### 4/5 — A great way to find your stuff!

*2023-05-10, version 3.1.0*

I am finding the app very useful, I especially like that I can search for any item and the app will show you exactly where it is. There are a couple of things I wish could be changed.

 1. When you first open the app it straight away opens the camera, I wish it could just go to “my boxes” view instead. When I am looking for something I use the search feature to tell me which box my item is in.

 2. When I print the barcode it would be nice to have the option to print JUST the barcode with NO description. It would also be really great if you could include print templates for popular Avery labels.

3. The export (with photos) does NOT export all items, plus, all the text is messed up.

### 4/5 — Good App

*2023-02-04, version 3.0.4*

Really simple and easy to use. Can you please add an option to the search function that searches for words from the comments section also. I have used this option to detail a brief description of items in my boxes but when I do a word search it does not find them. For me this would turn the app from good to great!! Thanks

### 4/5 — Awesome App

*2022-09-29, version 3.0.2*

This is exactly what I have been looking for. I have a very large yarn and fabrics stash for my hobbies that needs to be boxed up and stored all over my house. This app makes it so easy to know what I have and where I put it and I especially love that you can quantify your items - I love it.
I would have given you five stars but for one thing, when I write a description after taking a photo in edit mode the text does not show up on screen. Once it has been saved the text does turn up in the description. This makes it difficult for correction as I can’t see what I have actually written in edit mode. Any idea why this is happening?

### 4/5 — Best organization app I found so far

*2022-07-27*

I have a lot of boxes personally and professionally I need to organize and have spent a lot of time searching for the right app, box type, labeling system for personal and professional organization.
Personally I am using clear totes with lids along with this app and 8 1/2 x 11 two labels per sheet self-adhesive shipping labels for boxes for printing the QR codes.
Professionally, I’m using the nestable heavy duty boxes.
My only issue with this app so far is that there is a limit on the characters in the description for items that does not allow you to easily cut and paste

The other issue is not being able to customize The QR label generation.
The labels are generated vertically not horizontally and don’t know or have not found a way to change this. Would greatly appreciate feedback from anyone or the developer. Once I troubleshoot this, I would be happy to share my system with anyone who is interested as it is by far the most convenient and economical way to go especially when dealing with organization due to death in the family.

### 4/5 — Just what I needed

*2021-03-17, version 1.3.9*

Great app one thing which would be good to add is ability to indicate space left in box

As I’m trying to organise by type of object some boxes could be added to later but have add to item called space for now

### 4/5 — Great App, It Could Improve

*2021-02-13*

This app has been really good to me. I have several boxes in multiple locations and it does the job really well for the money (compared to other, subscription-based apps I’ve used.

I have been heavily using it now and can recommend a few updates that I would not mind paying for, and it would probably help earn that 5th star...

Individual item information:

The box name where the item is located is only displayed in the search results (list view). When you open the item, the box where it’s stored is not displayed anywhere. It would be great if it displayed the box name, box location and box category when viewing the item.

Individual item sharing.

It would be really awesome if the individual items could be shared with their name, picture, box name, box location and box category (like a snapshot) so you can send it to someone looking for the item on your behalf.

QR, Label Printing:

It would be amazing if the label can be printed to label sizes (like 4x6) and not an entire 8.5x11 page, so they can be printed directly to photo printers with 4x6 self-adhesive labels. The only way I was able to achieve this, was by doing a print screen and then cropping the image to 4x6. This would be a great improvement!

iOS Light vs. Dark Mode

When editing items, the “Give an annotation if you want” text box looks good when using iOS in “Light” mode. However, when using “Dark” mode, the black text can sometimes be a bit difficult to read over the dark background. Additionally, the text box is the same color of the background. It would be great if it’s not transparent, so it leverages the iOS color scheme and it becomes clear that it’s meant for user input.

**Developer response:** Hi A.,

Thank you very much for all your feedbacks.
It motivated me so much that a new version is on it's way with all your features requested 😊
Hope it will be useful for you.

