### 2/5 — Audio never loaded

*2026-07-09, version 6.0.3*

Audio never loaded

### 2/5 — Character voice quality AWFUL

*2026-07-07, version 6.0.3*

Very computer sounding characters. No authenticity if you’re an actor and looking for something that sounds remotely realistic.

### 3/5 — Not great for auditions

*2026-06-30*

Scriptation is great for working with final scripts. And I do that a lot. Tons of great features. But I can never really get it to work properly for auditions. I think the markups on the sides that casting directors add make it hard for the program to process. As an actor we do way more auditions than actual work days so it’s disappointing.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the thoughtful feedback. We’re actively working to improve Scriptation for actors, especially around auditions.
You’re right that many audition sides are modified before they get to you in ways that can make them harder for any PDF annotation app to read properly. Sometimes extra text or graphics are added in the margins, and sometimes the PDF is flattened as a “security” setting, which removes the readable text layer apps rely on.
We’re working through options on our end to make these files more usable in Scriptation. But ultimately, the best fix is for casting offices and distributors to send non-flattened PDFs that don’t get in the way of an actor’s process. We’d recommend letting Breakdown Services, or any casting distributor sending flattened sides, know that this creates real workflow issues for actors, which we’re sure is not their intent.

### 2/5 — Bugs

*2026-06-13, version 6.0.1*

When I save a file, previous elements reappear. Exporting specific layers doesn’t work. I’m using a 30 day free trail of Pro. It doesn’t inspire me to want to buy it. The mistakes are costing me time I don’t have.

### 5/5 — Fantastic app that keeps improving

*2026-04-21, version 5.1.15*

Scriptation has become an essential tool for anyone working with scripts in television, film or theatre production. It takes what was once a messy, paper-heavy process of revisions, notes and version tracking, and turns it into something intuitive, fast and genuinely efficient. The automatic transfer of annotations between new drafts is a standout feature, saving huge amounts of time and eliminating the frustration of having to re-mark pages after every script update. For busy production environments, that alone makes it invaluable.

What also sets Scriptation apart is how clearly it has been designed by people who understand real production workflows. It is practical, reliable and easy to integrate into day-to-day working life, whether you are in the office, on set or travelling. The interface is clean, the collaboration features are strong, and it helps teams stay organised under pressure. In an industry where time is always short and changes are constant, it is one of those rare apps that genuinely makes the job easier.

### 5/5 — Production Sound Mixer

*2026-04-08, version 5.1.15*

Love it and wouldn’t want to work without it.

### 5/5 — Game changer

*2026-04-07, version 5.1.15*

Scriptation has made a huge difference in my workflow over the past few years. It’s not just having a copy of the script where I can make notes. And it’s not just being able to add photos, shot idea and sketches.

It’s being able to keep all those things in the right place whenever the script is updated. And it’s the excellent training videos, seminars, and responsive support, the last of which is hugely important to me when I’m working.

New layer features, like scene dividers and 8th page counts are super helpful. Tagging is a powerful tool along with generating reports. And the integrations with other software keep making Scriptation even more useful.

This is must-have software and a must-have subscription for anyone working creatively in professional film and television.

### 4/5 — Moving files simplified

*2026-04-06*

Love this app!! However, would like to see drag and drop ability for file moves instead of the required move option that takes the user back to the beginning of the file path. This process takes a long time vs. Drag and drop like in PDF Expert

### 4/5 — Great Customer Service and App

*2026-04-01, version 5.1.14*

The team is very responsive and hands on helping users getting up to speed. A very useful tool on set - something that will be common place in my workflow going forward!

### 3/5 — Constant Freezing + Lag

*2026-02-26, version 5.1.12*

I genuinely love the layout, highlights, and easy importing of any pdf files. It’s just whenever I use the app it keeps lagging or freezing, disrupting workflow and losing time for calculations. This happens in both good and bad connection.

If that was fixed, would keep using.

### 5/5 — Essential

*2026-01-27, version 5.1.12*

Can not imagine living without this app. Perfect for any screenwriter. I'm a WGA member and there is no better software.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Waste of money

*2026-08-04*

Worthless, nothing natural

**Developer response:** We're sorry to hear Scriptation fell short for you. If it's the voices that felt unnatural, those are likely the standard on-device voices. Playback also includes AI voices that are much more realistic and emotive, and they're worth a try. And if cost is the concern, reach out via Settings > Contact Us and we'll see what we can do.

