I recently noticed the inclusion of an obviously AI-generated icon inside the app (the WSPR icon), which is disappointing because it leads me to believe that at least a portion of the codebase may be vibe coded. Additionally, AI-generated icons look cheap (and this is an expensive application). As a software developer myself (professional - 10 years), this is important because vibe coding can lead to issues such as unmaintainable and/or unreliable software. This app has served me well up until now and I hope it continues to do so. ### 5/5 — Fantastic App with excellent manual *2024-06-19, version 1.9.26* Most apps, even some of the better ones, don’t provide a comprehensive app. This app provides an excellent app. I had some questions regarding connection of the app on my iPad Air to my 9700. All my questions were answered with great clear explanations of the proper setup with my particular model radio. It’s packed with dentures too which enable you to do just about everything you want without additional hardware or software. It’s money very well spent if you own one of the Icom models supported. ### 5/5 — Excellent, needs one addition! *2024-06-10, version 1.9.26* An excellent piece of software. Easy to use and very well designed. Lots of YouTube videos to assist with this application. Needs one more thing to make it a premium experience; JS8CALL really does need to be added! Please, please do try to get this done! ### 5/5 — Excellent *2024-01-22, version 1.9.08* I bought this to help out a friend setting it up remotely. So glad I did. Once connected everything just worked. FT8 from an iPad without wires, Logbook, DX-Cluster and an excellent manual to name but a few of its capabilities. Sometimes the IC-705 doesn’t appear to turn on WiFi even though its displays it has but a toggle on/off fixes it. CW Decoder not as good as FLDIGI but does work however most CW ops use their ears anyway. Yet to try CW via the iPad though. Might have to now buy a Midi adapter and Pryme button just to try them out ! Very nice software Marcus. For my opinion it’s mast have app. Probably next feature what many wants - is adding the voice digital modes like FreeDV. Also how about a FreeData or Winlink client inside smartphone. ### 5/5 — Great app but expensive… *2023-09-16, version 1.8.06* Got to say once I got to grips with this it works brilliantly hence 5 stars. Musste vor der ersten Verbindung die CI-V Cat Adresse bei meinem 705 auf Default zurücksetzen. FT8 ging danach auf Anhieb. Habe mir auch die Handy Version für unterwegs zugelegt. Vielen Dank für dieses recht professionell gemachte Programm, das einen IC-705 deutlich aufwertet. ### 5/5 — Wow! *2023-07-09, version 1.5.02* Having had it for over 12 months I find this app an absolute pleasure to use. Controlling my IC-705 remotely from anywhere comes with ease. I’m particularly enjoying the FT8 mode, with its simple layout and automatic log book entry. The map is great addition and helps visualise what the band is doing. Looking forward to seeing more modes added like SSTV. Love the tools and there are plenty of them. Next step for me is adding a bluetooth mic. There is plenty to enjoy about this app, making Amateur Radio easy. ### 5/5 — Awesome app *2023-06-11, version 1.4.04* Great job on this application. I am using it with an IC-705. I have the radio in my Airstream trailer in the backyard, interfacing with an HOA friendly antenna farm. This app allows me to work it all from inside my home instead. Thanks! ### 5/5 — Wie cool ist das denn😀😀 *2023-03-03* Als SWL ist man es ja gewohnt am Rand mit zu laufen, und dann erfahre ich durch Zufall das es da eine App geben soll mit der ich meinen ICR8600 über mein iPad steuern kann. Sofort runtergeladen, Daten Eingegeben, und unfassbar, alles funktioniert!!! Im Gegensatz zu vielen Programmen die extrem kompliziert zu installieren sind, ging hier alles vollkommen problemlos 👌Diese Software ist jeden € wert !!Ich kann mich nur Bedanken, das Sie bei der Entwicklung der Software auch den ICR 8600, und somit auch die SWLˋs im Blick hatten. Kleine Wünsche sind noch offen! Ich vermisse einen Schnellzugriff auf die Broadcast Bänder! I really hope JS8call and some other modes(RTTY) will be included. Also, I think that 36 for the phone version on top of 49 for this is a bit steep. However, if you are undecided, this is a great app worth the money. Please add more digital - JS8Call and RTTY and give us ipad purchasers a discount on the phone version! ### 5/5 — Great app! Don’t buy. You won’t get a refund either. ### 1/5 — Choppy Audio, freezes up, had to reset my radio. *2023-03-05, version 1.2.01* The audio through the iPad on this application is choppy. If you try to tune around using the panadapter it freezes up and stops responding altogether. The software reset something on my radio that made so that my hand mic no longer transmitted audio when using SSB. I’m sure it’s some setting buried deep in the menus, but I couldn’t find documentation on it anywhere and so had to reset my radio to get my hand mic back. There’s a lot of potential here, but my radio should be returned to working condition after the software is disconnected and I shouldn’t be seeing things freeze up or hearing choppy audio. Overall, this still seems a little bit half baked. If I wanted to fiddle with flakey software, I would have just kept using my Xiegu. ### 1/5 — Connection drops *2022-08-26, version 1.0.17* Ipad no longer stays connected. Constantly drops wifi connection with the rig. At times it requires powering off and on again to reconnect. ### 1/5 — Bit dodgy to link; doesn’t do International CW characters *2022-05-27, version 1.0.10* Took me almost a week to get it to connect and then only direct from radio (IC-705) to iPad. All else now appears to work. At least the regular stuff. . . . But if you work CW in Norwegian, German, Spanish or Italian, you won’t get Å or Ñ out of the CW keyer. And no cyrillic alphabet either. Strange, considering the developer is in Germany. Maybe an update? . . . All in all, appears to be a