## What is ScoliosisApp?

ScoliosisApp brings posterior back-surface capture, 3D inspection and structured asymmetry analysis into one workflow for trained healthcare professionals and researchers.

Scoliosis can develop during childhood and adolescence. Back-surface asymmetry may prompt families or clinicians to seek further assessment. The app supports the study and documentation of external trunk shape in scoliosis-related research. Surface shape alone cannot establish or exclude scoliosis, and the app does not directly measure spinal curvature.

TECHNIQUE
With appropriate consent and supervision, the subject faces away from the camera with the back visible from shoulders to hips. Capture a natural standing posture or a supervised bending posture when appropriate. Review the capture region, coverage, orientation and quality warnings before interpreting results.

Version 6 can capture a measured LiDAR/RGB-D surface directly on supported iPhone/iPad hardware. Alternatively, import an STL created by a compatible third-party scanning app, as in the original workflow. Third-party scanning is optional. The bundled Case 29 sample allows exploration without a live scan.

SURFACE ASYMMETRY ANALYSIS
AI1, AI2 and AI3 describe differences in surface distances, projected volume-like terms and projected base areas. Values are expressed as percentages; weighted AIglobal combines the components as (AI1 + AI2 + 5*AI3)/7. These are surface indexes, not a diagnosis or a measure of clinical severity.

Explore surface-derived Projected Cobb and exploratory Candidate Cobb estimates, OSAI-R static analysis and dOSAI neutral/bending comparisons. Same-subject tools include source and session checks. Technical quality indicators describe geometry, orientation and calibration limits; they are not diagnostic confidence or proof of clinical accuracy.

CAPTURE, INSPECT AND PROCESS
- Guided recognition with Apple Vision and selectable MediaPipe options.
- Spine Lock, a bounded live measured mesh and protected Final Capture.
- Interactive mesh review and PCA orientation inspection.
- STL, USD, USDA, USDC and USDZ import where supported.
- Unit correction, orientation, cropping, component selection, depth trimming, optional smoothing and reprocessing.
- Explicit selection of the live, imported or sample source for calculation.

DOCUMENT AND EXPORT
Inspect external trunk shape, document surface measurements and compare compatible scans for research review. Export supported meshes, measurements and quality reports through the device's sharing tools. Available files depend on the selected source and recorded data; comparison changes are not validated measures of disease progression or treatment response.

The original sample, STL analysis, PCA inspection, core indexes, TXT reporting and four regression routes remain available. Version 6 corrects AI1 normalization, so results may differ from version 1.

REQUIREMENTS
Requires iOS/iPadOS 26.0 or later. Live metric capture requires ARKit sceneDepth or smoothedSceneDepth on compatible hardware; an ordinary camera alone does not provide this workflow. Sample and compatible file analysis do not require LiDAR.

IMPORTANT MEDICAL INFORMATION
ScoliosisApp is for technical and investigational review, not diagnosis, screening or treatment decisions. It does not replace clinical examination, radiographs, radiographic Cobb-angle measurement or professional judgment. Results can be incomplete or inaccurate; independent clinical validation has not been established. Seek a doctor's advice before medical decisions. Never change or delay care, or decide to omit an X-ray, based on an app output.

Processing runs on device. Optional nearby pairing and user-selected sharing can transfer data off-device. Obtain permission before capture and protect scans and exports as potentially sensitive information.

PRESERVED AND CORRECTED
The bundled Case 29 sample, STL analysis, PCA inspection, AI1/AI2/AI3, weighted AIglobal, TXT reporting and four original regression routes remain available. AI1 normalization is corrected; results may differ from version 1. Projected Cobb retains the original AIglobal regression and is a surface-derived estimate.

Requires iOS/iPadOS 26.0 or later. Live metric capture requires compatible ARKit scene-depth hardware. Sample and compatible imported-file analysis remain available without LiDAR.
