My suggestions for improvement: - Let users set their location ‘permanently’, so you don’t have to select your location every time you open it. - Have it select the current month by default, or introduce an option for that. Selecting the current date every time you open the app is frustrating. - Have a couple of viewing options. The large photos are nice, but make it very hard to see at a glance what all the items are (it’s a long way to scroll to the bottom). I’d personally like two compact columns with just a name and image. - Have it return to your place on the list when returning from the detail page for a particular produce type. Currently it returns you to the top of the list, and since it’s a very long list that means a LOT of scrolling. Thanks for a cool app :) ### 4/5 — Great info, but still so glitchy *2025-01-22, version 2.1.14* - After selecting region and month time, as I scroll through foods, it will inadvertently select foods and bring me to the details. And once that happens, I don’t see a back button, so I deselect the food, but that resets all selections… - When making selections, it’s a little unclear that something has been “clicked” on. Could you maybe immediately gray the line of text that’s selected? - Autofill for current month. - For regions in the middle of states (example Orlando, FL) it’s unclear what to select - North or South - could there be Central options added? - General content: When scrolling through foods, especially on mobile, the additional text on the foods doesn’t seem to add much to the use (possibly for rarer varieties is an exception), but I think that the button to learn more is enough on the list view. ### 3/5 — Could use more functionality to feel less redundant *2024-08-17, version 2.1.14* this a fantastic idea! but clicking on a food leads you to the website in the browser, rather then just presenting the information in the app itself. theres not enough in the app itself that justifies having it downloaded over bookmarking the website in your browser and going there instead. it also thinks my state is northern california when im a state over ### 3/5 — Not Bad *2024-08-01, version 2.1.14* Could be better. It’s a great basic app, and despite a couple of design issues, it does its job well enough. My suggestions would be to allow an ‘any region’ option, just as there is an ‘any month’ option, so that in season produce all over the US can be viewed at once (and so it stops defaulting to SoCal when you tap a fruit). Next would be to have the app recognize the difference between an actual tap and the long-hold ‘tap’ that’s used to stop speed scrolling. Just to make it a little easier to use and reduce frequency of mistaps. ### 3/5 — Needs some features :) *2022-04-20, version 2.1.14* Hi I love the idea and message behind this app! It's really beautiful and the design is great. However the app is clunky and difficult to use. I will explain three features that should be added. 1) A back button. It is fun to scroll up and down to see the produce, but sometimes the app decides I clicked something and all of a sudden it pauses, buffers, and then shows details about a plant. I want to go back immediately but there's no back button therefore I have to start my search all over again. Notice how Instagram's back button is really small, on the top left if I recall correctly, but very useful. I also think YouTube has a back button built into its design. 2) Sign-in. In today's world I expect apps to know me and my preferences when I open them. At the very least this app should understand I live in New Jersey and want to see produce available now. It does not make sense that I have to input this info every time. Therefore I think it would be great to have an account. If you cannot offer the bandwidth to create accounts, please allow users to save data locally on the phone. 3) A news feed. I think this app would be better off if it had a small banner about what vegetables are new/fresh in your state, and a small list of local farm news and upcoming farmers markets (chance for $ via advertising for local farms, markets, and municipalities). I understand the goal is to offer information freely and communicably, so my above three requests will bring your app closer to that resolution. Thank you! ### 3/5 — Like but needs some more simple features *2021-01-12, version 2.0.3* Love this concept but when I put in my criteria and hen click one of the results when I go back to the list my criteria have been erased and the list isn’t filtered anymore which is annoying. So thank you for that! However the app does not seem to work/ function properly on my phone. Nor does the text line up to where it should be. The list can get pretty long, so I really wish it had a “back to top” button. It would make it scrolling much easier. It would also be really nice to toggle a list view or to sort by fruits / vegetables (yes I know technically fruits are vegetables :)). This app is extremely cumbersome to use when you want to make a shopping list of categories of food you want. Search bar would also be nice since scrolling to find the food can be really annoying when you are at the market. ### 3/5 — Useful and attractive, but with a big design flaw *2018-09-28, version 1.6.7* The app is useful and attractive, but it has a huge design flaw. By default, it shows me an alphabetized list of foods that are in season where I live. And for each food, I can click on a button that says “seasonality” to find out more about the food and when it is in season. So far, so good. But when I click the left arrow in the upper left-hand corner of the screen to return to the alphabetized list of foods in season, I am always returned to the very top of the list. This is a big problem, because the list is always very long. For example, if I am reading about the seasonality of mushrooms and I then return to the main list of foods in season, I am returned to the top of that list – not to the entry on mushrooms, which I was reading, but to the entry on apples. And so I must scroll *a lot* to find my place in the list. You will have the same problem. It’s a big, simple design flaw. If they fix it, this will be a four- or five-star app. ### 3/5 — Doesn't allow for usage by DC residents *2017-08-22, version 1.5* Looks like it would be useful but no option for a DC location so I guess I'll delete. