything. Instructions to disable is absolute RUBBISH. Your apps is great. & I start to realise the phone scam filter is not turn on after receiving scam call, this happen when I change to a new iPhone. Error message said : error enabling extension, data provided by ScamShield was invalid. If problem persist contact developers ( I already try many times included reinstalling -same message ) thank you - keep up the good work. ### 5/5 — Better than doing nothing *2021-08-21, version 1.0.8* While the app may have some limitations, i.e. not 100% of the calls are blocked, it is one of the best we have thus far. Scamshield may be in its infancy but the course of direction is correct. There is no reason why our daily lives should be disrupted by petty criminals, and they should be subjected to prosecution by the full extent of the law. ### 5/5 — I'm contented. *2021-06-01, version 1.0.7* Very contented with this government app, it's free, it is government's, it's trustable and it works just fine. I wouldn't say it's an all game end ultimate app, it does miss some spam calls (acting as DBS) but it does largely block out the spam messages. If only it can be implemented to other messaging apps as well (as Line and WeChat I tend to get random weird "beautiful lady" chats trying to act like it). There's another feature I like as well, which is reporting, I love to report on those Loan shark/illegal betting messages. Overall, it's free, it's useful to quite an extent, I got no complains. Please continue to improve on the app nonetheless! ### 5/5 — Very effective *2020-12-27, version 1.0.5* I’ve never received another spam sms since the day I installed this (used to be at least 1 or 2 everyday, so it really makes a lot of difference for me). I like that we can easily access the list of numbers that have been blocked so we can know if some non-spam msgs got filtered by accident. Still receiving spam calls though so looking forward for calls to be blocked too.
