See and Learn Saying Words 1 includes eight sets of words. The words in each set start with the same speech sound. The initial sounds selected for See and Learn Saying Words 1 are sounds that children usually learn to use early in typical development (b, d, m, p, y, n, w and h). The 72 target words represent a range of vowel-consonant combinations and are selected from vocabulary suitable for younger children. See and Learn Saying Words 1 is designed and supported by internationally recognized experts to meet the specific learning needs of children with Down syndrome and is consistent with current scientific understanding of the children's needs and effective interventions. It is part of See and Learn Speech - an evidence-based teaching program designed to help children with Down syndrome to learn to talk more clearly. Children can start the activities in See and Learn Saying Words when they: • can produce at least some of the consonants b, d, m, p, y, n, w or h - for example, m, and b. • can produce simple combinations of these consonants and a vowel - for example, moo and baa. We recommend that young children practice these activities as soon as they meet these criteria. However, the activities are also suitable for older children who need additional practice to improve their speech clarity. Also nothing special that can't be achieved with basic flash cards. ### 4/5 — Pleased with the results *2014-06-08, version 1.1* I have a child, nearly four with Down syndrome, and have waited some time for downs ed to release the See and learn apps. I use the paper versions successfully with Theo but he prefers using the I pad for lessons. The interface has, as you would expect from specialists, a clear and easy to use interface that interests him without distracting him with lots of buttons or sounds. I can see thought has gone into the choice of words to practice and the program should be seen as a way to practice sounds rather than build up an extensive vocabulary. I have some query over the choice of words, it's difficult to Flashcards verbs ( picture of a slide for down ?). However it achieves it primary purpose. As to cost. It is expensive relative to cheapness of apps however I have easily spent £13 on apps that have proved useless. If expansion packs simply add to this platform then I will consider it money well spent. Do keep expanding it to other phonemes ### 5/5 — New App *2014-06-06, version 1.1* My Son Eli is seven years old and loved this App. I find it very helpful in developing his pronunciation and word skills. The visual aspect was a great idea connecting play and learning at the same time.