### 5/5 — Great app, easy to use.

*2020-11-16*

Only question is where are all the photos stored? If I were to update my phone will all the stored boxes still exist?

Thanks!

**Developer response:** Hi B.ob.C
All the photos are stored on your iPhone or iPad. And when you save your boxes on iCloud, then the photos are compressed and saved on your iCloud personal account.
Thanks for using Scan Your Boxes.

### 4/5 — Good App needs better search capabilities

*2020-10-30*

I really like the app. The only problem I’m having is searching for individual items. When I search for individual items it only shows the box where that item is but it does not display the items that match the search term so I have to look for every single item in the box in order to find what I’m looking for. It would be really helpful to search for an item and get a list of matching items, once I select the one I want, then it can tell me where to find it.

### 5/5 — A simple way to box items and keep track of them

*2020-09-19, version 1.2.9*

There are a few apps to help with packing items in boxes and keep a record of them. Scan Your Boxes makes this process simple—you give your box a name, a location and category. Then you start to photograph the items you want to put in the box, give the item a name and description if you need one. You keep repeating that for each item or group of items in a box until you’re done with filling the box. Label the box and you’re done. The UI is simple to navigate and use, you can search by scanning the QR code or search for an object/box on the app.

The developer responds quickly and has added a couple of useful features that has made the app better.

If you are looking for an app to store things in a box give Scan Your Boxes a try. You can try it free for three boxes I think and then pay to use the app for an unlimited number of boxes. It’s not expensive and if anything should cost more or the developer should add a tip jar.

### 4/5 — How do I reach out to get support?

*2020-09-16*

Just installed and think it's pretty good. I'd like to know how to print out the QR labels though and also if there is a way to put something in a box multiple times without having to add the pictures. Like say I have 12 of the same picture frames, how can I just make one picture/item and write that there are 12 in the box?

**Developer response:** Hi Kylabarton,
You can print the QR Code of a box in two ways.
First option by using the "print" button at the top right of the list of your boxes and then selecting the boxes you want to print.
Second option by using the "QR Code" button available in your box at the top right of the screen. It will display the box's QR Code and you will be able to share it to have the print option.
In both cases, the application creates a pdf file that you can print from your iPhone / iPad or from your computer.
Thank you for using Scan Your Boxes and feel free to ask if you have any questions or the need of a new feature.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work w/ iOS 18

*2024-10-11*

Latest update crashes whenever I try to open any saved info. Hope this gets fixed soon.

**Developer response:** Hello
Sorry for the bug, it’s fix and the app update is available.

### 1/5 — Constant errors and we recognition issues

*2021-07-29*

QR code, when scanned from within their own app, produces “error”: the QR code is not recognized That’s stupid when you’ve just created the QR code. Scanning with another QR scanner app gives what appears to be a partial web address that takes you nowhere. I personally don’t have time to go figure out his to correct this crap immediately after purchasing. I’m asking for my money back.

In addition to this, evidently if you want resolution you have to sign up with github. NO NO NO

**Developer response:** Hi butterflybandit,

Sorry to ear that you had trouble with the app.
The scan feature works with two types or QR Codes: a default QR Code created by the app when a new box is created OR a custom QR Code that you can associate to your box (through creation or edition).
If possible I invite you to check that the QR Code scanned is either the default QR Code of your box or the custom QR Code associated to your box.
Having the partial web address scanned could helps me to provide you support with this issue.
The github page gives the possibility to discuss and find solutions for bugs. Apple doesn't provide this kind of tools. If it's easier for you, you can send an email with the detailed issue to this address: scanyourboxes@gmail.com

### 2/5 — Cloud storage and monthly fees, the bane of every modern app

*2025-11-18, version 3.6.6*

The app looks amazing, but the developer has to pay his bills so there is a $4.99 AUD per month billing for anything more than 5 boxes.

I would happily pay a once of fee of something like $20 for a version of the app that uses CloudKit to backup/sync my data between devices (which doesn’t impose a monthly fee of cloud on the developer) but it appears more and more apps don’t want to support this model of payment.

