Very difficult to know if it’s making any difference. ### 3/5 — Quality of the app doesn’t reflect the cost of the device *2026-08-09, version 1.10.13* I really like the device, I feel like I see a noticeable improvement in my resting heart rate and hrv, I get better quality rest if I use it for a mid day nap, I fall asleep faster and sleep better if I use it before bed, it’s very soothing and comforting and definitely helps me feel less stressed. That all said, I don’t think the app is very good. -There’s no battery indicator on the app, imo a huge oversight. -more than half of the “soundscapes” are corny and annoying, even from what I heard from the previews of the plus options there’s only maybe 4 that I think I would like, which is certainly not worth the subscription cost. -I wish there were more longer options, the 30 minutes are what I prefer and there’s like two that I can bear to listen to. -recently one of those, nebula, has stopped working entirely, the device just stops vibrating 5 minutes into the session and never starts again. We’ve tried on both mine and my partners phone and it happens to both of us. Real bummer. - the categories are arbitrary and confusing, I wish you could see all at once and filter by time and maybe type of sound, ie, piano vs vocal vs ambient, etc. they’re all over the place. - the descriptions on the soundscapes are also all over the place, some are one sentence that’s vague and doesn’t describe the sound at all, some have an artist bio on the team that created it but no description of the sound, and some are several paragraphs describing the sound and with a story narrative?? Super inconsistent. -You can’t scrub through the length of a session, if you get interrupted you can only start over. -the vibrations aren’t very strong, even all the way up there’s only a few soundscapes that use the full power of the device which in my experience is when I get the most relaxing sensation of the vibrations on my sternum. - I think this should be usable without an app at all. I should be able to just town on the device and it has a couple default vibration modes without having to use the app or pick a soundscape. I usually just use the same one or two soundscapes and turn the volume off and put my own music on, which is a shame for a device that costs 300 to not be very good when used as intended. I feel different and more grounded when I use it but the app looks like a child designed it. It does not perform or look like it goes with a $300 piece of hardware. Please please update the app to look more sophisticated and to work more elegantly. There are no user options or settings. It is simple but non-intuitive. Also, the app needs a battery charge indicator. It's definitely not helping me get to sleep. The app has a bunch of awful "soundscapes" that you have to use in order to use the device. The paid soundscapes might be better but I'm not going to pay for a subscription to something that seems ineffective. It would be much better if I could just activate the device for a session and listen to something I find relaxing like the calm app. ### 1/5 — Okay device. I used this devise about 3-5 times a week. As someone suffering from a dysregulated nervous system, it was really helping me a lot. I am so disappointed that I haven’t heard back from customer service. Their phone number doesn’t work, they don’t respond to emails when you want to return the device after you try it and realize it doesn’t work as advertised. Being a scientist myself, I’ve also enjoyed finding objective ways to measure the efficacy of this device. Great for people who struggle to meditate. ### 5/5 — Saved me during a mild stroke *2025-09-17, version 1.10.10* I’ve been using my Sensate device for 2 years on and off not daily however I was using it more recently as well as my grounding earthing mat and I feel it’s the miracle that allowed me to survive my mild stroke w minimal deficits - only some numbness and tingling in my left fingers and face and left toes ! It was a brainstem Pons area which controls significant systems ! I was glad the Sensate balanced my vagus nerve and minimized the threat even tho my acute HBP from some stress was the culprit the use of these modalities truly saved me ! I love the sounds and vibrations and have highly recommended it to others ! The app is easy to use as well and updates my Mindful Minutes in Apple Health. I’ve signed up to premium so looking forward to future updates as well perhaps some guided meditations or other innovative ideas that I didn’t expect like the Shipping Forecast. I’ve been tracking my heart rate and HRV for a year now using Visible. My HRV tanked last summer and returned to my previous normal within two days of using Sensate. There is a sharp upwards spike on my graph that has remained up ever since. There’s no doubt that this is helping me (in combination with other treatments and management approaches). I tried other VNS devices before Sensate that were overpriced and not a nice experience, generally speaking. Sensate doesn’t feel like a chore—it’s actually enjoyable, relaxing, comfortable and has measurably improved my health.
