I’ve been thinking of writing an app like this, but you have a great start on what I have in mind so perhaps I could suggest an upgrade.  One of the most bothersome things regarding food allergies is scanning through long ingredient list for this specific words and potentially missing something, resulting in accidental illness.

I propose an upgrade to the app to permit a list of words to highlight, to help shoppers when trying to buy food safe for consumption. You could limit the number of words, but I would aim somewhat high like 10 to try to cover various potentials (gluten = wheat, barley, etc.) / (dairy = cheese, whey) / (soy = tofu) among other potentials. As such, the value of this app would have drastic impact on many people with food limitations.
