However I wish it didn’t require you pay after a certain amounts of scans ### 3/5 — I would love to love this *2022-09-07, version 2021.1.1.1* But photos scan with contrast way too high, it crashes sometimes when I tap to take a shot, there is o photo scan setting only objects, people or text, and I cannot tell it where to save photos. It moves them somewhere. The o c r is great. ### 3/5 — Can’t recommend without fixes *2022-08-02, version 2021.1.1.1* While it does a good job when you’ve got it set correctly I can’t recommend and won’t purchase without two fixes: One you can’t default to scanning documents. I see no way to change it and it always defaults to objects. Can’t find a way to default the save folder either. Most importantly though adjusting the scan and or crop is impossible. They display the magnified view of what you are adjusting under your finger instead of offset like every other scan app I’ve used. Perhaps they need to look at others for inspiration. I can never see what I’m cropping and it is necessary frequently so I just won’t use it at all. It is however fast and seems accurate but the friction in daily use is just too much for me. ### 4/5 — A little manual control would be nice *2022-07-11* This app is nearly very good at clipping objects on the fly or from photos, except it often leaves a bit behind, the cause, simply because the missing piece is tonally different to the rest of the object. The app also does the opposite and ads pieces that are not part of the object because it buts up against and is tonally the same as the object. I feel that a little bit of manual control of the clipping process would be a great help to an otherwise excellent app. It’s not always possible to have the object surrounded with a neutral background. Something to think about for a fourth coming update perhaps. ### 3/5 — This app has loads of potential! *2022-06-16, version 2021.1.1.1* Edge detection is pretty great but often just misses the mark. This app has no way to refine its selection. If this was possible this would be a five star app! Good job, developers and staff, you won me over! ### 4/5 — Needs Auto save option for document scans *2022-02-13* I’m a little disappointed when scanning documents, even though I take them, I don’t know where to find the files of the scans if I have missed the step to save them to a location, hence I lose hours of work, by a simple mistake. Surely you should be able to take them then they save to your gallery, or to your iCloud folder, please add this auto location saving option to the settings page of the App. ### 5/5 — 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨 *2022-02-01, version 2021.1.1.1* Feature request can you add a dedicated folder in camera roll so that when you export an image they will be organized in there.. for example the way Luma fusion exports a video to camera roll in its own folder ### 3/5 — Document scanner is a bit of an afterthought *2022-01-27, version 2021.1.1.1* As far as I can tell, the document scanner is just a wrapper of the built-in Files/Notes scanner feature, which isn’t that great. I had some more specific criticisms, but I left them in an email to the developer since they’re mostly related to this fact. I’m sure it’s nice for scanning objects, but for documents there’s little point to this app. It might add an OCR text layer, which iOS doesn’t do, but I would still recommend Scanner Pro for mobile document scanning for the moment, despite this app’s better privacy policy, payment model, and adherence to iOS norms. ### 5/5 — Great! Grab text from anywhere. *2022-01-21, version 2021.1.1.1* When I read books and articles, I highlight interesting things which I sometimes refer to in material I write. This is the easiest way I’ve found to do that. I can’t believe how quickly and accurately it extracts text! Just what I’ve been needing. If I can dream for a second, a feature I’d love to see is the ability to input part of the title of a book, etc. which would become the first part of a file name to be used until I change or delete it and then be able to input a page number, etc. before storing the file which would become the last part of the file name. It would also be nice to optionally, automatically, make this last part an incrementing number. Thank you! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Excellent *2024-04-30* I do a lot of small product photography this app is great just pop the item on any background and it removes the surrounding image leaving a clean image, occasional freeze up and now and then I do need to move position as not all the image is there but those are minor issues. I have not tried the text option yet. Update:- Still a good app but buggy, often I’ll press scan object and the icon in the centre just keeps spinning constantly or freezes i have to close the app then re-start this happens often. I have reported the bug but no response from developer. Update - The scan thing is buggy it will often just whirr around do nothing the app is ok when working but I spend more time closing it reopening it, sadly support do not respond I’m downgrading review to don’t buy it. 3 years and no updates to fix the issues no response to emails the developer isn’t bothered. Don’t bother getting this app. ### 1/5 — Stopped working