### 3/5 — Not too bad

*2025-12-10, version 7.0*

I just started using this app to perfect my yoruba and while although it’s good there’s still needs to be improvement, some of the words don’t have any audio to them, so it’s much harder to figure out how to pronounce the correctly i wish that could be fixed, i also would like the pronounciation of the words to spelled out it makes it much easier because most of the time the pronouncing of the words are too fast so i wish that could be included.

### 3/5 — Glitch

*2025-11-30, version 7.0*

It’s not letting me register for whatever reason

### 3/5 — Bug

*2025-11-18, version 7.0*

My app was working great and now it doesn’t let me register

### 4/5 — Flash cards

*2024-12-27, version 7.0*

This app is great for flash card type learning. It’s language development through rote memorization. It would be helpful if some AI conversations could be introduced so there is practice with usage and not just memorizing and matching.

### 3/5 — A Great app but…

*2024-12-21, version 7.0*

The app is very good, featuring a nice UI/UX design. Based on my experience with other apps, I believe Sebmita has potential; however, I’ve noticed a couple of issues. There isn’t a breakdown of the words, and the app doesn’t provide a way to learn the alphabet. You primarily listen to the words, but it can be challenging to keep up. Sometimes, it’s difficult to grasp what was spoken or to follow along. It would be helpful if there were resources to learn the basics, such as the alphabet and a few simple words, before diving into the main content. I learn Amharic and this is a problem for me, as most of the words sound so foreign to me that I struggle to even follow up.

### 2/5 — Ads are annoying

*2023-08-06, version 6.0*

This app shows a lot of promise but the ad set up is insane. There are ads between every lesson, which is fine, but then you have to stare at a pop up prompting you to pay for ad free for one month for a full 45 seconds - between EVERY LESSON. please cut that out. Make it a pop up every 5 lessons and don’t make it a 45 second requirement. 5 seconds maybe. It’s the only reason I will stop using the app.

### 4/5 — Great app but needs to improve subscription options

*2023-07-07, version 5.1*

The app is great and has a wealth of languages on there with pronunciation. It includes a translation section to type anything you like.

Would like to see subscription options that allow you to permanently remove ads or for at least 1 year. Paying monthly for this is just silly and deters me from staying on the app for longer - I end up on YouTube language channels after a short while.

Also would be good to include a glossary/dictionary of words as we only are learning them as part of phrases.

Thanks. Hope you consider this.

Kind Regards,
Ivor

### 4/5 — Love this app

*2023-06-20, version 5.1*

I think this app is amazing but I just have one complaint that I with it was easier to just to hear one word at a time, in a sentence. So it’s easy to learn that one word instead of having to hear the whole sentence or phase just to hear that one word.

### 2/5 — Mandarin pronunciation is horrible!

*2023-04-24, version 5.1*

First, I’ll say that I haven’t checked more than Mandarin and Swahili, and only a little bit of either. Swahili pronunciation seems ok, but not perfect. Mandarin pronunciation on the other hand, is absolutely horrible. The sort of horrible that made me wonder if they were actually trying to say alternate words for the words that I knew were correct. Additionally, the very first sentence was wrong, because no native Mandarin speaker ever says the equivalent of “Hello. How are you?”, since the words for “hello” and “how are you” are the same in Mandarin, with one small addition at the end. If you learned their horrible pronunciation and combined that with their wrong wording, there is no way that you would ever be understood. Additionally, no Chinese language appears to be supported or even mentioned on the developer’s very brief website. For these reasons, I’m not going to take the chance of learning the wrong thing, by using this app, for any language.

### 2/5 — Downhill

*2023-04-15, version 5.1*

This app has gone so downhill. It used to be called Mandla and it was specifically for African languages but now maybe they sold it because this app has changed so much also you have to pay for things on this app.

### 3/5 — lacking hausa

*2023-03-30, version 4.0.2*

please add hausa to your list of languages! it’s so widely spoken, i was surprised it wasn’t on the list.