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Deficient app *2025-02-17, version 2.1.14* When I select the North Florida, all produce is still displayed with no filtering applied. I have to enter the state every time which is annoying. ### 1/5 — no back button?!!? *2021-08-22, version 2.1.13* i really wanted to love this app, and i think the concept is great. i love that you can click through an item to learn more about how to prepare, cook, and preserve it. it’s absolutely infuriating that there is no back button feature — once you click, purposely or not, on a produce item, you cannot just go back to your customized list. being able to customize your place and time is great — but why ask for my location if the app isn’t going to even do it automatically? being reset to the “all” category every single time renders the app essentially useless to me. ### 1/5 — Poor search functionality. *2021-03-11, version 2.0.3* A search returns a list of foods. Selecting a food from the list to get more detail resets the search to the default parameters, and the search needs to redefined. I did two searches and deleted the app. ### 1/5 — Don't bother *2020-09-27, version 2.0.3* It works so poorly. Every time you click a food item to see its seasonality it defaults to the full list when you navigate back to see other food items in your area. You have to renter your location and time of year every single time you click on anything. Their interface is garbage. Just google it to get the info you want, I already deleted this dumpster fire. Hopefully they fix it. ### 1/5 — Good idea but... *2019-05-09, version 1.6.7* I think this app is a great idea but the way information is shown is cumbersome. It should have an overview calendar option where I can look at a month or several months and see what fruits or vegetables will be in season on a given month. Instead this is a long list of each item that I have to scroll and scroll to view in entirety. ### 2/5 — Great idea bad implementation *2024-01-10, version 2.1.14* It’s almost perfect but selecting an item automatically selects it when backing out and then you have to delete it which takes you back and you have to select state and month again. It would nice when you hit any produce you could see the Jan-Dec chart on both screens as well. I prefer their website as it is smooth and user-friendly. ### 2/5 — Wonderful concept but too many bugs *2023-03-19, version 2.1.14* I’ve been trying to eat more produce in season, and this app seemed like the perfect guide. Unfortunately, I can’t even scroll halfway down the page before it randomly selects produce or freezes to where I have to restart the app. My iPhone is less than a year old and fully updated, so not sure what the issue is, but I’ll have to find a different app. ### 2/5 — Too buggy to be useful *2021-04-21, version 2.0.3* I really like the idea of this app, it’s just too clunky to use. There is no way to save settings to my state or season, and there is no search function. This means scrolling through the whole list anytime I want to find something. To add insult to injury, halfway through the list the app often erases the settings I put in manually, so I have to re-enter them and scroll through the whole list again. Also, none of the links for more info on the specific products seem to work. ### 2/5 — Erases my location *2020-12-02, version 2.0.3* I set the my state and the month I scroll down and 5 sec later it refreshes and erases all the information I have put in. If you ever want to add to the functionality, here’s some suggestions: Allow to filter by nutrients - like, if I wanna see where I can get vitamin C naturally at this time of year, let me choose my state and month and the nutrient I need so it only shows me in-season produce that have X% of that nutrient. ### 5/5 — Yes but please fix it 🥺🙏 *2023-08-01, version 2.1.14* I love this app so much, in recent years I’ve been trying my hardest to figure out how to be more sustainable. This App has shown me so much about my area that I didn’t even know about. I can’t believe I’ve gone 17 years without knowing I could’ve been eating delicious Foods native to Texas which I’ve lived in my whole life. The only thing that I see is a problem is the design of the site, it makes me enter in my address and seasonal search engine after every time I go in to check the availability of a certain plant. it’s a hassle to put in the information after every Time I want to check if apples grow in May or March (example) it’s gotten to the point where I have to be very selective with what I want to check or else I know I want to just not use the app (I get too lazy) I really hope the creators of this app still pays attention to it because it is overall a really good idea and as The world begins to shift apps like these are very important to the future of our food chain. i’ll make sure to spread the word to my friends and family that I’ve been following along with my diet habits as of recently, but I do believe that this App could benefit from marketing strategies, etc. :) that’s all for me I hope this app continues to grow ### 5/5 — Useful tool *2021-03-14, version 2.0.3* Great tool to live more sustainably. ### 5/5 — Awesome! *2020-08-26, version 1.6.7* My fiancée and I use this app all the time for fun ideas.