after purchase *2022-01-05, version 2021.1.1.1* The app worked well enough that I went and paid for the full version. As soon as my purchase was complete, though, the app stopped working. It won’t save scans (it gives an error that says something like “image not created,” and it says “no text identified” or something like that when I try to capture plain-as-day black-and-white text in a book with no images and no fancy formatting. The app *will* take pictures and add them to my camera roll, but I don’t need to spend $5 for something that duplicates a function that’s already baked right into the OS. Sadly, I’ll be requesting a refund. ### 1/5 — They admit to collecting your data *2021-09-23, version 2021.1.1.1* If you pay five dollars, one of the benefits is that they don’t track and collect your data. So until you pay them they are collecting all your for your data. They also request to get access to all your photos. I think I’ll wait till this is a standard feature on the Apple camera. I did not grant access to the app for images and files, yet the app has the ability to access both things within the app. I do not like this at all. I need to know how to remove this access immediately. Someone please contact me. ### 1/5 — Pay to use (READ BEFORE GETTING) *2021-08-14, version 2021.1.1.1* At first when I got this app, it was so cool, you can scan certain things with the background not being there! Sadly, after a certain amount of uses, the app charges you $5 to take pictures, like why would I pay money to take pictures? I feel like that isn’t something that should be required just to take pictures. A suggestion for this app is to please make the scanning free, the app is free itself, but please have unlimited scanning free. ### 2/5 — Excellent App *2022-01-01* Works extremely well, it’s a must have app and adds great functionality to an iPhone or iPad. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed. The best part - Data Not Collected, I wish more developers did the same. Edit: downgraded due to the way you choose which function you want to use. The selection button is the worst out of any app I have used. It is terrible, difficult to use and needs to be changed. ### 2/5 — Nope *2021-05-11, version 2021.1.1.1* Would only buy it if I can focus on objects. Most of it came out blurry (including texts on documents) even though I have good lighting. I couldn’t try other objects since the free scans are reduced even if you didn’t save your scan. I’ll come back later when this is fixed. ### 2/5 — Tried it, but the handful of free scans did not impress *2021-01-09, version 2021.1.0.2* It seemed relatively easy to use, and the scan objects thing was kind of cool, but the OCR was not very good and the single document that I tried scanning before I ran out of free scans (which took about three minutes) didn’t work properly at all. I would probably play with it more if the unlock was more like $1, but for $10, it didn’t show enough promise to be worth the investment. ### 3/5 — 5 stars until 3 days ago *2024-04-16* This app has literally been the photographer behind my Ecom business for years until it started crashing on open about three days ago. It wasn’t until I went to the App Store to check to see if I just needed to update the app that I realized this hasn’t been updated in 3 years… yet it’s owned by Weebly so I can’t imagine this is actual abandonware? It’s been worth every penny and would happily pay for another in-app purchase just to have someone fix whatever’s causing the crash - is anyone out there? Really wish I could tag or @ weebly atm but alas hoping someone reads this ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Best scanner so far *2023-05-11* Scanner apps were amongst my first purchases on buying iPads when they were first released. The apps - even now - range from adequate to embarrassing. If you want ultimate control of scans - and the increase in time required for even the simplest scan - then look elsewhere. However, I have never owned an app that scans more accurately and the speed, particularly for multi-page documents, is second to none. I use Scan Thing because it is reliable and efficient. It’s automatic processing beats what I manage in other, more complex, scanning apps 99% of the time and the finished PDF requires no separate compression, this is also handled automatically. If you need to adapt for severe page distortion, then you may need a second app, otherwise Scan Thing just quietly gets on with producing top rate scans quickly and effectively. Having tried well over 20 apps over the years, this is my favourite scanner app. ### 5/5 — I do all my scanning with it *2022-12-24, version 2021.1.1.1* Often have to email receipts or copies of documents, scan things perfectly serves this purpose. ### 5/5 — Simple! *2022-12-11* But works just great. I just wish there was an option to add a background. It’s not a big deal, and maybe I’m missing it somewhere. For the price you can’t get everything included separately or in a single app that I have found. Just the text scan alone is a time saver for me. Yet this app still has more to offer, if you see some text that you want to have access to, and you can read it so can this app, copy that address, telephone number, email address, and then use them.