### 3/5 — No Other languages

*2023-02-11, version 4.0.2*

I wanted to learn Somali or
Af - Somali
Official languages in

Spoken in, Somalia, Somaliland, Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Kenya

how is Oroma language of oroma people/ ethnic is listed as language of Ethiopian state. Ethiopia's is multi ethnic 88 languages

### 2/5 — Pricing issue -scam??

*2023-01-27, version 4.0.2*

I was happy to pay 9.99 to use this for a month, but I am NOT happy to be asked to pay AGAIN only two days later- and this time, 29.99. I’m studying Kinyarwanda, and even though I already paid 9.99, I can’t access any of the Ievels after “animals” which is A LOT of levels.

I did a few levels for free, then got asked to pay 9.99. I gladly paid. I want to see this app succeed!

But then after completing only like 3 more lessons, and “unlocking” the “transportation” lesson, I got promoted to buy “premium” , which is 29.99. I can’t go further without paying. Again.

So, I was very excited for these languages. But is this thing just a scam?? It seems like it is.

Would love to be proved wrong.

### 4/5 — It need a little help

*2022-12-31, version 4.0.2*

I was so glad when I found an app that had my language Amharic, and when I started everything was pretty good. Then I began hearing some words that did not match the spelling or from my background knowledge on this language I had the words did not match. But overall I liked the app and the way it was built but please fix it.

### 3/5 — I’m confused

*2022-12-27, version 4.0.2*

The app was good until I paid for the 10 dollar subscription and now it tells me I have to pay 30 dollars a month to continue. Also there’s no help desk? I’m confused now

### 4/5 — More languages

*2022-12-13, version 3.3.8*

It’s a nice app but I wanna learn Hausa 😕

### 2/5 — False advertising

*2022-11-27, version 3.3.8*

I have been using this app for a few weeks now. There were some bugs but overall the content was very helpful. The bugs included audio that did not match, lessons that were unlocked before re-locking, and some answers being incorrect by being mismatched. However after every single lesson there was a 45 second wait time to ask if you want to purchase a membership to turn off ads. The only ad was this incredibly annoying one to just waste your time and incentives paying. I would have considered subscribing if it were on a timer like every x Min or after x amount of lessons and a shorter wait. Not every lesson and 45 second counter. To make things worse I just updated and now it says i must pay in order to get lessons that I already started. I can not access anything I did passed first 4. Their website I downloaded from says this is free “learn African languages at no cost.” Not a monthly subscription or unlock all lessons for $20 or all languages and stop their one relentless ad for $30. Looks like someone is getting greedy or false advertising. Things like this is why the community has trouble. Cut it out. There are other ways to make money even with the app, instead of stopping a persons ability to learn if they cannot spend on it. this is a bad decision. You cannot see the amount of lessons in the rest of the app without buying in case you wanted to check if it was worth it to you. The first few ranged from 2 lessons to 11 for each topic. Again the content was very good so being blindsided is so disappointing.

### 4/5 — Awesome but….

*2022-11-20, version 3.3.6*

I love the app. Right as I was getting deep into it the screen went black and I could not clear it in the app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Glitch

*2025-11-30, version 7.0*

Started learning Shona and it was going well, I got busy and hadn’t used it in a few days. When I went back onto it, it would not let me login, I tried making a new account, it would kick me out and make me start the sign up again, and is still doing the same thing now. A real letdown.

### 1/5 — Stuck on create profile

*2025-11-21, version 7.0*

I used this app a lot but they added something that wants me to create a profile and every time I register it takes me back to the same page and now I can’t learn anything now

### 1/5 — Good then bad

*2025-11-10, version 7.0*

At first this app was good but then it started to act funny it’s asking me to login but it will not let me

### 1/5 — Money

*2023-09-30, version 6.0*

App was great at first could access all content with no ads. Then they added ads which was okay. Then they added ads and you have to pay to study some content. I am not paying 30$ or 20$ monthly. That’s actually ridiculous.

