Back in 2016 timeframe my credit was 509 according to Credit Karma. I went through a terrible dissolution of a long term relationship and my finance’s were in ruins. Literally commercial banks would not even let me open an account. SCCU gave me an opportunity with a free checking account. I started reading intentionally about means and methods to improve my credit; let’s be honest, bad credit ruins access in many ways. From SCCU secure credit cards, to micro loans, fast forward to 2025 I attained a FICO score of 🥁 790! Then 791/3 at my pique. My point here is, when shopping for banks, I encourage folks to ask competitors about their payment plan options, fixed or 100% flexible from daily, weekly, monthly and differed options when the economy tanks from shutdowns etc… SCCU flexible options SAVES lives. I could say I’ve had an issue with crashing before but nothing inconvenient or annoying like some apps can be. They always tell you when they are having down time which is great. Lots of great features from tracking your cards, to locking them out, to tracking expenses where you spend the most. Lots of good safety features and just simply designed making it easy for everyone young and old to use with ease. Just a young guy trying to build credit and getting absolutely pummeled over a $13 missed charge because of a hard to navigate app that is always down. Will not spend another dime with this company after finding better options to help build credit. First 3 months of opening I was told the app I had was the old one when it wasn’t. Turns out it was issues on there end. Silly issues that crush my credit are unacceptable. I’ve been waiting for months for someone to follow up with me. I had to call and set up auto payments because of the failed two factor authentication. I never get the text message from SCCU. I regret using this financial institution.
