It can be inconvenient to use your real phone number, because you may get overwhelmed with messages and it can be difficult to maintain work/home balance when you have to search through your work messages to find the ones from family. Personally, as a teacher, this would be very useful for me so that I do not have to give away my personal phone number to parents and at the end of the school year I would be able to get rid of it if I choose. However I like to keep in touch with parents even after their child moves on but the option is there!