Happy to update review if this change ever did come into existence as it’s very clear the developer has made a good app here

### 2/5 — Photos Disappeared

*2024-08-11, version 3.3.0*

I went to use my app and some original items I entered have missing photos. I then also added another box and entered about 10 items now they have completely vanished along with photos from that box???

### 3/5 — Quantity will not update

*2024-12-25*

I would love to give this app 5 stars, however, the quantity will not update after saving. Only way to update quantity is to delete the item and add it again. Until this issue is resolved 3 stars at best.

### 3/5 — Box descriptive text needs to fit in the allotted space

*2021-07-14*

I have been using this app to organize my home moving. It’s useful. I find it annoying that the text field for describing the box does not 1) put line breaks at logical points (rectangula-r) 2) left justify text 3) flow text off the label boundaries especially when all the text would fit were it left justified.
The text field for “in:” and “contains:” are left justified so it is jarring that the first line of text is not.

### 3/5 — Additional Features

*2021-06-04*

I want to start off by saying this is the first app that has felt easy to use for doing this sort of inventory thing. It’s super easy to add objects and move them between boxes, but there are a few interface things that could be added in my opinion. First would be a way to sort the boxes alphabetically. My naming system wasn’t fully established when I made the first box and now it’s hard to tell what the next box in my sequence is. Second would be including the description in the search function. I’ve added keywords in the description so I have a better chance of searching for and finding something later. And finally, allowing the search to lookup individual words instead of complete search terms. For example if I have “Cable, 3’” as an item title, it would be convenient if I searched “3’ cable” that the item would show up. I don’t know if there is a simple way to do this, but I think it would help the recall function of the app. Overall I think it’s good, but want some more small features to make it even better.

### 3/5 — Good concept

*2021-03-19*

I like the QR code concept and that it helps me keep track of what’s in a box and where the box is, but the photo feature does not seem to be working for me. I’ve tried taking photos with the camera and assigning photos that I’ve already taken, and neither is working. It’s just giving me a greyed out icon.

**Developer response:** Hi luna_nyx,
Sorry to hear that. I tried to reproduce your error but without success.
Is it possible fo you to contact me on this page https://github.com/alienfamily/scanyourboxes/issues so that we can troubleshoot this?
Thanks for your help and your feedback.

### 3/5 — Swipe pictures between boxes

*2021-02-04*

Is there a way to swipe between ALL the pictures?
Currently you have to go to a box, look at pictures, then select another box and look st those pictures then select another box ...
Is there s way to just swipe through ALL the photos, and then select the box?

### 4/5 — Nice, but a few suggestions

*2024-12-06*

1. Would like to see the full camera image not the small section that you get, hard to get items to fit in that tiny window.

2. Tags do not appear to be saved and reusable across pictures and boxes, meaning you have to recreate them for every image. I use tags for things like Sell, Donate etc. Perhaps this works in the premium version?

3. Can’t see a way to search or filter by tags

4. A full gallery view or larger tile view of all items or filtered results would be nice.

5. Ideally a way to be able to apply tags like ‘Sell’ to multiple items at the same time.

6. The ability to crop the camera view before taking the image so you can focus more on the item.

**Developer response:** Hello,
Thank you for your feedback and suggestions. We will see how to match your needs in future releases.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-06-15, version 3.12.0*

Great app simple to use but a powerful tool for organising, searching for and locating multiple catalogued items.
Entry of data is simple. Searching is easy.
I’m still in the early days of using it and haven’t printed out QR codes yet but so far it is just what I need. After having tried a number of similar apps, this is the one I have settled on. I think it’s a good price too for entry of unlimited boxes.

### 5/5 — Not used fully yet but looks fab!

*2026-04-15, version 3.10.0*

Very recently downloaded the app and paid for unlimited boxes in preparation for a big storage unit sort. Love the simple interface and the advanced features like tagging. On that note however would it be possible to extend tags beyond the 5 limit please? Looking forward to getting stuck into using the app more very soon!

