Could use better colour coding to indicate locked vs unlocked. Navigation to the settings is bit confusing and could be made easier on the front page. Setting dates for guest access is not really clear, autolock would work better if there were intervals of 5 seconds. ### 3/5 — Ok, but logs out *2021-03-08* It’s ok when it works, but I have my apps set to auto update and this thing logs you out each time it gets and update. So I am sometimes standing at my door wondering if this is broken before I have to get out my phone and realize that it logged me out 😞 ### 3/5 — Add to Apple Watch *2020-11-28* Could you please please please add the Apple Watch into the complications so can be added to the watch face? Would love if this was updated to include an iOS 14 widget! ### 2/5 — Woke up to the door open *2019-04-27* Woke up one morning to the door unlocked and wide open. The app reported that it opened at 1am when we were in bed by an app but didn’t show user and it wasn’t one of use. Never got the WiFi plug for it through I originally pledged for it. There are way better devices now on the market so this was a nice idea but a waste of money on a now outdated product. ### 2/5 — Mediocre device, lackluster app missing support *2019-02-01* Ignoring the fact that this thing took years to ship (and another year on top of that for the WiFi bridge), the device works most of the time, but takes a while to connect and occasionally loses connection for periods of time. But the lack of HomeKit support is the real deal breaker here. This is exactly the type of thing that HomeKit is made for, and supports sharing access between users out of the box. ### 2/5 — Wth happened? *2018-11-20* I have been using three of these locks for more than a year now and they have been reasonably reliable. However, for the last month, the history no longer works properly. I used to be able to see when the locks were manually opened or closed, now it only shows when I last opened or closed the locks from my phone. Wth good is that? I know when I open and lock my doors and have no need for the history feature if it only shows my personal usage. I used to be able to see when my other locations were last entered and that was useful. Please fix this! **Developer response:** Sorry to hear about this issue! Thank you! ### 4/5 — Please fix - latest update logs out repeatedly *2018-11-19* Love sesame - I’m a kickstarter backer from back in the day. With the last update, myself and other users in the house are being logged out after each use of the app. Whenever we open it we have to log back in for each use. Thank you! ### 2/5 — Ok... when it works *2018-10-15* Intermittent, which is not the description you want for the front door lock to your house. Auto Unlock works about 60% of the time. It’s pretty rare that it won’t connect at all, but it’s happened. Sometimes it will just decide to unlock when I’m upstairs in my house. User management through the app is a bit intermittent as well. Often, I will get a time out error that it’s not connected to the “candy server” but I’m online and connected to the unit via Bluetooth. I wanted to like this much more than I do, and I have to hear about its failings from my wife every other day, so I will likely go buy a real solution, and retire this fun toy. ### 1/5 — Unreliable *2018-10-12* I’m having nothing but problems with this. I can not reliably leave my keys at home thinking this will unlock. We have the WiFi module, and the latest version on iPhone X and Xs. 50% of the time I try to use it or more, it will connect, but won’t unlock the door. So I sit in front of the door, like an idiot trying reconnect via BT or WiFi hoping it’ll make the little buzzing sound. I’m at the point where I’m going to smash it with a hammer. Luckily I have an iris system at home and it works 100% of the time. Update, still has issues. When trying to connect via Bluetooth it cycles between connected and disconnected. Today it only took me 1 minute to open the stupid lock because I’m used to turning BT and WiFi on and off to trick the app into connecting. I’ll be selling this soon. ### 1/5 — Not worth it *2018-09-21, version 1.38* Not worth it at all. Your order will take forever and you’ll only receive half the product. ### 1/5 — Locked out+paying for Locksmith *2018-09-14* Sesame suddenly can’t connect with the app. Tried using my good old key, but the fried up motor won’t let me open the door. Then had to get a locksmith to come and pay him $$$$ cause this happened at 8PM when I got off work. Sesame is going into my trashcan for sure. Going back to my trusty keys, but at least they’re not stupid enough to lock me out and cost me $$$$ in the end. ### 2/5 — Issues I can’t seem to resolve *2018-08-18* The app on my phone works well to un/lock the lock. My watch face times out/sleeps before it connects to the lock, using Bluetooth. I added my dog walker, but she can only intermittently un/lock the door. When I try submit a request via support link in App Store I’m asked to enter a log in information. There’s no option to start a new account and my iTunes account info isn’t working. The website on my phone doesn’t have a link to sign in or create an account. So no troubleshooting is possible, yet. **Developer response:** Sorry about the issues you've had! Got it as Backer #20 on Kickstarter and it’s saved us SO many times! Opened the door for someone from another country! I loaded the new Apple Watch but it keeps giving me an error message that I don’t have a Sesame account even though I clearly have a one on paired iPhone. Complications won’t work on the Apple Watch. Garbage company. ### 1/5 — Died, returned, no