### 5/5 — Does what it’s supposed to, I think.

*2021-03-26*

I can’t say how good it is at teaching the game, but it DID tell me “this game is not for you”.

Too complex for me. Perhaps I am just ADD, but I knew by the fifth screen that there’s too much and that this wouldn’t be my idea of ‘fun’.
So, for that I’m grateful and I recommended everyone who’s considering the full version give this a download. Obviously many will love the game and use this to actually learn... but a few will fell like I do, and that is an important function here too.

And I will say, the animations and layout seemed lovely.

### 3/5 — Too complicated

*2021-02-09*

Glad for this demo. Seems like a cool game but the text is difficult to read and the gameplay is far too complicated for my taste. Just when I was ready to get going but feeling a bit overwhelmed, along came another game mechanic that pushed me over the edge.

### 5/5 — It is very good

*2020-06-29*

It was good at teaching me the game

### 1/5 — Crashes on ipad when no internet connection present.

*2018-10-16*

Crashes on ipad when no internet connection present - I wanted a game to play offline but the game seems to crash if no internet connection is available. Not gonna buy the full thing if I can't play offline...

### 5/5 — Great

*2018-04-29*

It's good

### 5/5 — First-rate boardgame implementation

*2016-02-21*

These guys have done an excellent job turning a complicated boardgame into a much easier to play computer game. I think it would be easier and therefore much more fun to play on four computers while sitting around the dinner table. Too bad more people don't have iPad Pros!

### 2/5 — not worth $10!!!

*2015-11-16*

The physical version of Sentinels is fun to play with friends, but you have to waste lots of time moving counters around to keep track of different effects. So this digital version should solve that problem by doing all the work for you, right? Sadly, no, this app adaptation of the game is very cumbersome.

The app gets ONE thing very RIGHT - instead of showing your entire hand of cards as tiny, illegible scans of the physical cards (as the Magic games do), cards' text is replaced with symbols to remind you at a glance of what each card does, and you have to actually highlight a card to see its full text. (Although the text on the cards is still the same clunky legalese from the print version of the game). Some of the symbols look way too similar (such as the ones for being able to draw an extra card, and getting to PLAY an extra card) but more developers need to replace card text with symbols!

But other than replacing card text with symbols, pretty much EVERYTHING else is needlessly clunky. It's not a broken MESS like the original version of Xenoshyft, but it's definitely CLUNKY. The key problem is that the devs decided to design the interface to look like a comic-book, instead of making it as intuitive and clean as possible. At one part of the turn, the ENTIRE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SCREEN is devoted to a picture of the supervillain you're fighting! And hey, with that much screen space, at least they'll have clear icons to show that one of your guys stunned the supervillain for a turn, so you don't need to worry about using damage-reducing powers instead of smacking him, right? WRONG! It's up to you to remember that, because again, the interface is all about looking like a comic instead of letting you easily choose what cards to play.

When you have a choice related to how a card or power is played, the choice is often explained in the most technical, unintuitive way possible.-

You know how great it is in Hearthstone that minions, spells and weapon cards are all clearly visually distinguised different frames? Because in Sentinels, despite being a more complicated system, all the cards look the same and just have a MESS of keyword text (like "equipment, relic, limited") for you to wade through.

The game also uses the same UGLY art from the physical version, except now we're treated to a hideous shot of all the heroes facing the player, but looking to the side.