Edit 2 - after now using the app fully and paying for unlimited boxes etc I can confirm that this is fab! Also huge thank you for taking on board my feedback about tagging and making this change as it’s made a big difference for us!! What service! On that note I was hoping I could ask for another change which would help improve the app for us? Would it be possible to be able to tap on the photo of the items within the boxes and the image become full screen or bigger as being stuck at one size doesn’t allow us to see some details which would help.

Edit 3 - thank you so much for actively accepting feedback and included suggestions it’s really appreciated. I just wanted to let you know that on updating the app the full screen picture isn’t working for us though :/

### 5/5 — Not used fully yet but looks fab!

### 5/5 — Link to iPad question

*2024-10-16*

I paid for the Premium on my iphone for unlimited boxes. I would like to also have the app on my iPad, which is the same apple account. Do I have to pay for premium again? Or can they be linked as many of my apps are?

### 5/5 — This app is a lifesaver!

*2024-10-15*

Thanks to this app I was able to easily catalog thousands of items in dozens of storage bins. And? Thanks to the search feature and having pictures of each item, I’m no more than a few minutes between needing something and finding it.

In the past several years the app has saved me hundreds of hours of searching and allowed me to save a lot of money buying things I needed, already owned, but couldn’t find.

**Developer response:** Hello,
Thank you for your feedback and for using our app.

### 5/5 — Amazing app

*2024-09-05, version 3.3.0*

I’ve had this app for quite a while and I love how simple and useful it is! The interface is really easy to navigate and it gives me a great sense of organisation. If I was to add one thing, it would be the possibility of taking a photo of the box, so I know more precisely which one it is when I’m looking for an item. Other than that, it’s perfect!

### 5/5 — Simple yet incredibly powerful

*2021-11-22*

After trying so many storage apps I have to say this is a “Diamond in the rough”! Ability to print the QR codes with label and category (with multiple per sheet for the sides a tops of my containers (storage bins in my case). And ability to backup to iCloud, export csv AND print pdf of my entire inventory (with pics if you so choose). In a future release I would love to put pic of my container as thumbnail (currently it’s my first pic, which you can sort to top in place of thumbnail) and add cabinet, drawer (or allow us rename) as a icon/label for each box (I am printing these “box” QR codes for my cabinet doors, so I can list their contents as well. As is, the app is very flexible! I am getting creative with it LOL

### 5/5 — Does exactly what the name says, and does it it well

*2021-08-09, version 1.4.7*

I was after a simple inventory app to record the physical location of items in storage boxes. This app does exactly that and includes QR code support and essential item functions like moving items between boxes, deleting, editing and searching. Using the cloud feature allows you to share your inventory data across multiple devices, I use my iPad for bulk data entry and iPhone to locate and search.

Bottom line - it focuses on getting all the basics right and doesn’t include lots of bells and whistles you just don’t need. My use case was long term storage and I use pre-printed QR code stickers across a lot of storage boxes and locations. I need to find items quickly using the search function and identify box contents using the QR code. If your use case is like mine then look no further, this app is perfect and worth the small price if you need unlimited boxes. I’m glad I discovered it, great app!

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2021-04-19*

I have a big move coming up. This app is allowing me to inventory everything before I put it away in boxes and it has been a huge help. I love that if I want to find something, I just search any word and all items with the name pop up immediately with its image and location. There are still some other features I’d like, like a better sharing service between multiple devices/users so someone else that I allow can scan my box and see what’s in it, but the developer is working on it. The developer has been super responsive on GitHub and I have been incredibly impressed. I also appreciate how the data is kept on your device, so your stuff isn’t public. I think that’s what makes that sharing feature difficult to add on. Looking forward to seeing where this app goes.

### 5/5 — Good, fast, simple

*2021-01-15, version 1.3.3*

I like this so far - just straightforward and fast.
It’s not (yet) “full featured”, and there are a few areas of minor improvement that would actually make a big difference, but for an app developed by one person to solve a problem, it’s a remarkably elegant and useful.
