## What is SessionTrail?

SessionTrail — the photographer's session journal.

Plan a shoot. Record it on the trail. Reflect on what worked. SessionTrail is a journal-first photography app where the session — not the individual frame — is the atom.

PLAN WITH INTENT
Title, location, planned window, scoped tags. Auto-geocoded city + country. MapKit picker for precise coordinates. Pre-shoot checklist with reusable templates. Gear kit with snapshot semantics — your loadout survives renames in your gear catalog. Reference images via PHPicker. NOAA-based conditions snapshot for sunrise, sunset, golden / blue / civil / nautical / astronomical twilight, moon phase + rise / set, and Milky Way galactic-core visibility — all on-device, no network needed.

SHOOT WITH THE FIELD LOG OPEN
Background GPX recording. Photo log per frame with subject, lens, filter, frame number, and stabilization setup (handheld, tripod, monopod, gimbal, slider, drone). Voice memos with titles. Quick reference snaps via the iPhone camera. Pause / resume creates separate segments in the GPX file.

REFLECT AND SHIP
Editable session times. Map polyline preview of the recorded track. Five reflection prompts (what worked, what didn't, lessons, conditions vs. expectation, free notes). 0–5 star rating. - Fixed an issue where reapplying a checklist or session template after syncing to another device could accidentally clear items you'd already checked off.
- GPS tracking and voice memo recording now keep going when you switch between Plan, Shoot, and Review mid-session — previously that could silently interrupt an active recording.
- Fixed a crash when filtering trips by year.
- Fixed a crash that could occur while loading reference image thumbnails.
- Moonrise/moonset and Milky Way visibility times in Conditions are now accurate — a calculation error could previously show them off by several hours.
- "Use my location" no longer hangs if a location fix takes too long.
- "Show onboarding again" in Help now works correctly.
- Fixed audio issues that could leave the microphone active or interrupt other apps' audio after playing a voice memo.
- Various other stability improvements.

Your shoot data is now safer than ever — plus two features you can see.
Live Activity: an active GPX recording now shows on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island — elapsed time, logged points, and pause state at a glance.
Voice memo transcription: transcribe memos right on your device. Audio never leaves your iPhone.
Crash-proof GPX recording: if the app is ever interrupted mid-shoot — dead battery, force quit — your track is recovered automatically at next launch.
Voice memos now survive interruptions like phone calls and continue recording.
Deleting a session now also removes its files from your device, as expected.
New in Settings: Storage — see how much space your sessions use and clean up leftover files from earlier versions.
Large bundle exports no longer freeze the app.
Clearer feedback when a recording captured no GPS fix.
