## What is Seen?

Seen is a field journal for the wildlife you actually see.

Photograph an animal and Seen names it, then keeps it — the species, the place, the date — building a record of everything you have encountered.

IDENTIFY WHAT YOU SPOT
Point your camera at an animal, or choose a photo you already have. Seen identifies the species, tells you something about how it lives, and files it in your journal in a tap. More than one animal in the frame? It finds them all, so a whole group goes in at once.

KNOW BIRDS BY THEIR SONG
Record a few seconds of birdsong and Seen identifies the singer. Useful for the birds you can hear perfectly well and cannot see at all.

A CATALOGUE WORTH BROWSING
More than 700 species, each with an original watercolour plate, a description, and lookalikes to help you separate the ones that are easily confused. Good on the sofa, not only in the field.

YOUR FIELD JOURNAL
Every sighting is dated and placed on a map. Group them into trips — a week in the Mara, an hour on the estuary — and watch the record build. The species you log fill out collections and earn trophies along the way.

SHARE, OR DON'T
Your journal is private until you decide otherwise. Publish a sighting when you want to, follow other spotters, and see what is being found near you. Every post and every spotter can be reported or blocked, and blocked spotters stay blocked.

SEEN PRO
The free plan includes ten AI identifications each month. Seen Pro removes the limit.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.0.2 — 2026-10-08

Your field journal has a new look: square cards, three to a row, under a heading for each month. Scroll and the date rides along the right-hand edge; drag it to fly back through the years, as in Photos (iOS 18 and later).

Sorting by size now goes by weight rather than length, so a 13 kg leopard tortoise finally outranks a 120 g vine snake.

151 animal illustrations have been redrawn. Gone are the two-headed wildebeest, the five-legged cane toad and the giant anteater drawn as a bird.

The numbers on your profile now open what they count: species spotted and AI verified take you to your journal, trophies to your cabinet.

When you log a sighting, the date and place have clear Change buttons. Your own posts now appear in Following, and the feed keeps loading as you scroll, so older sightings are no longer out of reach.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-09-25

Sorting by size now uses real measurements, so the blue whale finally outranks the elephant — every one of the 727 species carries its true length.

Wildlife news gains filters by source and species, sharper images, and two new sources in the Guardian and Mongabay.

Logging a sighting now shows you the date and place before you save it, and tells you where each came from — the photo, the map, or you. Sightings logged without signal keep the date the photo was taken.

A new trophy: South American Birds, sixteen species from the Andean condor to the Galápagos mockingbird. Apex Predators has been corrected — the aardwolf, which eats termites, is no longer among them.
