### 1/5 — Doesn’t work with AirPods

*2020-01-07, version 0.14.53*

Doesn’t work with my airpods pro, and I have no other way of listening to the audio without distracting others.

### 1/5 — No AirPods

*2019-12-28, version 0.14.53*

Doesn’t recognize AirPods.

### 1/5 — the worst museum app i’ve ever used

*2019-12-05, version 0.14.53*

it, for example, doesn’t allow you to use airpods or headphones. so you have to hold the phone up to your ear?

### 1/5 — Absolute crap

*2019-08-06, version 0.14.34*

App does not even work. Says “trouble connecting to internet” even when connected to the museums free WiFi. What a shame.

### 1/5 — Never worked

*2019-07-29, version 0.14.34*

Downloaded this for the Warhol exhibit, but it never played past the first 10-15 seconds before stopping every time.

### 1/5 — Garbage. Crashes. Doesn’t work

*2019-07-20, version 0.14.34*

I live in SF and am an SFMOMA member. I’ve downloaded and tried to use this app multiple times over the last year Including today for the Warhol exhibit. It crashed multiple times on startup. Further myself and my daughter went to the trouble of downloading all the museum exhibit data into our two phones before visiting. Got to museum and it didn’t work. Only cellular streaming of the narration worked. Don’t bother using this app. I think they want to force you to rent their audio. Guides

### 1/5 — Abysmal quality

*2019-06-01, version 0.14.31*

This ping ponging between two apps is ridiculous, and the app doesn’t support iPhone X. SFMOMA deserves something better.

### 1/5 — Nothing Here Anymore

*2019-04-17, version 0.14.30*

So I downloaded the new app and it just hangs and does not open. It does not matter whether I am at the museum or not. The app fails to launch.

### 1/5 — No AirPods

*2019-03-22, version 0.14.26*

I tried to use this app today and i couldn’t get it to work with my AirPods. I ended up listening to a few of the audio clips by turning up my volume and using it like a speaker which I thought was distracting to other guests so I stopped after 2 or 3. The few clips I did listen to were okay informationally but I found the background noise in the audio a bit distracting. The whole experience was lackluster. Great idea but poor execution.

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2019-02-02, version 0.14.26*

Complained that it needs an internet connection to start, while I was clearly connected, and refused to do anything else.

### 1/5 — No AirPods support

*2019-01-08, version 0.14.26*

Does not support Bluetooth headphones/AirPods. I feel like playing audio on the iPhone speaker would be rude to other museum patrons???

### 2/5 — Does not support Bluetooth headphones

*2018-12-31, version 0.14.26*

Would not work with my AirPods, needed to bring my phone up to me ear. Please update!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — SFMOMA audio

*2022-07-23, version 1.5*

Very frustrating to use because its synching via Bluetooth with my headphones was erratic, and most of the time didn't work. Deleting the app and then downloading it anew seemed to fix the problem, but only for a while. Eventually I discovered that the audio was being delivered to the the tiny speaker at the top of the phone, used in normal cell-phone communication mode. No other app I have that uses audio has behaved this way. (iPhone 12 pro max)

### 1/5 — Terrible App, No Headphone Support?

*2022-06-19, version 1.5*

An audio guide app that doesn’t support headphones. I guess I’m expected to just walk around with my phone speaker blasting the audio guide to other guests? Or just hold my phone to my face for 3 hours. What a ridiculous decision.

### 1/5 — Audio issues

*2021-07-29, version 1.3*

Headphones don’t work with the app on new iPhones, making it essentially useless

### 1/5 — No AirPod support

*2021-05-27, version 1.2*

Visually the app looks fine, but the audio support doesn’t work with wireless headphones for some reason.

### 1/5 — No Bluetooth audio

*2021-03-14, version 1.2*

This app is basically an audio guide and it doesn’t even work with Bluetooth headphones.

### 1/5 — So limited

*2020-03-05, version 0.14.53*

It’s somehow useful for the audio tours, but the interface and content are incredibly limited and dated. Actually, all SF museums, which are excellent, have extremely poor apps.

### 1/5 — volume was so faint

*2020-02-21, version 0.14.53*

Even after maximizing the phone’s volume, audio was so small that it was not possible to hear anything.

### 1/5 — Doesn't work with airpods

*2020-02-16, version 0.14.53*

Bummer

### 1/5 — Does not work with airpods

*2020-01-28, version 0.14.53*

Disappointing.

### 1/5 — Just doesn’t work

*2020-01-12, version 0.14.53*

On my iPhone X running iOS 13, this app just doesn’t work. It thinks it’s playing, but creates no sound. A real bummer MOMA

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I Can Help With the Headphone Issue!

*2021-07-05, version 1.3*

Even though the app has a new version, it's great! I think we have to get used to the changes, which might take some bits of time.

I can explain how to use wireless headphones on the app. First, go to "Settings", and then tap "Audio Prefrences". Next, tap the built in speaker option, and then connect your headphones. If you already connected you headphones, you have got a bit of a headstart!

I really hope this works for you and other users!

### 5/5 — This is the SFMoMA app to download for audio tours

*2018-05-18, version 0.14.10*

I had been struggling to get the other app to work, and a security guard at the SFMoMA today told me to download this app, and it works like a charm! Got to hear all the Magritte descriptions, had no problems with playback. So nice.

### 4/5 — Great app

*2021-07-09, version 1.3*

Works great with Lightning cable earphones. Yes sorry for the throwback. I brought them along just in case having seen the complaining re inability to use Bluetooth earphones. The volume was fine with the cable earphones. I can understand the supposed low-volume so as to not bother other museum visitors if holding iPhone to ones ears. Minus one star because of the circular redundancy in the app.

### 4/5 — Great content, basic interface

*2020-01-30, version 0.14.53*

I was sad to learn that Detour (the startup that used to do the S.F. MoMA App) went out of business. This new app is...fine. Basically a traditional audio guide interface. The audio content is still pretty great, though. The folks know how to tell a good story about artwork.

### 4/5 — Overall, the app worked well yesterday

*2019-08-25, version 0.14.34*

Based on the bad reviews, I almost didn’t get the app before my visit to the museum yesterday. It worked fine for me. I was using a cellular connection. I had only one small complaint. When touring the Andy Warhol exhibit, if you accidentally clicked on “next” before you wanted to, there wasn’t a “back” button. The Warhol section of the app was the same as the audio tour you could pay for at the museum for $7 ($4 for members).

### 3/5 — Worse than the original

*2018-06-09, version 0.14.14*

Here are the problems vs. the old version: fewer tours, no ability to take pictures along the way, no ability to sync location, and no directions. It’s also not optimized for iPhone X. What are you doing, SFMoMA?

### 2/5 — Can't Connect to Airpods

*2021-05-11, version 1.2*

I do love the wealth of information available through the app, but it no longer supports playback over airpods, which is a real shame.

### 2/5 — AirPods not working

*2021-05-01, version 1.2*

Doesn’t work with AirPods which pretty much renders it useless. Can hold the phone to your ear but that is a real hassle. Seems like they’ve given up on this app

### 2/5 — Good content but what happened to the innovative features?

*2019-01-13, version 0.14.26*

I used this today with my AirPods successfully. The content is simply fantastic but I do remember using this a while back where I could keep my phone in my pocket and it would guide me around. I had to rumble with my phone constantly today and it took away from my enjoyment. I wonder what happened.

### 2/5 — does not work with AirPods

*2019-01-07, version 0.14.26*

I don’t mind so much that the app still isn’t formatted for iPhone X style displays. But I’m perplexed at an audio app that was somehow built to not work with AirPods at all.