### 1/5 — Bug

*2023-06-29, version 5.1*

Even after the app has rebranded, once I try to click on a new lesson in transportation my screen fades out and turns white and i can’t access anything

### 1/5 — Helpful

*2023-02-10, version 4.0.2*

It’s helped me lay a good foundation in a couple of languages. Thanks

### 1/5 — Downhill ever since they started subscription

*2023-02-02, version 4.0.2*

I use to love this app. Then they started ads and subscriptions. Now I can barely use it. Not only that but the price keeps changing. There should be a one time fee of like $5 not a monthly payment. They should honestly go back to being free, I wouldn’t have minded donating to the cause but the price is too much and everything keeps changing. Please bring back the free app with little to no ads! Will be looking for a new app in the meantime

### 1/5 — No Zulu?

*2022-12-19, version 4.0.1*

Your profile says you teach Zulu but it is not on the list of languages to learn for English speakers. Is there an app issue or you don’t include it even though you say you do?

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2022-10-09, version 3.2.0*

I downloaded the app and it doesn’t work at all. It only allows me to translate but not practice and learn new stuff

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2022-07-07, version 3.2.0*

I was hoping that this would be a good app. Unfortunately the app doesn’t work at all! It was taking forever to process creating an account. Then after finally creating the account, the app won’t let me sign in. I’ve also lost the little progress I made in learning Igbo. This is terribly frustrating and disappointing.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Really good

*2025-11-14, version 7.0*

I love this app so much! It has wide range of African languages even my mother tongue, Lingala. Which, i find that alot of other language apps tend to lack.

if its okay, can i recommend that you could add more asian languages such as Nepali? Please and thank you.

### 5/5 — Mano Language

*2025-03-29, version 7.0*

So I was looking through the app and I was just happening to wondering if you also teach Mano or will add that anytime soon?

### 5/5 — Excellent!!!

*2024-09-13, version 7.0*

If you are looking for an app that teaches African languages that aren’t very common, this is the app for you! I live in Zimbabwe and am trying to learn the local language, Shona. I have searched the AppStore thoroughly without finding a good Shona learning app. I finally found Sebmita and am enjoying my bite sized, easy to learn lessons. I can only make one suggestion- swap the Shona and English words so that you get an English word and have to find the Shona word. The subscriptions also are really good as they are not monthly, but paid once for all time. I might upgrade if I don’t get a Shona tutor instead. Thanks Sebmita!

### 5/5 — Loving this app so far!

*2023-03-13, version 4.0.2*

I came looking for a better app since the support for African languages is nonexistent with Duolingo. Thank you for this amazing app! 🥰

### 5/5 — honestly amazing

*2022-10-27, version 3.2.0*

I’m mixed so I’m African American and Irish. I have always wanted to learn about Africa and Swahili, so when I looked up some African languages learning apps there wasn’t a lot of them…
But this one is definitely a game changer and it’s been only 2 days
and I have 4 page in my notebook studying about Swahili. Plus it’s so easy and very promising and I hope whoever uses this app is successful ❤️

### 5/5 — Learning Yoruba (my heritage language)

*2022-10-02, version 3.2.0*

Ever since learning my family is of the Yoruba tribe after taking an AfricanAncestry test, I’ve been searching for the perfect app to learn the language 🙏🏾. This app has a clean layout that makes it pleasant to learn the language on the go, well done!

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2022-09-11, version 3.2.0*

Great and innovative app, works great would highly recommend !

### 5/5 — Actually a Good language App

*2022-07-19, version 3.2.0*

It’s so hard to find ANY language apps or programs with African languages and I can say this app has genuinely helped with my igbo. Very good app and very glad it’s not stuck behind a buck of payments to learn stuff but hopefully in the future they can add a speaking feature to work on people pronunciation other than that it’s awesome!

### 5/5 — BROOO

*2022-05-14, version 3.2.0*

IDK HOW WELL IT WORKS CUZ I JUST GOT IT BUT THEY ACTUALLY HAVE AMHARIC AND IM SO HAPPY LIKE THANK YOU SO MUCH
