## What is Script Smith?

Scriptsmith is the pre-production studio for short video. Write your script, see if it actually fits the slot, lock your opener, and plan the shoot before you hit record. Everything works offline, with no account, no subscription, and no ads.

The timing engine estimates how long your script takes to say at your chosen speaking pace and tells you whether it fits your target length. Write in beats such as Hook, Context, Value, Payoff, and Call to Action so you can see the shape of the video at a glance.

Production Pack, new in 1.4, turns a draft into a shoot-readiness report. It checks delivery text, runtime fit, clarity score, hook status, hook variants, shot-list progress, and pipeline status, then exports a plain-text handoff you can save or share before filming.

Scriptsmith also includes 83 hook formulas, 23 proven formats, hook variants, idea vault, scrolling teleprompter, beat-paced rehearsal, shot list, clarity score, clarity report export, pipeline stats, craft guides, frameworks, and glossary.

Scriptsmith runs entirely on your device. Your scripts never leave your phone. No account, no network, no tracking, and no in-app purchases.

An independent creator tool, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any social platform or app. Runtime and clarity figures are estimates and will vary with your delivery.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4 — 2026-06-30

Version 1.4 adds Production Pack export: a shoot-readiness report that checks timing, clarity, hook, hook variants, shot-list progress, and pipeline status, then generates a clean text handoff before filming.

### 1.3 — 2026-06-24

What's New in Scriptsmith 1.3

Repeated-word detection - The Clarity Score now flags content words you've used too many times in a short script. In an 80-word video, repeating the same word three or more times sounds monotonous on camera - listeners notice the echo even when you, the writer, don't. Expand the Clarity Score panel to see exactly which words are over-used, how many times they appear, and a one-line fix. The score is adjusted accordingly, and the new "Repeated word" flag appears in the Clarity Report export.

Hook Variants - A new "Hook variants" button appears in the Beat editor whenever your script has a hook beat. Tap it to write up to 3 alternate hook texts alongside the active one - without duplicating the entire script. Each variant stores its own text and an optional label (e.g. "The bold one"). Tapping "Use this" on any variant swaps it into the active hook non-destructively: the current hook text slides into the variant slot so you can always switch back. A badge on the button shows how many variants you've written at a glance.

Pipeline stats card - The Scripts list now shows a compact pipeline summary card when you have two or more scripts: a status breakdown (Idea / Scripted / Filming / Posted) with colored indicators, a progress bar for how many scripts you've posted, and the total estimated filming runtime of all scripted-but-not-yet-filmed scripts - useful when planning a batch shoot.

Two new frameworks - "Vary Your Words" (the threshold rule for content-word repetition in short video) and "Write Three Hooks" (why you should draft multiple openers and pick the best) are added to the Frameworks quick-reference in the Learn tab.

Expanded guide - "Write to Be Said" in the Learn tab now includes a new section on word repetition: what it is, why it matters more on camera than on the page, and three concrete strategies for varying your language.

Two new glossary terms - "Hook variant" and "Word repetition" are added to the glossary in the Learn tab.

### 1.2 — 2026-06-15

What's New in Scriptsmith 1.2

Clarity Score — A new 0–100 delivery score appears in the Write tab, below the pacing breakdown. It analyses your script for the four things that trip creators up on camera: sentences over 20 words, passive-voice constructions, filler words (basically, literally, kind of…), and hard-to-pronounce words. Expand the panel to see each issue flagged by name, with the exact snippet and a one-line fix. The score also appears at a glance in the script list so you know which drafts are ready to film before you open them.

Clarity Report export — A new "Clarity report" export mode gives you the full analysis as shareable plain text: score, sentence count, issue list, and every flag. Copy it to the clipboard or share via the iOS share sheet.

Three new frameworks — "Short Sentences Win," "Active Voice Only," and "Cut the Fillers" are added to the Frameworks quick-reference in the Learn tab.

New guide: Write to Be Said — A new guide in the Learn tab explains what the Clarity Score measures, how each issue category affects delivery, and how to improve your score before you film.

### 1.1 — 2026-06-14

What's New in Scriptsmith 1.1

Idea Vault — Capture a concept the moment it hits you: a working title, a one-liner, and an optional format tag. Browse your backlog and promote any idea into a full script in one tap. Your ideas no longer get lost between writing sessions.

Scrolling Teleprompter — A new "Prompt" tab in the script editor auto-scrolls your delivery text at your speaking pace. Adjust font size and speed while it's running. Optional mirror flip for reflection rigs. Tap to pause; controls auto-hide so your script fills the screen.

Script Export — Share any script in three plain-text formats: labelled (beat headings included), clean delivery text (words only — paste straight into any teleprompter app), or a plain-text shot list. Copy to clipboard or send via the iOS share sheet.
