### 5/5 — Scrap Paper is My Digital Security Blanket

*2025-01-20*

There is absolutely no question that I use Scrap Paper significantly more than any of my other apps. I write quick notes, shopping lists, notes for research . . . all the things that I can file later.

If you're on the fence about purchasing Scrap Paper & not sure you'll use it, keep track of how many times you stop & grab paper to write a note. It will help you decide if Scrap Paper is worth it.

DISCLAIMER: No developers were harmed in the making of this review, & yes, I used Scrap Paper to write the draft.

### 5/5 — Really, really great

*2024-11-28*

Scrap Paper is GREAT. Minimal, simple, one click to access, one click to go away, and — the kicker — flawless, instantaneous MacOS/iOS sync. And the one and only time I've had to contact the dev, the reply was immediate. This is one of those indy apps I've come to rely on for absolutely basic routines. [EDIT several, maybe many months later: this app remains one of my most-used and most-loved. 🎩 off to the dev!]

### 5/5 — Best 2.99 I've ever spent on an app

*2024-11-17, version 1.5.4*

Great app. It works extremly well.

### 5/5 — A huge online stress reliever. Easy to use.

*2024-09-11*

I think this app is perfectly executed by the developer. It’s extremely useful, has the ideal set of features, and is super easy to use because it’s totally obvious how to use it no matter how forgetful you are. If you’re like me you find that the increasing complexity of being online requires filling out text messages, emails, social media, physicians wellness sites, drop down boxes, educational sites, comments sections, etc. etc. with information that you want to be effectively written so that it’s understood correctly by the recipient. It’s easy make costly, harmful or hurtful mistakes when trying to get your written point across in so many different situations. This app is your sloppy copy to work out the bugs and thoughtfully read what you’re going to say before rushing to hit the submit button on the target app. 1) Type it on the Scrap Paper first. (Set it side by side with the target app if you want to go back and forth). 2) Fix your mistakes on the Scrap Paper 3) Share it directly into text messages, emails, other apps, etc Or: Cut it and paste it where you need it In settings you can change font, font size, font color, background color, sync to your devices I’m really happy with it. It does relieve the stress of trying to create effective communication online.

### 5/5 — Best Floating Notes App

*2024-09-02*

The ultimate scratch pad for macOS and iOS. On the Mac it lives in the menu bar and can be brought to the front with a hotkey, giving you the same functionality as Raycast's floating note. You can choose the text and background colors , as well as the font. You have the discretion to keep the open window on top of all other apps (recommended). When not in use, you just close the window and it keeps the content safe. You can export the text via the share sheet and because it's text, you have access to tools like spelling and grammar, search and replace and even text to speech. You can even keep Scrap Paper synced between Macs and iOS with iCloud. I use the app a dozen or more times a day.

### 5/5 — Love it !

*2024-08-15, version 1.5.4*

It works perfectly between all devices.

### 5/5 — Would love multiple different “pages”

*2024-08-02, version 1.5.2*

I think this is such a great app. Would be even better to have multiple notes at a time for each different topic.

### 5/5 — Simple and Useful

*2024-07-05*

Simple and Useful

### 5/5 — Love it, just wish it had one thing

*2024-06-28, version 1.5*

Find the blinking cursor a little distracting when doing other things with it pinned above all apps. Is there an option to have the cursor stay solid? If not, that would be a very welcom options. Thanks

### 5/5 — I've never left a review on an app this quick before

*2024-06-19, version 1.5*

Yes. YES. YES!!!!

Flawless. I had been using the Evernote app that did something similar but it was so obnoxious with the constant "We updated your software" and "buy now" popups.

This is so simple. So clean. 6/5

### 4/5 — iOS User font

*2024-05-24*

iOS 앱은 폰트의 크기만 설정 가능합니다. 사용자 폰트를 지정하여 사용할 수 있게 되길 바랍니다.

### 4/5 — solid

*2024-05-02, version 1.4.2*

x

### 5/5 — I'd be lost without it

*2024-02-09, version 1.4.1*

This is the perfect place to store thoughts as your writing, or to paste things before you move them to a document. It's so simple and easy to use, and I don't know what I did before I found this app. Absolutly love it!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Synchonisiert sich nicht!

*2025-01-11*

Unzureichende Anleitung nach der Instalation…..
…nicht auf Geräten möglich?

**Developer response:** Es tut uns leid.

### 1/5 — Doesnt Work

*2021-10-15, version 1.2*

Doesnt open for me... the app icon does nothing and neither does the menu bar icon.

### 2/5 — Bad after MacOS update?

*2024-08-29, version 1.5.4*

Worked great till recent MacOS update. Icon has disappeared from Menu Bar and synching to iOS iPhone no longer occurs. Otherwise seems ok. Help please.

### 3/5 — Frustrated by sudden price in Apple School Manager

*2023-10-20*

We've been using this app in our organization for years, and it's always been free. In the last few months, a cost has been added, so I can't deploy it for our newest staff members.

Scrap Paper is super convenient, and I would probably pay for it personally to keep deploying it to new staff if it was possible for me to do so, but we have managed Apple IDs and devices, and it's just not worth the red tape and paperwork Legal will throw at us if we ask to purchase it through Apple School Manager. It's convenient, but it's not crucial, so we can't justify the expense.

