What? Also, I can’t preview any files. Files load very quickly for me, though. ### 4/5 — Servers with ports don’t work *2025-11-07, version 3.0.8* I have a server with https on port 4443, I can login etc but cannot download any files. It needs better integration with the Files app, especiy if you're trying to save files directly from iOS using the share menu into Seafile storage. I'm really looking to Seafile to replace Dropbox and it's like 70% there. Camera roll upload *2024-09-17, version 2.9.27* I have been trying this instead of Nextcloud and have a few pain points hence only 2 stars! The first is that there is no dark mode! The white is too bright and you can’t set the dark mode. The app doesn’t even follow the server custom CSS. The other annoyance is the camera roll upload. When you turn it on it starts uploading all my photos! They are already in the folder!! You need option to just start upload of new photos only not whole album. Also, it just dumps them all in a root folder. Would be great to have them upload into mm-yy format. ### 2/5 — File Upload? *2024-06-26, version 2.9.26* Atleast it is support in the native iOS Files app but is a let down that the app itself only supports Photo uploads and not documents/files. Couldn’t even find SeaFile Pro in the Share menu either. Only way to upload is through the iOS Files app. ### 2/5 — Promising idea but nearly worthless. *2023-10-28, version 2.9.24* I love the simplicity and speed of the Seafile Server on my Linux platform. I also love the Desktop client I am running on Windows to sync things. Unfortunately this Apple app falls way short. Syncing photos to the Server stalls every.single.time the app is no longer active on my phone. The only way to recover is to restart the app. Every combination of settings has failed to remedy this. This app sits on 2 and 3 star reviews for good reason. As it is, Seafile is not a solution for syncing iPhone photos. :( ### 4/5 — Very good *2023-04-27, version 2.9.22* Nice clean app and it works nicely. Don’t use auto upload so can’t comment on that. Would be nice if the app provided shortcuts in the Apple shortcut app. Could make some nice automation scripts then. ### 4/5 — Pretty decent server software, iOS client needs some work. *2023-04-01* The server software works excellent with much issue, and is FAST. The problem is, this client has a few issues and needs to be updated. Sometimes syncing glitches and doesn’t work right. I’ve had to reinstall the app and server both because of this. Sometimes I can no longer unlock my encrypted library. Face ID support is there, it just says Touch ID instead. Ultimately as it stands right now, the web app works a bit better at the moment. Hopefully they update the app soon and Seafile can reach its full potential. ### 4/5 — Mostly good *2023-01-01* Surprisingly clean and stable for a self hosted app. Only complaint: background photo uploads don’t work ### 4/5 — Works better than expected but could use a few things. *2022-08-30* This app is actually pretty solid. A few things that would make it much better. 1. When a file is marked as available offline, it would be great if those files would appear in a Seafile directory under “on my iPhone”. This would make it significantly easier to work with other apps. 2. Really needs a dark mode. Even better would be if the app could read the colors set in the Seahub custom CSS. This way everyone’s mobile app would match the web UI. Some other apps already do this. ### 3/5 — Buggy behavior, needs improvement *2020-12-06* Let me clarify by saying that the app is definitely functional and works well enough. All features do work but it’s pretty lacking. Needs a dark mode update, it’s not very responsive when tapping around quick. ### 2/5 — Bad for phone usage *2020-11-05* Photos uploaded can’t keep the size unchanged, although the resolution may not change, I want to keep my photos as it is created! ### 3/5 — iOS Files integration can be better *2020-10-06* The Seafile app does the job well. The main issue I see in 2020 is buggy behavior in the Files app. Sometimes Seafile is not selectable as a destination/source in the file picker, and sometimes files are “out-of-date” when browsing libraries in the Files app. Other apps seem to be integrated perfectly with Files app, but not Seafile :( This is the biggest issue I have with the app on iPadOS/iOS 14 in the year 2020. Simple UI, and I’ve ran into very few bugs or issues. Just works. ### 5/5 — The Ultimate Private Cloud - fast, reliable and secure. *2025-06-07* I have tried many cloud storage solutions, but Seafile stands out as the best choice for my for self-hosted private cloud. It offers blazing-fast file sync, version control and seamless sharing with fine grained permission settings. Works flawlessly across my Mac, iPhone and iPad- the cross-device integration is top-notch. ### 5/5 — Works very well, iOS specifics need improvement *2019-11-10* The application works quite well overall. Syncing and downloads work as expected, the Touch ID works as expected, and I’ve had no issues uploading and downloading files in bulk. That said, Seafile doesn’t really integrate into iOS like most other online storage apps like Dropbox or Google Drive. It doesn’t show up as a storage location in files, and applications that do see it in the share sheet do not have a way to request an authentication key to access files without exporting them directly from the Seafile UI. It suits my needs, and works well for its flagship features, but it’s not going to provide a seamless replacement on iOS even if it’s head and shoulders above competitors on Linux, Windows, and MacOS. Update: looks like the developers are actively trying to address my one gripe. Still not getting expected behavior, but active development is always a good sign for long term support. Great work seafile team! EDIT: After fixing the safari PDF import bug, this tool is now indispensable! ### 5/5 — A great alternative to Dropbox *2016-12-02, version 2.5.2* I have long looked for a Dropbox alternative and of them all, this comes closest to the ideal: - macOS, iOS, Linux, and web support - contents encrypted locally - optionally self-hosted server!!! - open source!! I do think the clients can be improved and I wish for more 3rd party support. ### 5/5 — Fastest and most stable sync service available *2016-11-24, version 2.5.1* I'm an attorney and data backup and security is a must. I've tried 4-5 different self-hosted solutions including owncloud and syncthing, and seafile is better than anything else out there. It has client side encryption, and as long as you have the upload speed available it serves files lightning fast - to your phone, iPad, web browser, etc. It has desktop apps for Windows and Mac, and the iOS app is great. Best part is I am able to run my server on a raspberry PI. Only complaint I have is you can't share a link for a file in an encrypted library, but if you really want to share something it's not hard to download the file, upload it to an unencrypted library, and then share a link.
