### 5/5 — Great concept and execution!

*2026-02-10, version 4.18*

This app is awesome. Not only is the idea genius, but the execution is great. It’s so easy to set up and start reading, everything is on your schedule, and the reading experience is great. Such a good way to read all those books you meant to read forever ago!

### 5/5 — YES!

*2026-01-02, version 4.18*

This app is excellent. As an avid reader, but now a new mother, it gives me achievable reading times that I feel I can conquer in the minimum time I get for myself!

### 5/5 — Fave reading app

*2025-12-15, version 4.18*

Absolutely amazing app everyone should have

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2025-11-25, version 4.18*

Very user-friendly interface. I’m amazed by how much reading I can get done using this format!

### 5/5 — Exactly what I needed.

*2025-10-19, version 4.18*

Most of the classics you want in a digestible amount of time. You can push yourself to read more or be satisfied with just the effort for today. I have been surprised by how consistent I have been using the app. You very quickly chew through books you’ve been putting off for years. Highly recommend especially those with a busy schedule.

### 5/5 — Amazing concept & execution

*2025-09-26, version 4.18*

All the books you know you should have read by now, delivered in accessible, bite-sized chunks. It becomes a pleasant mission to keep up with each day's 10-15 minute section, which are delivered automatically at whatever time of day you choose. So far my experience has been that the books are sensibly and logically divided into sections almost as if that was the way they were intended to be read. I can't say enough about the work Michael has put into his continuing project.

Use this app. The books are public domain and daily delivery is free. So pay the onetime $2.99 upgrade, which is the only support for the work he puts into it.

### 5/5 — Thank you so much Michael!

*2025-09-24, version 4.18*

As a neurodivergent person trying to recover from burnout, I really do appreciate the pacing of serial and the accessibility of the app. I haven’t read for fun in years but I feel it slowly coming back ❤️

### 5/5 — Love this!

*2025-09-20, version 4.18*

What a wonderful idea for a book app!! Loving having a plan everyday!

### 5/5 — A Peaceful Refuge

*2025-09-01, version 4.18*

This app brings me along to examples of antique, wonderful craft in little tastes that make me crave more. Already I have been defaulting to Serial Reader instead of other things that feel more like a waste of time than literature.

### 5/5 — Great way to read the classics

*2025-08-16, version 4.18*

I’ve really been enjoying this app. A one time charge of $3 is a great deal to be able to read as much as I want a day. There is a large selection of works to choose from. The creator is also quick to respond to emails and questions! I can also tell that each section/serial is hand selected: the breaking points for each day feel very natural and lead to ease of reading every day. Thanks to this app I’ve read a lot of great works I would not otherwise have picked up or found.

### 4/5 — Mostly great

*2025-07-18, version 4.18*

My only real complaint is that you can’t configure the settings to change the length of the issues. 20 minutes per issue is too long if I’m reading several books at the same time.

### 5/5 — I flippin love this app.

*2025-07-16, version 4.18*

Kindle is cool, Apple Books is a-ok, but Serial Reader is SERIOUSLY RAD. Easy to navigate, fun little details like badges, and the selection of books to read is fabulous! Expect the well-known classics, but also keep an eye out for obscure titles—it’s a great place to rediscover forgotten gems. I hope Mr. Schmitt keep this app going for a long, long time.

### 5/5 — LOVE this app

*2025-06-23, version 4.18*

I thoroughly enjoy using this app. I downloaded it to encourage me to get back into the habit of reading. I love that I have so many classics at my fingertips. I purchased the very affordable unlock so that I could pause my serials and collect highlights. I really love using this app every day, I was finally able to read Alice in Wonderland after putting off my interest in ir for years. Thank you so much for creating this!

### 5/5 — Beautiful & simple

*2025-06-09, version 4.18*

I am an avid lover of classic literature but this app just makes it even more fun! Thank you!

### 5/5 — Yes!

*2025-05-21, version 4.18*

Books in chunks!

### 5/5 — Great idea, great app

*2025-05-18, version 4.18*

This app is a great way to read more and organize your reading. A must have app for readers.

### 5/5 — just a great app

*2025-05-09, version 4.18*

I really enjoy this app. It’s part of my quiet morning routine - a cup of coffee, a wam cat purring on my lap and reading via the Serial app. It’s simple, does a couple things really well, and leaves the rest to the user. Thank you to whoever wrote this.

### 5/5 — Bite-size classics!

*2025-04-14, version 4.17*

This app breaks full literary works into daily readings. It is simple to use and offers encouragement along the way. Definitely recommend!!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — I didn’t receive my new issue as promised

*2024-12-29, version 4.17*

Your app promised me I would get a new issue at the time I set. So I set it for 9 am to get a new issue of Aesop’s Fables, and I never got it this morning. Instead, it said I had to wait another 24 hours. I don’t care if it only is two dollars to upgrade, I thought this feature was free. So I think I’ll just forget it and read somewhere else

### 1/5 — The girl from Montana Grace Livingston Hill

*2019-02-17, version 3.53*

Not rating the book just your app. Grace is my favorite author I would never give her a bad review. It’s a different story where you’re concerned. Like the idea if you had something more than the classics. I think everyone is going to feel the same way. Need more of my grace Livingston hill hill. Will not purchase until I try it more. But what makes it a pain to try is you even have to pay to get a bookmark all the other ones give samples and they give you a bookmark come on give us a book mark. How cheap and tacky and less you give a bookmark for free I’m not even finishing the preview let alone purchasing the book

### 1/5 — Problème

*2016-07-31*

L'application est complètement plantée. Je ne peux ni l'ouvrir ni la virer

### 2/5 — Faulty Widget

*2026-04-10, version 4.18*

The widget isn’t working. It’s just a blank rectangle. When I hold it down and select edit widget, it does nothing.