It's a shame. This was a super handy little app. It would be awesome if it could be free for Schools, as I know several of our 40 staff members wound up adding it to their personal devices after using it on the work devices I set up and deployed for them. I don't have a way to advertise it to them now. Womp womp.

**Developer response:** We're running a small business. Scrap Paper is offered at a low one-time charge - no subscription, no recurring fees, no ads, no add-ons. Reduced pricing is available on Apple School Manager for volume purchases.

### 3/5 — Needs text formatting!

*2020-01-24*

This app would be perfect if it supported rich text. Really need bold, italic and bullet lists.

**Developer response:** We decided to stick to plain text for simplicity! The majority of our users loves this.

### 4/5 — 제가 찾던 메모지^^

*2026-01-31*

매일 쓰는 메모지… 간편하고, 씽크 잘되고, 너무 좋습니다.^^

### 4/5 — MacOS 26

*2025-09-16, version 1.5.7*

Problems on Mac with latest update. It doesn’t stay in the menu bar.I’ve tried deleting it and reinstalling. Goes away after reboot most of the time

### 4/5 — 요청사항

*2025-06-06*

1. How to control Font size ?
2. Shortcut key update please [ start scrap paper etc…]

### 4/5 — Solid App, but Font Issues

*2025-01-18*

This is an excellent app that does pretty much exactly as advertised. One problem, particularly with the iOS and iPadOS versions of this app, is that it is essentially impossible to install your own fonts. Scrap Paper requires that a font be in the “My Fonts” section of the iOS Settings – but it is virtually impossible to install a font in “My Fonts”. Other apps, meanwhile, allow for the immediate use of fonts for which configuration profiles have been installed (a much easier task to perform). The inability to add your own fonts in the iOS and iPadOS versions detracts from the customizability of the app. The lack of font congruency has been a particular point of irritation for me, and I believe that allowing fonts that have configuration profiles installed (like other apps, like Goodnotes, do), rather than allowing fonts that are in the “My Fonts” section of the Settings, is a very simple change that much more easily enables me to personalize the app.

This app is generally very reliable, and I am certainly thinking about recommending it to friends and family; making it easier to add one’s own fonts would be the final thing that pushes my rating from four stars to five, though.

### 4/5 — The perfect quick syned text tool.

*2024-10-16, version 1.5.4*

I keep scrap paper avalble with a hot key and it's the instant synced location for the quick notes and thoughts I need to get written down.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Simple and Clean, can be better at window switching

*2026-03-29*

I’m using it for some time now, clean and functional, no unnecessary functions, only issue is the window switching won’t function with this which is a pain when you are working with text as a scratchpad copying to and forth

### 5/5 — Klasse

*2025-12-26*

Funktioniert einwandfrei. Simpel ohne Schnick Schnack.

### 5/5 — Parfait

*2025-11-01*

Loin devant toutes les To do list compliquées. Synchronisation parfaite partout y compris sur mon iPhone. Bravo !

### 5/5 — Scrap Paper Works Great

*2025-08-01, version 1.5.7*

This is the app that I did not know I needed. I found this app by accident and I'm glad I did. This app launches quickly and gives me a place to jot down some quick information for future reference. I am having a few issues with older iPads running iPadOS 16.7.11 and I have informed the developer. All of my newer iOS devices running iOS 18.6 work without error. My thanks to the developer for an excellent app that is simple and useful.

### 5/5 — Really nice and simple!

*2025-06-03, version 1.5.6*

I love this. I was using Stickies.app all the time, but didn’t really like that. This is great plus the iCloud sync makes it a must-have!

### 5/5 — Excellent on many levels

*2025-04-23, version 1.5.4*

Thank you Eric!

### 5/5 — much better than raycast notes

*2025-03-04*

i had been an avid user of raycast notes for a while…. UNTIL THEY RUINED IT. added a whole bunch of features i didn’t need which made it super laggy to use and it would take multiple seconds to boot up when all i needed was to take a quick note. THANK YOU for making this and making it so lightweight this is exactly what i’m looking for :)

### 5/5 — Absolutely perfect

*2025-02-27, version 1.5.4*

I wanted ultra simple and no formatting. And no BLOAT. So many apps cram far too many features one doesn’t need, not this one. This app delivers! Cannot live without this simple and effective app.

### 5/5 — (Almost) Perfect

*2025-01-24*

This is essentially a super enhanced version of the classic Tyke.app, and as such it is almost perfect!

Just two things:

I wished the "Keep in Front" toggle would be easier to access. It lives in the menu, and since this isn't a regular menu, I cannot assign a shortcut via the system. So please give this important toggle its own button in the toolbar (there's plenty of space; have a look at the "Pin" button of the 'Sticky Notepad' MAS app), and provide a shortcut (for example, ⌃⌘F). A double click on the toolbar, instead of a dedicated button, could be an option too.

I know I could ⌘M minimize the window instead, to quickly get it out of way, but this isn't (exactly) the same.

The other thing: It would be very convenient to have quick access to the font size, e.g. via the usual ⌘- and ⌘= shortcuts, like in Stickies. This should work for the whole content without having to select any text, since we are in plaintext mode.

Oh, and please never ever make this app a Rich Text app; single-note plaintext is exactly what is needed. For formatted text, there are more than enough notes/stickies apps available.

Thank you for developing this app!