### 1/5 — Playback Doesn't Work

*2026-07-23, version 6.0.4*

It won't even play the sample voices. It says "Loading Please Wait" when doing so. I'm connected to the internet, fast speed, and Macbook. I've done everything to get Playback to work but it's just stuck. Restart doesn't work either.
the only reason I got this app is to listen to my screenplay.

### 1/5 — Needs to be fixed

*2026-07-15, version 6.0.4*

Buggy as hell and does not operate well. The ai voice is not trained and the app constantly crashes. Feeling like I wasted money I can’t get back now

### 1/5 — Replace PDF

*2026-06-28, version 6.0.3*

I don’t understand why any changes to the pdf script file delete all my tags in Scriptation

### 1/5 — Bad voices

*2026-05-12, version 5.1.16*

Voices to robotic

### 1/5 — Needs to be fixed

*2026-02-19, version 5.1.12*

Buggy as hell and does not operate well. The ai voice is not trained and the app constantly crashes. Feeling like I wasted money I can’t get back now

### 1/5 — Paid software with ads

*2026-02-03, version 5.1.12*

Programmed bugged out to crash. Close my script. Reload to show me an ad for Frankenstein. Paid software mind you.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2026-01-12, version 5.1.10*

I used to love this app. Long ago I PAID for the app in its infancy. Now updates have systematically taken away features that were in that paid version, forcing me to have to pay for their paid subscription plan. No Thanks

### 1/5 — Disappearing Act.

*2026-01-10*

Paid for a full subscription. Still active but disappeared on my iPad. Didn’t restore and now have lost loads of work. Thanks for nothing.

### 1/5 — Too much money

*2025-12-30, version 5.1.9*

At first I got this app to just have fun and make a movie with my friends but I found out it was 99.99$! That’s just too much money

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Industry standard for a reason

*2026-08-13*

Make notes, intelligently transfer them across versions: it’s worth the subscription price for that function alone. Honestly I’m not sure how useful the AI voices are, but besides that the features keep getting better, and the support is next level.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for the great review! Really glad the app is earning its keep in your workflow, and our support team will be thrilled to see that. Lots more coming down the pipeline!

### 5/5 — Very pleasing first impressions

*2026-07-27, version 6.0.4*

Having only used the app for a week, I have found it very user friendly and easy to navigate, making script adjustments on the fly and inserting cue notes for theatre audio cues. I would also commend the customer service team, as I’m in the UK the response time wasn’t instant and came during the night, but it was more than helpful and very friendly!

### 5/5 — Thank You

*2026-06-25, version 6.0.3*

Preparing for a gig is a lot more efficient and legit fun because of Scriptation.

### 5/5 — From Murder to Making Out - Prep IS Possible

*2026-06-25*

Started using Scriptation on HTGAWM to years later on SLCG, with multiple scripts and script revisions a day/night or minutes before departmental meetings, to organizing cast photos, tech scout notes, floor plans, sides, maps, memos and Callsheets, Scriptation has made having a digital folder, like having a 3 inch binder and filing system. Everything‘s accessible in one place. And if I find myself without my iPad, I can still see all my notes on the Iphone app version. Fantastic! It makes the seemingly impossible tasks of staying prepared possible. Thanks SCRIPTATION!

### 5/5 — Changed my life

*2026-06-23, version 6.0.2*

There are not enough words to describe how helpful this app is to me as an actor/director/producer/writer

### 5/5 — Always Helpful

*2026-06-19*

No matter how late in the day (or night), or how small (or silly) the question might be, these guys are quick to respond and always extremely helpful; with results delivered almost immediately. Fantastic App. The whole experience is an enhancement of my working life.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2026-06-10*

Love it

### 5/5 — The annotation transfer across revisions is magic!

*2026-06-10*

The app has so many great features, but above all, the annotations transfer that passes along each of my doodles and highlights from revision to revision, is by far the most critical, important and most welcome feature. *Huge* time saver.

### 5/5 — Thoughtful, Helpful, Convenient

*2026-06-10, version 6.0.1*

This is a very useful program that can be used by many departments, not just one or the other. While, yes, there are some features/actions that I wish I could do but what I like about the creators is that they listen to the suggestions and are always improving the program because they want this to be as user friendly as possible and to meet our needs and then some. The creators are also very quick to respond to your emails - I had an issue, I’m starting my movie tomorrow, they immediately responded and did not stop until we fixed the problem.

### 5/5 — Great program

*2026-06-01*

Makes working with production documents a breeze