pretty interesting app for armchair ops. Be interesting to try it on ARRL Field Day. ;-) ### 1/5 — Tut was es soll *2022-04-18* Leider vermisse ich ein Rtty /Psk und Wefax Modul.Oder kostet das in Zukunft extra? Beim Mac ist sie dabei…Leider bietet mir der Programmierer 100 eur per Mail an,wenn ich diese App wieder lösche..Wohl weil ich ihn per Mail gefragt habe ob da mal ein Rtty/Wefax Tool kommt.Es fehlt noch das auslesen und Betitelung eigener Memory Groups was bisher nur in Zahlen daher kommt.Völlig unbrauchbar die Memory Funktion.Auch vermisse ich die 705 Scanfuntion..Ansonsten ist die App. zu gebrauchen..73 ### 1/5 — Does NOT restore existing radio settings on exit. *2022-04-12, version 1.0.3* The current versions of both the Ipad and MacOS apps Do NOT restore existing radio Data Mod settings on exit which changes the audio in / out paths for the radio. The authors solution is to “manually restore” the settings on the radio after exit - not a useful solution for remote use. A well behaved (useful) app WILL restore existing radio settings on exit. ### 2/5 — doesn’t support ft8 contesting *2025-06-29, version 1.9.70* The app itself works real well. There is a slight learning curve to get it working but the manual is very helpful to get through that. It’s very cool to be on one’s couch and make ft8 contacts. though my biggest gripe is that ft8 doesn’t support the extra characters for contesting or field day. Even if you’re not part of the contest you can’t respond to those that have the extra characters. The app author is pretty adamant about not supporting this. To me that alone makes the app useless and not worth buying. I wish i realized that before I bought the app. ### 2/5 — Memory Scanning Limited/Cumbersome *2025-04-15, version 1.9.64* Nice app. Performs well, but seems a bit unfinished. It seems to lack features/layout that would make it pleasurable to use for scanning purposes. One of the most annoying scanning limitations is buggy scanning and the inability to scan memories by Group (bank). The author proposes a workaround which is to mark those memories you want to scan on-radio (faster) using the channel stars, but this is inconvenient and would upset any star-rated memory scanning setup you have on the radio, effectively nullifying that feature in the radio for at least one of the three star groups. ### 2/5 — Poor value *2023-12-24, version 1.9.06* It kind of works on my LAN but half the time it wont successfully connect to the radio. When it does, the receive audio is very choppy and difficult to listen to. I think I wasted $50 on this unfortunately. Wish I could return it for a refund honestly. ### 2/5 — Not too exciting *2023-08-17* Constantly disconnects for no reason when using at home. Tried using with my IC705 for mobile use and it just crashes, over and over and over. I can’t say a lot good here, the FT8 doesn’t even have a contest mode. The interface is well designed, intuitive and packed with useful features, making operating the radio from an iPad incredibly easy and enjoyable. The connection via WiFi is reliable, the spectrum and waterfall displays look superb, FT8 & 4 along with logging work flawlessly and having so much control directly from the iPad makes for a brilliant operating experience. It’s clear that a huge amount of thought and work has gone into developing and continually improving the app, my wish list would see the addition of RTTY, JS8call & maybe psk For any Icom owner with a compatible radio and an iPad, I would highly recommend SDR-Control. It’s a professional, feature-rich and genuinely useful piece of software that is well worth the money. Excellent work from the developer! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ### 5/5 — Great and fantastic support *2026-04-25, version 1.9.120* I deliberately changed my radio to a IC-7610 for this app. Expensive yes but at 73 what the heck. I’ve had some self inflicted issues and Marcus has been fantastic in helping me sort. This app works superb and fully recommend. 10/10 and would buy again. Please, please do try to get this done! ### 5/5 — Exceptional Application and fun to use 4.8 *2025-06-24, version 1.9.70* the package is fun to use and considering it’s over the internet and back to my 7610 its really a nice package. The CW, FT8 functions work well. The CW keyboard and decoding is good. I am pleased with the price point and the package is well thought out and very modular. I like the export of the log to the cloud and will do an adif import from the cloud export. It would be nice to have split windows but the toggling back and forth loses nothing in the contact QSL logging process. ### 5/5 — Amazing App for ICOM IC-705 *2025-03-31, version 1.9.64* This is an incredible application which allows full wireless control of the IC-705 from an iPad. I had initial interest in running FT8 wirelessly while operating POTA. Since installing the app I have been amazed with its ability to do other modes as well. The waterfall display and control panel are very intuitive and easy to use. Moreover, the manual is well written and covers not only the setup of the software, but setup of the radio itself. I installed the app on my primary iPad and it worked perfectly. Then I installed it on my iPad mini and encountered problems connecting to the radio. I emailed Marcus and he very promptly responded with recommendations on fixing my iPad’s networking problem. I couldn’t be happier with this app and the service I received. The cost is well worth the value. Thanks Marcus. This is one of those apps. It is quite clear that the developer is knowledgeable about both software development and about amateur radio. It just works. The manual is well written, unusually complete and is done using the proper tools. There is both an online and offline (pdf) version available. I know that this app has a cost to it. But, trust me, this is one of those cases where you actually get more than you pay for. (And, writing and maintaining good software takes time and talent, making this a wise one time purchase.)
