Which was shocking to me. ### 4/5 — Great service, app has a few issues *2022-12-23, version 3.4* Something happened to this app, there are a few changes that were not for the better. I’ve found that the scanner works great (almost too good, as frequently it scans my book, adds it to my cart, then scans it AGAIN and says “this book is already in your cart” before I can move the phone away from the book). But now I can no longer see the total $ amount of all the books in my cart- kind of important, since there is a $7.50 minimum for sell-back. Another change I dislike is the ability to swipe-and-remove a book as soon as I’ve scanned it. Instead I have to leave the Scanner, go into the Cart, and remove from there. Why change what worked? Also, I too have experienced the anguish of being logged in and having a full cart, then getting the “please log in” error message when I try to Complete Sale. One other bug is scanning a book, being told it is worth “$0.48”, then later the app not wanting that book after all. “$0.48” seems to be the kiss of death- beware if your book has that value! It might not be true. I still use this app/service very frequently, but would be happier if some of the bugs were fixed. ### 1/5 — Don’t use *2022-12-12, version 3.4* Please go sell them else where. This app is absolutely scamming you. There is no way your book is only worth 14 cents. Go to your local thrift shop or find a Second and Charles. ### 2/5 — App is buggy *2022-12-09, version 3.4* They do pay you the agreed upon price for the books, but half the time the scanner doesn’t pick up the barcodes and you have to type in the ISBN number. Also, it’s difficult to complete a sale because there’s a bug that says you are not signed in when you are, so you have to keep trying it to get it to go though. Honestly, it’s the best sellback books app, but it’s got a lot of issues. ### 1/5 — Can’t Register *2022-09-03, version 3.3* I can’t register… get an Error message every single time. Can anyone help? ### 1/5 — Don’t waste your time even downloading this app *2022-06-11, version 3.2* I spent a good amount of time scanning each book in, granted it was a fairly easy process just time consuming, and the most they wanted to give me for a book was $.19. I know your probably thinking they were not good books but there was a lot of Nora Roberts and Kristen Hannah, which are both huge selling authors. I guess I’ll just do a little more work and go to my local book store to sell my books ### 3/5 — iOS 15.4.1 *2022-05-01, version 3.2* This update changes the layout of the results of scanning. It puts the result on the side of screen and you can’t see the results. Can you fix please. We love using this app. ### 1/5 — Quite a letdown *2022-04-12, version 3.2* Have seven or eight books that I bought second hand and each had a piece of paper hyping this company. Downloaded this app and scanned each ISBN and lo and behold, there was only one that they would buy back ($.18). Some people may fare better but I certainly think it’s a joke. ### 1/5 — Get 10$ for 100 books *2022-04-02, version 3.2* Tried to sell roughly 170$ worth of hardback books in good condition and got about 5 and a half dollars back ### 1/5 — Scam *2022-02-12, version 3.2* Takes like three weeks for your books to get there using their label. I think they put them on the back of a snail. Then they claim payment is issued but you never get it. Better off donating your books. ### 1/5 — The Consumer Protection Bureau Needs to Investigate this Company ASAP *2022-02-11, version 3.2* I could write a book, that I would proceed to not sell on SellBackYourBook, on how unethical and scammy this company is. No matter HOW badly you want to declutter quickly, variations of this company exist all over the web, so PLEASE take it from me and stay as FAR away from this company as humanly possible. They are wholly illegitimate and someone NEEDS to investigate what percentage of their profits comes from *stolen* goods, in a scheme whereby they quote you for an item, receive it, claim it is unusable and thus cannot release a payment, and yet they resell it anyway! $0 to you, 100% profit for them, and the cherry on the proverbial cake is that no matter WHAT you do, you will NEVER receive these items back, no matter how much you plead, even IF you PAY them to ship them back to you! It’s amazing that this company still stands- I do wish I could turn back time to before I mistakenly sent them a beautiful hardback edition of a beloved book, pristine and practically brand new, only to have it held hostage under the premise that it is unsellable, as well as my money hostage that I sent them for “shipping fees” to receive this book back. Did I get the book back at least? I did not- they proceeded to change their narrative and claim that they never received the book in the first place. I am usually disappointed but not surprised with unethical or illegal behavior , or just surprised but not disappointed- but this is one of those rare circumstances where I can be both. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — App buggy and doesn’t work right *2024-10-31* This app is so filled with bugs and doesn’t work correctly half the time. Either my cart gets randomly lost and I have to start over scanning my books or it doesn’t work at all and keeps prompting “Error. Something went wrong” and won’t scan any books at all, even with a forced restart of the app. Thank god it’s free… only reason it gets 1 star. ### 1/5 — Scam *2024-03-26* I’ve been selling books on eBay for four years now with over 700 sales. 100% custom satisfaction. Four weeks after receiving my books, still no payment. Three inquiries later no payment. Threaten to give a bad review. Partial payments. Claim to have not received every book. My record Stands for itself. ### 1/5 — Didn't receive payment!!! *2024-03-14* I never received payment for the books I sent them. They sent confirmation that my books were received. I even received an email stating that payment was being sent to my PayPal account. However, the payment was never deposited to my PayPal account!!! I've also sent three emails inquiring about this matter and received ZERO response. ### 1/5 — App leaves much to be desired *2024-02-22* The app seems to scan the bar codes most of the time, but trying to check out is a nightmare. It keeps saying there’s an error and you need to sign in again. Others complained about this issue a year ago and apparently the company either doesn’t read their reviews or they don’t care because it’s not fixed. ### 1/5 — Scam Thieves *2024-01-25* The scanner tells you how much you’ll get, then they send you half of what you’re quoted and tell you the books were damaged. They don’t send pictures of the books they aren’t paying you for, and they don’t send the books back. Don't waste your time on this app. They’ll take your books and run. ### 1/5 — Not worth it *2024-01-24* I was trying to sell some books to earn back some of the money I spent on them. I scanned on that was $17 and it was going to pay me 0.47 for the book?! The highest value I got was $2 for one of my books. They’re definitely selling these books for more and sellers are getting ripped off. ### 1/5 — Scam *2024-01-11* It won’t let you delete your account and the privacy policy “doesn’t exist anymore for this app”. Don’t know if it legitimately gives you money— they only take certain books for pennies on the dollar. They will only pay you out after $25 has been reached. ### 1/5 — waste of time *2023-07-29* They will only pay you 10-20 cents for most books, but won’t even let you checkout until you have over $7.50 in books. Unless you have dozens of books you’re selling, you can’t even checkout. Stupid and scammy. ### 1/5 — I quit; too much trouble *2023-06-06* I just spent waaay too much time scanning and entering ISBNs for low value books. The second time it dumped my completed shopping cart is the last time. I will look for another book service. Maybe I will check later in 2023 to see if the app improves. Then when you try to set up PayPal as the payment option and proceed it just says an error has occurred and doesn’t say what error and nothing happens. I followed the instructions so not sure why that did not work. I’m waiting to see if I get a check but everything else so far has been on point and the scanner worked great. ### 5/5 — App works well *2020-12-13, version 3.2* The app is fine. Overall, I had a decent experience. I was able to scan and ship about $21 worth of books. They paid the shipping. The whole thing took maybe 2 or 3 weeks. The biggest downside is that they didn’t want to buy most of the books I scanned. But since I was going to donate all of them anyway, at least this app was able to get me $21.
