It does have a few quirks I wish that they’d straighten out, mostly for the online play, getting a game started requires coordination so your friends are online at the same time, even if you’re setting the game up for come and go play with a 30 day limit. There are also seemingly no push notifications when it’s your turn. Minor nuisances but they could improve quality of life. A bigger more confusing thing is that when someone ends those style games the game just vanishes, no way to see final moves or final scores. Who won? Only the player who made the final move may know. ### 3/5 — Needs some modifications *2026-01-09, version 2.1.10* I like scythe and the app is good at allowing me to play with friends not in the area. Extra gameplay means I’ve learned a lot more about the game, which is very nice. However: Sometimes if I’m playing a play-and-go game, I’ll do my move, click “end turn” and then close the app (because of the menu thing: it never works to tab back in!) and it won’t transmit my completed turn to the server? Then I’m just losing time?? I can’t invite my buddies if they’re offline, and the in-the-process game will sometimes close out if I exit the app to text them to get online so I can invite them. Also, when and how the back button can be used is deeply confusing, especially in online games. There should be an option to allow you to undo your current turn. There is also no way to start game with friends that aren’t logged in and online. Very annoying to have to sync up a time to both open the app and get online to start a game. ### 4/5 — Game has certain steps to load *2025-07-28, version 2.1.0* I originally gave this game a one star because it couldn’t even load up the menu, but it turns out that you just have to make sure that you’re connected to your game’s center with an account with the same email as the one in the App Store. Than you have to uninstall the game and then reinstall it. If you hear music while it’s loading, it should be working. ### 4/5 — Love the game - slight improvements *2025-06-27, version 2.1.0* Have loved the board game and now thrilled to play on my phone as well. A couple of suggestion I’d love to see implemented. -The app seems more suited for “play and stay” games. I play a mostly “play and go” games. If I could leave a “play and go” game invite “open” while I left the app, I would end up playing more games. It’s hard to find matches when I have to keep the app open and live. -On the note of “play and go” games, it seems there are no push notifications for when it is your turn. This would make the “play and go” games much more playable. -For “play and stay” games I recognize the need to avoid “undo” moves. For “play and go” games with much more time, having undo enabled would be very nice. -I do appreciate the graphics(the isometric view like a live over the table board). There are times it can make it hard to see the simple details. Adding a toggle on the settings to keep the general simple detailing and be able to zoom in just top down view would be handy (just like when the screen is fully zoomed out, but being able to zoom in on that view). All in all, love the game and this is enabling me to keep playing it on the daily, so thank you for all your work, much appreciated! ### 2/5 — Asynchronous multiplayer a letdown *2025-04-07, version 2.1.0* Will 2-star until the ability to asynchronously create a MP game and not need everyone online at the same time is a thing. Good multiplayer would allow this game to soar. It's rather annoying. I don't expect much from Asmodee to begin with as they abandon games after a period of time (Splendor, for ex) anyway. Playing with family across the globe. ### 5/5 — Fantastic adaptation *2024-11-07, version 2.1.0* I have the physical copy of this game, but had never really played it. The rules are a bit daunting at first, especially if you don’t have anyone who already plays to show you. This is absolutely the best method to learn the game. At this price it’s a steal. This game includes a tutorial composed of 11 concise lessons, each detailing an aspect of play. It also includes an offline mode with up to 3 bots of user specified difficulty levels. Scythe is basically Risk and Catan with some light narrative D&D encounter/choice/resolution scenarios. I would call it a post-war game. The world is beautiful and well crafted. No one is the bad guy (you don’t even HAVE to attack your opponent to win). You can play how you feel your character/country would play, or just how you feel in the moment. All of this is so very well translated to the digital version. I would be shocked if Knights of Unity weren’t big fans prior to developing this digital version. If you’re curious about Scythe, get it. If you have Scythe and want a quick method to play even without friends, get it. If you want to practice specific board/mat combinations, get it. I have it on the iPad and on my Pixel phone and both are identical and fantastic (albeit iPad is bigger/prettier). Just to clear up a couple things other reviewers mention: - You can turn on painted models by selecting Extras and then Paintshop. - Offline mode DOES work in airplane mode. You have to load the app while connected to the internet, but once it’s loaded you can leave it on in the background and it will play as normal offline mode in airplane mode. This appears to be a symptom of Apple’s stupid Game Center, not the Scythe game specifically. My Pixel doesn’t have this issue, it loads from fully closed in airplane mode, no problem. It took all of 5 minutes to figure this out, but - yeah - tank an app’s review over it. 🙄 ### 5/5 — Tipp *2024-08-14* Insgesamt ein sehr gutes Spiel wie auch das Brettspiel. Noch ein kleiner Tipp, die ganzen Leute die sich über den ewigen lade Screen beschweren, mann muss am Anfang 2 Sekunden oder so mit dem Internet verbunden sein damit man in das spiel kommt und dann auch offline spielen kann. Die Kommentare sind alle nicht aktuell ich hab ein IPhone 15 pro Max mit der neusten Version und hab keins der beschriebenen Probleme. Ich würde mich auf die Erweiterung freuen wenn die noch dazu kommen würde. Es ist leider etwas umständlich das Spiel mit den ganzen Erweiterungen mit auf Reisen zu nehmen, darum ist App recht praktisch.
