First Rate All the Way! *2024-02-17* Sfjazz saved me during Covid when I was sequestered in my home, trying to stay safe and sane. The online concerts were wonderful in every way, and kept me connected to the music community. Now I’m ready to return to sfjazz to watch the shows live as I did before Covid. Thank you to the entire sfjazz staff for working so hard to keep this level of excellence both live and online, and to provide such a magnificent space for all the very fine musicians. Every major city in the country should be so fortunate to have something similar. Attending performances in the SFJazz facility - which houses two state of the art venues - is a regular highlight for those of us who live in San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area. This app does an excellent job of reproducing as well as possible the performance experience. If you can’t physically be in attendance - or, if you want to experience again a performance you were lucky enough to attend - you’ll be very pleased! ### 5/5 — Excellent App to support an excellent program *2023-08-18* SF Jazz continued to reach its audiences through the pandemic with Fridays at Five looking to keep itself alive as well as getting money into artist’s pockets. And still, after reopening with live performances, has kept the program vibrant with Fridays at 7:30p when they could have shut it down to get bodies in seats versus this cheaper version of seeing concerts online. Such an incredible organization spreading the music. This app works great on my iPad and Apple TV to view the digital concerts. Highly recommend using it for the online concerts and more. The quality (both audio and visual) is top notch. You feel as if you’re at the venue listening to some of the world’s greatest musicians. Meanwhile, I’m on the east coast experiencing a performance occurring 3,000 miles away. The only issue is the 3 hour time difference, but they do allow you to revisit the concert the following day at a more reasonable time. Works equally well on my phone or TV. The password works just fine on the SF Jazz website. I suspect the app doesn’t accept certain special characters in passwords. This needs to be fixed! ### 1/5 — Passwords out of sync *2021-09-21, version 7.201.1* My very secure password for SFJAZZ.org, which works just fine, doesn’t work for the app, so every time I try to log into the app, I have to have it send me a sign-in link. Once I am finally logged into the app, I can find nowhere to fix the password. Shots of the whole band should dominate the video. ### 3/5 — Roku version: exasperating *2023-08-26, version 8.200.1* This review is for the Roku version because it does NOT allow one to write about their rating. So, after sfJazz launched their app it was and is frustrating to log in because one canNOT use established member login info. One has to “reset” their account to receive an email from the org. Then one is to create a new password (or just input one’s existing password). The existing (old) password will work because the video is actually from Vimeo that sfJazz doesNOT disclose. Vimeo uses the domain .tv which is Tuvalu’s country code that some web hosts block. To get around that, one has to deal with spam from Tuvalu. Sigh. Then the app works, until it doesn’t. I’m a sfJazz member and when trying to watch the Friday Live shows, the app states availability will be on that Saturday with no explanation of why it’s not showing on Friday (that’s what I paid for). Heck this is useless because the Friday performances are viewable on the computer with some browsers. BTW: I also tried the iOS app and had the same access issues as above. ### 3/5 — SF Jazz at Home *2023-08-17* This is a nice app for watching SF Jazz recordings, but it is frustrating that it doesn't do more, like allow you to purchase tickets and then automatically update your calendar, like Eventbrite does. Also, I didn't like that the app requested access to my contacts or location - this seems Facebook level invasive and there's no remotely legit reason to request this access. Why would SF Jazz be seeking to collect that info? One more suggestion: the app should automatically put the location of events (at SF Jazz) that it's creating in your calendar as SF Jazz, instead of leaving it blank for you to fill in. But all in all, a nice looking app with beautiful visuals. Thank you! ### 5/5 — Wonderful Treat *2024-12-22* SFJazz at home is a gift for the ears, heart and spirit. I can listen from Boston to some of my favorite artists and learn about some I didn’t know. The sound quality is great even though it’s a stream. Being in Boston, I listen while I’m settling in at the end of a Friday night. I love the new format with the recordings and extras. It is the best bargain in town. Hopefully I will get to the music hall in SanFrancisco but for now I am enjoying listening to the concerts online.