refund. *2021-11-27* Unit died before two weeks so it definitely will not last 500 days for you and if you rely on this it will get you locked out. No Wifi adapter yet and hardware is not compatible with Homekit and the secret knock feature isn't happening so there is no compelling reason to buy this product as it's ONLY bluetooth dongle for your lock, and since bluetooth is slower to connect as you a have to open the app and then wait for the connection you aren't saving any time over using your keys. Thank you! ### 1/5 — Does not work with iOS 14 or above *2021-08-03, version 1.46* Candy House has not updated this app since 2019 and Apple iOS has updated security protocols several times since then. This app and the Sesame worked great until CH stopped updating the app to be compatible. ### 1/5 — Handy... but not really *2021-06-07* The idea of being able to unlock my door without scrambling for my keys every time is great. Then I bought a Sesame. I showed it off to all of my friends. Then the software would forget who I am (it’s still in Beta, isn’t it?) sometimes I had to just log in, always when I was in a hurry. Then the Sesame would go crazy and forget my phone! Btw, that’s where it is today. The other one I bought hasn’t worked at all. It only sometimes opens the door when Bluetooth is connected but worst of all you can’t create shortcuts to tell Siri to lock/unlock the door. Now I have to go to Home Depot tomorrow and invest in a new lock. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Love them *2024-06-16* I've had two of these Sesame locks since their kickstarter campaign years ago and they're still working great everday. My only concern is lack of support and updates. I want to integrate this with Homekit without having to use homebridge. I hope they're not abandoned because I would keep buying more and recommending them. ### 5/5 — Solution to most of the problems with Sesame’s bad connection *2019-07-09, version 1.45* From my experience using Sesame for years, the solution for “disconnected” and waiting to connect while standing in front of your door is to have your access point literally in within less than 5 feet away from the door, doing this will minimize the time for sesame to disconnect or connect itself from WiFi access point to Bluetooth. Sesame needs time to disconnect itself from the access point before allowing you to connect thru Bluetooth, and putting the WiFi access point as close as possible to your door where the sesame is will definitely improve the connection but if your WiFi access point is over 5 to 10 feet away from the door, then it’s better off you make sure your phone is already connected to your homes WiFi with your Bluetooth on before opening Sesame app. Another way is to open your sesame app from within out of range of your homes WiFi(for example: before you get to your driveway) and then unlock it immediately before you get in range to your homes WiFi network, because the problem is... if you access sesame remotely from far away(like if you’re not home and wanting to unlock your door for somebody) sesame uses the WiFi access point to do that, but once you’re in Sesame’s WiFi and Bluetooth range, sesame automatically disconnects itself from the WiFi access point(which is the headache because this is what takes forever). And then of course we all have no patience and tries to disconnect and connect our WiFi or Bluetooth on our phones, which makes it worse cuz Sesame gets confused and keeps disconnecting and connecting to the WiFi access point in which takes time and you’ll wait even longer and longer. So the only 3 solution like I said 1). Is to plug your WiFi access point less than 4 feet away from your door which is where the sesame is, 2). Use only the Bluetooth function(so only open sesame app when your phone is already connected to your homes WiFi and the Bluetooth is turned on), 3). Open Sesame app and unlock the door from far away(as long as your phone is not connected to your homes WiFi, and no Bluetooth either). ### 5/5 — Sometimes it doesn’t work but overall great *2018-07-13, version 1.37* Fairly reliable. The Apple Watch app works now. ### 5/5 — THIS IS THE BEST *2018-04-10* This lock is simply the best! Everything else is a nightmare for a renter, requires installation and special lock. This sticks right over any lock and works like a charm! The ONLY thing it needs... is HomeKit support! Come on guys—I wanna be able to say Hey Siri, lock my door! Having use it ever since i can say that it does work pretty accurately for what it offers. It allows you to manually unlock your door, it allows you to lock your door based on a timer and it gets the Bluetooth connection pretty quick and from far away. However if you use the widget to unlock the door, it still brings you to the actual app to click to unlock. All activities related to the lock remain local to Bluetooth because the wifi dongle is not ready, geofencing and knock to open are beta so basically don’t count until they are officially part of the mainstream app. And last but not least there is no HomeKit to be seen anywhere around. On a side note: Supposedly homekit could still be reached via software update as apparently apple will allow it, but from that to actually happening is another story. All being said. If you are looking for a simple lock/unlock device to control your door without your actual key. Sesame could be a good option. Ohhh and I forgot. Battery life does go a looooooooong way. Sesame gives me peace of mind she isn't going to open the door and leave the safety of our home. It is especially helpful when guest come over and may not remember to lock the deadbolt after entry.
