## What is SeaBase?

Less apps. More sailing.

Seabase is the offline-first sailing companion. Anchor alarm, offline nautical charts, GPS navigation, tides, and a logbook — every tool you need on the water, all working without a signal. No accounts. No ads.

PAY ONCE
Seabase is a paid app — a single one-time purchase, and it's yours forever. No subscription, nothing auto-renews, no in-app purchases, no ads. Every offline chart region offered is included with unlimited downloads. You pay once and get the whole app.

ANCHOR ALARM
Drop a virtual anchor and Seabase watches your position with phase-based drift detection — scope warnings, drift alerts, and critical alarms with sound and vibration. A sliding-window filter rides out GPS noise instead of waking you for it. Arm it after the fact with "Already Anchored" mode, pause and resume on the fly, and control the whole watch from your wrist. Replay any past anchor session on a scrubbable radar track. Built to wake you before your boat does.

OFFLINE CHARTS
Download nautical chart regions to your phone with OpenSeaMap seamarks built in. A global base layer keeps you covered when you sail past your downloaded zone. NOAA depth overlays for US waters when online.

GPS NAVIGATION
Long-press the chart to plan a route — built-in land detection flags legs that cross land. Live navigation gives you bearing, distance, ETA, cross-track error, and remaining distance with heading-up auto-rotation. Save routes and replay them. A dedicated GPS Navigator adds a radar HUD plus point-to-point go-to.

APPLE WATCH
Native watchOS companion — speed, heading, anchor radar, and a navigation arrow on your wrist. Arm, disarm, pause, and resume the anchor alarm from the watch. Start and stop trip recording remotely. Mirrors your iPhone's dark/light theme.

TIDES
3,500+ tide stations worldwide, completely offline. NOAA-accurate harmonic prediction from a bundled database — no API call, no signal needed. A clear "now" hero card with a trend chart and high/low times.

NEARBY PLACES
An offline harbor and anchorage finder covering 25 cruising regions worldwide — marinas, fuel docks, pump-outs, ramps, and more — with a searchable list and an offline map view. Hand off any place straight to the GPS Navigator.

LOGBOOK
Auto-tracking trip recorder with idle detection, photos, notes, and a speed graph. Shareable trip cards with a route preview. CSV export. Sail Recap turns any recorded trip into a shareable highlight video.

REFERENCE
Knots with animations · COLREGS rules · NATO phonetic alphabet · Safety-equipment guide (US, EU, AU, UK) · VHF MAYDAY / PAN PAN / SÉCURITÉ guide · IALA buoyage.

EMERGENCY
Always-dark emergency screen so it works at night. Heave-to guide, quick-reference distress procedures, MOB tracker, and rescue contacts.

PRIVACY
Your trips, photos, and routes never leave your phone, and your GPS position is never sent anywhere. The only network calls are to map/chart tile hosts for first-time region downloads. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking.

LICENSE
Recreational use only. Not a substitute for professional navigation equipment, official charts, or sailing certifications. You are responsible for your safety on the water.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.1.1 — 2026-08-12

New Learn section — brush up on marine terminology, whether you're just starting out or want a quick refresher. Boat parts, navigation lights, and the terms every sailor should know, all in one place.
Knot guide refreshed — clearer step-by-step images so you can tie along, knot by knot.
Cleaner sail recording screen — a redesigned main view that keeps the numbers that matter front and center while you're underway.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-08-06

The Logbook has been rebuilt from the ground up — and there's a new way to relive your sails.

A real ship's log
Voyages are now a proper deck log. Departures, arrivals and hourly fixes are recorded for you with position, log reading, course and speed. Add your own entries for sail changes, watch changes, weather, engine and incidents — including voice notes transcribed on the device, offline.

Crew, vessel and sea time
Keep a crew roster, record who was aboard and who had the helm. Add your boat and track engine hours and maintenance intervals. A new Sea Time screen totals your qualifying passages toward RYA, USCG and MCA milestones, and any voyage can be countersigned by your skipper right on the phone.

Export your log
Save a voyage as a GPX track, a printable PDF deck log, or a sea-service form.

Sail Recap, reimagined
Replay a recorded sail as a film on the offline chart. Your track draws in behind the boat, photos appear at the spot you took them, and the camera follows the passage from wide establishing shots to close-ups. Scrub the timeline, tap the map to explore freely, and browse photos full screen with the time, position, speed and heading from that moment.

Apple Watch
Log a fix from your wrist while a voyage is recording.

Refinements
- Home screen retuned for readability at arm's length in daylight
- Fixed photos that could go missing from older trip logs
- Speed graphs now follow your theme and speed units

Everything still works completely offline.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-07-23

A readability & safety release — bigger read-outs where they matter most, plus offline US depth charts.

Bigger GPS position read-outs
Your GPS position is now displayed in a larger font on the main screen and the Emergency screen, so it's legible at a glance — or over the radio — even at arm's length.

Emergency screen now in light theme
The entire Emergency section switched from dark to light so it stays readable in direct sunlight, exactly when you need it most.

Large-text support
Onboarding and the rest of the app now adapt cleanly if you use enlarged text.

US NOAA charts offline
Official NOAA depth charts for US waters are now available as an optional download and work fully offline. Your choice: downloaded charts or the live online charts.

Navigation & safety guides reorganized
The guides have been restructured so the most critical information — VHF radio procedures, distress signals, heavy-weather tactics — is right at hand.
