## What is Scrub?

Scrub finds and removes personal information from your photos and PDFs, entirely on your iPhone, so you can safely share files with cloud AI tools, support agents, or anyone else.

Nothing ever leaves your device. There is no upload, no account, no sign-in and no telemetry. Detection and redaction both run on the phone, so there's nothing to leak, sell, or subpoena.

REAL REDACTION, NOT A BLACK RECTANGLE

Most "redaction" just draws a box on top of the data, and anyone can copy the data out or peel the box off later. Scrub destroys the pixels underneath. Once you save, the hidden text, face, or barcode is gone for good and can't be recovered from the new file.

Choose your style:
• Solid bars: a clean, true pixel burn
• Blur: a Gaussian blur over the region
• Pixelate: mosaic it out

WHAT IT DETECTS

• Names and street addresses, found automatically by on-device AI and never uploaded
• Emails, phone numbers, card and account numbers, read by on-device OCR
• Faces
• Barcodes and QR codes
• Region-specific identifiers for the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand: national and tax IDs, postal codes, and more, chosen automatically by your device region
• Your own custom terms: add a nickname, employer, or account label for extra certainty on top of automatic detection

YOU'RE IN CONTROL

Detections appear as red boxes right on the image. Tap to review each one, add anything Scrub missed, remove anything you want to keep, then redact. Scrub never touches the original file; it always saves a new "-scrubbed" copy.

• Pinch to zoom, drag to pan
• Double-tap to add a detection by hand
• Accept all or review one by one
• Batch up to 10 files in a single pass

METADATA, GONE TOO

Photos carry hidden EXIF data: GPS location, device, timestamps. PDFs carry author and app metadata. Scrub strips it from the output, irreversibly.

PRIVACY BY DESIGN

You can only really trust a privacy claim if the app never phones home, so Scrub doesn't. No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporters. Your custom terms list stays on your device, where you can see it and delete it at any time. We have nothing to hand over, because we never collect anything.

SUBSCRIPTION

Scrub is free to use, with 3 saved files every 7 days. Scrub Unlimited removes that limit, so you can redact and save as many photos and PDFs as you like.

• Scrub Unlimited (Monthly): US$3.99 per month
• Scrub Unlimited (Annual): US$34.99 per year

Prices are in USD and may vary by region. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at purchase. A subscription renews automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; you can manage or cancel it anytime in your Apple Account settings. There is no free trial.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.4 — 2026-08-04

• Clearer instructions in File Info. The screen said to tap "Redact". It now
names Save and Share, which is where that step actually happens.

### 1.1.3 — 2026-07-28

- Detection is better on lab reports, medical forms, and statements. Scrub now picks up labeled IDs (MRN, member ID, accession, policy), dates of birth, ITINs, and full address lines with city, state, and postal code. Find a name once and it gets marked everywhere else in the document. National IDs from the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada are caught even when a scan misreads a digit, and redaction bars now cover the value only, so you can still read the field label. On device, as always.

- Fixed: zoom in on a page, tap to add a redaction box by hand, and the box now lands where you tapped. It used to show up off screen, so you had to zoom back out to go find it.

- Clearer PDF file info. Apple's PDF engine rewrites a PDF's Producer and date fields with generic values every time the file is saved, so the originals never survive. Those fields are now labeled "Replaced on save" instead of showing a removal switch that could not stick.

### 1.1.2 — 2026-07-25

• United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Scrub now recognizes local personal details automatically, following your iPhone's region — National Insurance, NHS and UTR numbers in the UK; Tax File Number, Medicare, ABN and Healthcare Identifiers in Australia; IRD and NHI numbers in New Zealand — along with local phone numbers, postcodes, addresses and bank details.

### 1.1.1 — 2026-07-22

• Stronger blur and pixelation. Both styles now remove text far more thoroughly, at every strength setting — the slider changes how a redaction looks, never how well it hides.

• Large drawings and plans. Architectural, engineering and other oversized pages used to scan very slowly and could close the app partway through. They now scan reliably, and much faster.

• Smoother review. Switching between Bars, Blur and Pixelate — and dragging the strength slider — no longer freeze the screen.

• As always, everything happens on your iPhone. Nothing you scan ever leaves the device.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-07-19

Keep working while Scrub finishes the job
Scans and saves now continue in the background — switch to another app and Scrub keeps processing your files, with live progress shown by iOS. Everything still happens entirely on your device.

Smarter name & address detection
Scrub now uses AI to spot names and street addresses that don't follow a fixed pattern. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence this uses Apple's built-in on-device models. On other devices, Scrub downloads a small detection model once (hosted by Apple) and runs it locally from then on.

Your privacy, unchanged
All detection and redaction still happens entirely on your device. Nothing you open in Scrub — no files, no text, no results — is ever uploaded. The only download is the model itself, and that's one-way: from Apple's servers to your phone.
