Plus when I updated, my entire list of “For Later” books that I had built over several years was wiped out and is no longer available on the website either. If you have the previous version and it still works, recommend you do not upgrade. ### 2/5 — San Diego 2026: spending money on things just to make them worse *2026-07-31* Version 2.0 of app might be the worst thing the library has ever done. The landing screen is a jumble of random things that apparently wants to push events and social media. It takes too many steps to get to my holds, and where did my lists go? I see where they’re supposed to be, but there’s nothing there. If I change the layout of the landing screen to simply it, there are two links to My Account. Why? Did anyone get any user feedback before launching this update? ### 3/5 — Good but switching cards doesn’t work *2025-12-13* If you have two cards (one family member each), switching between the cards fails as follows: 1) member name is wrong, it doesn’t change and doesn’t fix when you switch 2) borrowing history also doesn’t change ### 3/5 — Okay app *2024-01-30* It worked fine for me in the beginning until it started logging me out continually. I ordered 16 books and went to get them to find only 4 left. Whenever I try to log in it says error even though everything is correct and it won’t let me change my password. Be prepared to take a while to set this up if you get this app. ### 3/5 — Fix the rotation *2023-04-14* On an iPad the app must be used in portrait orientation, vertical. That is fine for an iPhone, but clumsy on a iPad that you are holding in your lap. You need to fix it so that the app rotates with the device, then I would give it 5 stars. Otherwise I very much like the app on both my iPad and iPhon. With my iPhone I use it to check out books at Library ### 1/5 — kept crashing *2021-07-25, version 1.3.3* kept crashing my phone everytime i went into the app. ### 2/5 — Fix the orientation *2021-05-26, version 1.3.3* When using on a iPad the app forces you into portrait orientation, it is clumsy to hold an iPad like that. I suspect it is a boundary bug because it used to work when I first installed and had little or no books on my lists. But now it crashes on Completed (12 listed) or For Future (14 listed). A year with no bug fixes? Really? ### 1/5 — Multiple cards *2019-11-25, version 1.3.3* I have three cards - my two for my children and my own card. There is no way to use the app with multiple cards. This is major oversight. ### 2/5 — Please Fix Bugs! *2019-10-24* I wish I could use all the functions of this app as intended. The app crashes every time I select “For Later” bookshelf. This defeats the purpose of adding items to this list if I can’t look at it later. I also wish the app would sync with the browser version so that I could see the books from here but it just creates separate lists. please fix issues. ### 3/5 — Was working now crashes *2019-09-25* This app was working great, but now it crashes when I try to look at my “for later” shelf as other reviewers have said. Please fix this! I use that feature, or did, quite a bit. ### 2/5 — Needs work *2019-09-22* Hard to believe that “remember me” means that anyone with my phone can check out materials. What about using TouchID? The barcode to check out books is very well hidden under the more button and at the bottom of that page. Should be front and center when I open the app. My guess is that the developers have little or no experience in developing apps. ### 1/5 — Still Not Great *2019-09-08, version 1.3.3* 9/2019- I don’t know what is going on, but ever since they decided to overhaul their library system, the app is worse. It’s hardly useable. Loooooooong load times make it impossible to search for or request books. My review from 2017ish- I live by this app. Since the latest update, it will not let me refine my search. This is crazy! Please fix!!! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Worthless update *2026-08-06* The update to 2.0 has made this app entirely useless. Well-curated shelves of want-to-read books and books read history built over years have disappeared entirely. There is seemingly no way to browse for books available at a given library, by genre, etc. while nothing of significant value has been added. ### 1/5 — “To read” list was wiped out *2026-08-06* I had a very curated list on the previous app. It was the “for later” bookshelf with over 300 books and movies to read and watch. And the library for some insane reason chose not to port over those lists. The usability of this app is totally inferior to the old one. ### 1/5 — New app *2026-08-05* The 2.0 app is terrible. The lists are missing, the main page is a mess, it’s slow and clunky. One of my biggest problems is that I can’t search through my list. I created a new one with a handful of books and I have to click on each book to find out its availability. The old app allowed you to sort by library to see what books from your list were available. Please bring the old app back!! ### 1/5 — Update is terrible *2026-08-05* I don’t understand the update — it’s much harder to use, and what happened to the lists?? I seem to have lost all the lists — For Later, Completed, etc. Heeeelllllppppp ### 1/5 — Horrible update *2026-08-04* I don’t usually write updates, but I felt compelled to. After using the SDPL library for years and creating book collections to remember for later along with a history of all the books I’ve completed and read, I downloaded the (mandatory) update today to find all of my collections and lists completely missing. As an avid reader this was devastating. No news this was happening, no notice, and all my collections completely gone. The UX / UI is also a massive step backwards. It is more confusing, bloated with sections like “featured events” and others I will never use, and books recommended to me in categories I have never checked out from the library or read. Maybe because my entire catalogue of previously read books is now missing. In the wake of so many budget cuts it seriously saddens me to think of how much the SDPL spent on this terrible downgrade to what is called “2.0”. ### 1/5 — Try again *2026-08-04* SDPL to Go 1.0 wasn’t exactly a great experience but 2.0 somehow manages to be worse. ### 1/5 — Worst update ever *2026-08-02* I like SDPL to go old version. ### 1/5 — 2.0 update is terrible *2026-08-02* The new update is terrible. The user interface is clunky and the borrower’s account is difficult to access. All of my previous lists and saved for later books, in addition to my check out / read history are gone. The book search feature is horrible. This update is a disaster. ### 1/5 — What a bunch of uses AI bloat! *2026-08-01* Whoever decided to implement the latest ai enhanced version should be fired. Search is dumber, ux/ui makes less sense, and it looks like the design was generated in sweat shop. Can easily browse available books, but holds on them, look at reviews. Also provides status on books you’ve put on hold and books that are checked out. Has made it very easy for me to check out books I want to read instead of having to either check with a librarian or check shelves in the library. Been utilizing the library way more with this app, makes browsing the selection at the library as easy as shopping online. It needs to be fixed ### 4/5 — Cumbersome Checkout *2017-11-24* An Internet connection should not be required just to display the user's barcode once a "remember me" login has been done. By requiring an Internet connection to check out a book, the patron must stop using the checkout machine, track down a library staff member to get the library's wifi password, log on to the library's wifi, go back to the checkout machine, open the app, and finally check out the book. It's easier and faster just to pull a library card out of your pocket and use it. The app should make things easier and faster, not more complicated.
