## What is Schacks Yaks?

Schack's Yaks makes kayak rentals fast and easy. Simply scan the QR code on any kayak lock, sign a digital waiver, pay securely, and you're on the water in minutes.

Features:

• Secure payment via Stripe — $15.90 for the first hour, $10.60 each additional hour
• Real-time rental timer with live cost tracking
• Lock and unlock your kayak anytime during your rental
• Find nearby rental locations on an interactive map

• Digital waiver signing built right into the app
• Get directions to any rental location

How it works:
1. Find a Schack's Yaks location near you
2. Scan the QR code on the kayak lock
3. Sign the safety waiver
4. Pay securely and the lock opens automatically
5. Paddle! Lock and unlock anytime during your rental
6. Return the kayak, lock it, and end your rental in the app

Open 6 AM – 9 PM Eastern, seven days a week. Life jackets are provided at all locations.

Schack's Yaks operates kayak rental locations throughout the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area.

### 1.20.1 — 2026-08-14

Waiver updated to authorize post-rental damage charges up to $500 per incident with 48-hour email notice and a reply-to for disputes. Toggle-lock now available during the 5-minute end-of-rental grace window so you can grab a forgotten item after tapping End.

### 1.19.3 — 2026-06-24

If Bluetooth is off or the app doesn't have permission, you'll now see a clear walkthrough before paying — instead of a confusing error after. Tap 'Open Settings' to fix permission instantly; return to the app and we'll detect it on our own. Eliminates the rare case where a customer would tap Try Again repeatedly and never get to start the rental.

### 1.19.2 — 2026-06-23

After you secure the lock, the app now confirms 'Lock secured' on screen and highlights the End Rental button — no more guessing whether your physical action was registered. The End-Rental confirmation also adapts so it doesn't ask you to lock something that's already locked.

Under-the-hood billing reliability improvements — the kayak rental session is now anchored to a single canonical identifier from the very start of the flow, making it impossible for the overage charge at the end of a rental to be billed more than once. No changes to pricing or rental experience.

Improved reliability when ending a rental — if your phone briefly lost connection to the kayak's lock during your trip, the app now reconnects automatically. Plus clearer sign-in error messages so you know exactly what went wrong if a login fails.
