I would suggest moving the select and skip buttons. They are too close to the spinners and the clients often touch them by accident. This can be very difficult for Autistic students to deal with. I would also like to see more complex sentences added for the higher functioning students. The last upgrade was good, allowed the therapist more options with reinforcement. ### 3/5 — Pictures & sounds are strange *2015-06-18, version 1.9* I'm a speech language pathologist who works with preschoolers to elementary kids. A great start for language reinforcement bbut need more ### 4/5 — Good Practice for English Learners *2013-07-29, version 1.9* Hey Folks, I'm an English language development teacher at the elementary school level. Building sentences is a regular practice in our classroom. This app offers an engaging, challenging, multi-sensory, puzzle-like approach to the practice. Students really have to think in order to get it right. When they do get it right, there's a fun celebration. The kids and I enjoy the app very much! Two things would improve this app from my perspective: 1) An easy way to switch between students so when an iPad is used in a small group, each student's success could be recorded. (The language card decks by Super Duper Publications have an elegant way to accomplish this. 2) An option to have the words the students select read aloud when students touch them. ### 3/5 — Good app, a few issues *2012-12-12, version 1.8* This is a good app for working on grammar. The kids seem to think of it as a game and enjoy it. My suggestions include making an option for reinforcement after every sentence and allowing multiple players at once. Also, the boxer reinforcer looks a little inappropriate and prompted an inappropriate comment from one of my students. I still gave 3 stars because it works well to target sentence structure, but would give 5 if these issues were resolved. ### 4/5 — Nice app for syntax and grammar *2012-11-29, version 1.8* I am a school-based SLP, and I work with students who have complex communication needs, and this app is a favorite. I do have some wish list items, however: (1) an option for visual reinforcement for every correct answer, for my students with hearing impairment; (2) an option to control scrolling or lock in words for my students with motor planning problems; (3) an option to have a word spoken aloud when touched for my students with limited literacy; (4) an option to show students which words are correct or incorrect when they select, for my students who have impulse control issues or global processing issues/autism, to better help them 'keep trying'. I really like the variety of sentences and sentence structures used in the app. I also appreciate the ability to adjust levels and settings for individual students. Thanks for another great app! ### 4/5 — Good *2012-08-25* Good app but for older kids that can read ### 4/5 — Good for Primary EAL Children *2012-06-08, version 1.7* Great app. Fairly simple to use. Kids love it; especially the different celebration animations when you get the sentences correct. Suggestions: 1) Greater control over certain elements of the sentences, i.e. children who are struggling to organise simple sentences, will find more complex language points, like using 'this', 'that', 'those' a struggle, in the context of organising the sentences as a whole. Whereas 'he', 'she', 'they', 'we', 'you' maybe more appropriate. If we could control pronoun features in options, that would be good. 2) I like the sentence levels (there are 3 levels and they increase in complexity by having a greater number of changeable elements). It would be also good if we could change the complexity of the language used, so that the sentences feature more age-related vocabulary. Some of the sentences were tricky for my year 2s as a result of this. And I suspect they would be too easy for year 3s or 4s. Great app though. Very useful indeed. ### 4/5 — Trevor *2012-05-06* Bought for my special needs daughter - but the audio did not initially work. Notified their support and got an immediate reply. It now works fine. It is a good app with fairly simple options for making simple sentences. ### 2/5 — not for children with fine motor problems *2012-04-16, version 1.7* This app would be great if it followed the format of rainbow sentences. my daughter has great difficulty with fine motor so this app is useless to her. On Level 1, the word sitting is spelled with only one 't', siting. Not good! Other than that, I like this app a lot. I have not played the other levels yet so I don't know if there are other spelling errors or not. ### 4/5 — Terrific for ESL *2012-01-14, version 1.6* I used this today for the first time. I tutor ESL(English as a Second Language) to a Hispanic lady who is 43. This was so very helpful to have her structure her sentences properly. She got a big kick out of the cheers when she got the sentence right. The intent is to describe the displayed picture with a grammatically correct sentence using the word wheel, but the black background to the word-flipping wheel covers the whole page, making the picture impossible to see! Which makes the app completely nonfunctional right now. Frustrating! Also, the visual graphics used as reinforcer do not appear -- only the audio can be heard... Quite lot of information to spend time and teach my child. I know many times we spend one class of therapy by spending same $ but hesitant to spend on app. This is really worth and useful app. My child liked and mainly useful for expressing and initiating the talk. For starters, my kids absolutely love playing and ask for it, which makes it worth it all my itself. But I also like its simplicity. It's easy to use and fun to play. I would only change one thing: the reinforcing voice - "that's right" - isn't very enthusiastic but I've used that with my students as a teaching opportunity to discuss appropriate tone of voice. Lay that on top of traditional sentence structure therapy & you've got a winner! Thanks for a way to drill & practice without boring them!!! ### 5/5 — Extremely Helpful *2012-03-19, version 1.7* I have been using this app with our 7-year-old daughter with special needs since January. We use it 3 to 4 times per week. The focus on word choice is helping with both her written and spoken language skills. This app is great in that she can practice sentence creation before she is able to actually write a sentence. My students are quickly learning to realize the importance that each word in a sentence carries; it is a favorite activity for many of my students. Additionally, the developer is very responsive to issues or concerns. This is a must for SLPs. ### 5/5 — Buy it *2011-12-01, version 1.6* Sentence Builder is something my child can actually succeed at and learn. It does the near impossible of getting a child to use Dolch words in sentences. You can't define these words so teaching them is tough. SentenceBuilder is just challenging enough. There is built in reinforcement. The pace is self controlled. This is a great step to improved language and literacy.