### 2/5 — Doesn't always work

*2024-03-17, version 4.16*

Its a fine app but for whatever reason it doesn't always work for me on my 9th gen ipad. I tested the app out using Alice in Wonderland which was provided with the app. The first chapter or two was fine, I got the notification at the time I wanted each day (at 9pm) but then after that I either didn't get a notification and then missed a couple of chapters, or I got a notification and when I opened the app there is no new chapter. The only chapter is the one I read the night before which is marked read. There is an option to "read ahead" to the chapter I should have got, but nothing else, no new chapter. Its a shame because otherwise this seemed like a decent app, and a good way to read a book, chapter by chapter.

### 2/5 — Impossible de tester sans payer

*2022-12-20*

**Developer response:** Thanks for your review! I’m sorry for answering in English but I’m unfortunately not fluent in French. And I apologize for the confusion but you are mistaken on Serial Reader’s features. You can read Serial Reader’s entire library of books for free and you can add 1 of your own EPUB books to be auto serialized. You can read the entirety of those books in daily issues. On day 1 you will only have the first issue to read, but you should receive the next segment on the next day, and so on until you’ve read the entire book. I hope this helps, thank you for trying my app and please reach out directly if I can help with anything else! -Michael

### 2/5 — Review

*2017-09-18, version 3.03*

Previously great app ruined by recent updates.

### 2/5 — Good idea, but buggy

*2016-02-26, version 1.02*

I just started with this app and was well into a Philip K. Dick story, when it reset. It wants me to pick my first novel. Ahem... I already had. Well, I'm not starting all over again, nor am I going to bother with another one that will probably do the same thing.

It doesn't sync to other devices either, so that certainly doesn't help any.

### 3/5 — Hard to read missed issues

*2025-10-24, version 4.18*

I like the app, but if I didn’t read an issue and I “save up” reading issues per say, it won’t let me read the ones I missed. It’s getting to where I can’t even read the ones from yesterday that I missed when I could before. That needs to be fixed.

### 3/5 — Good in most ways except for one…

*2024-01-17, version 4.16*

The highlight and note system (menu?) is so clunky and annoying to use. You have to exit the book your reading to be able to see your notes which is frustrating, and you can only high light with gray or yellow (depending on if your using dark mode or light mode).

I like this app otherwise, especially the fact that you can add epubs to it! Wish there was a way to add ebooks im borrowing from libraries on here.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — 6 Stars

*2026-08-18, version 4.18*

Amazing app works very well and a great idea!

The free version is great on its own and fair and the paid version is only £2.99 one time purchase?! An absolute steal I cannot recommend this enough

### 5/5 — Best app ever

*2026-07-22, version 4.18*

Love it!

### 5/5 — Fave reading app

*2026-07-16, version 4.18*

Absolutely amazing app, everyone should have it! My favorite way to read books. I love that the developer is an individual, and I would encourage everyone to support him even by just writing a review.

### 5/5 — Yummy books

*2026-06-05, version 4.18*

This app is like free candy for a kid, except the free candy is knowledge and the kid is nerds like me. This app is great and I love it

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-05-25, version 4.18*

Work the cost of the premium version. Using this app has trebled the number of books I read each year.

### 5/5 — Hooked

*2026-05-17, version 4.18*

I am able to on a daily basis read books I might never had found the time to read. I am hooked on this way to read great literature

### 5/5 — Wonderful app

*2026-04-16, version 4.18*

Love reading on this app. Great selection. Congratulations to the creative mind(s) behind bringing back serialised reading. THANKS.

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2026-04-03, version 4.18*

I have been a huge reader since I was very, very young. My favorites have always been the classics. This app introduced me to many, many, classics that I have never even heard of so it gave me the opportunity to explore different classics and new authors (new to me). Most classics are rather big books with over 500 pages. This app allows you to read just a little each day without getting overwhelmed by how many pages the books actually are and how many pages you have left to go to finish the book. I participate in reading challenges through Goodreads and one of the challenges is to read a book with over 500 pages. Having this app allows me to finish the challenge much easier!

### 5/5 — Wonderful!

*2026-03-14, version 4.18*

This app is a treasure trove of classic (and some more obscure) literature, each presented in bite-sized nibbles so that even the largest of works don’t seem so daunting.

### 5/5 — A Peaceful Refuge

*2026-02-23, version 4.18*

This app brings me along to examples of antique, wonderful craft in little tastes that make me crave more. Already I have been defaulting to Serial Reader instead of other things that feel more like a waste of time than literature.
