Always strong content and beautifully put together. App is okay but has three major issues: 1) restoring previous purchases after a device change is hugely frustrating 2) does not support the full real estate of the iPhone Xs Max 3) Does not include the free gifts given with the print edition ### 3/5 — Good app but not perfect *2015-03-02* Works well most of the time - more stable now than previous versions but does not always remember the last page read which is a pain ### 4/5 — To much Who *2015-02-05* I've been a reader of SFX for roughly 20 odd years now and a subscriber to the digital version for the last 18 months. I can't fault the digital version at all it works to perfection and I prefer it to the print version where dare I say the pages are of a low quality. The only gripe I have is Doctor Who always gets maximum points even though it's junk sci fi 😉 ### 3/5 — Issues with latest update *2014-10-09* Mag is excellent, however the iPad app no longer saves the last read location. The magazine starts at the front cover on each launch. Very annoying. ### 1/5 — So so *2014-01-10* I was disappointed to not find any mention of shows like Continuum. Very fanboy. No, having one of your female writers discuss "the male gaze" doesn't make up for it. How about have some of your male writers speak out too? ### 4/5 — Useless app *2013-04-12* the magazine is ok and probably worth buying. The app is useless and doesn't work at all. Wasted so much time and money trying to make it work. If this buggy app forces a restore ( and it will) you can only restore ALL of your previous purchases all at the same time. Rubbish! You think I'm exaggerating? I'm not. Not only that but it keeps freezing so I have to periodically 'check in' on how the download is going and restart it. Woeful. ### 1/5 — Don't download *2012-10-17* Just tried to download the issue and they've don't it again, over 600mbs per magazine and it freezes all the time. I've just cancelled my subscription as I did with Total Film don't waste your money. When you contact the publishers they do nothing. I've subscribed to it for years. This app is appalling. I switched from papaer to digital edition last August and, like others, have found it takes many attempts to download the magazine. I usually end up reading it 2 weeks after it comes out! This month I've been completely unable to download the magazine, and Future Net appear unwilling/unable to help or refund. I highly recommend you read the mag, just buy a paper copy and save yourself pain and money ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Fantastic magazine, awful app *2022-02-24* I’m a big fan of SFX the magazine but this app is terrible. Restoring purchases takes ages, crashing 9 times out of 10. I’ve subscribed digitally but the current magazine doesn’t have the ability to Download. It takes several attempts at reinstalling the app to restore and claim the current issue, if it works at all. It gives you great information on everything you could want in the field of entertainment. It isn't a "Star" or "Entertainment Weekly", but it is a very good source of information on what was/is/will be on all of the important and entertaining news that you could want. I like the fact that it's an exact replica of the physical magazine, rather than a related but different version like the Total Film app, and in many ways its actually easier to read than the physical mag. I have a couple of quibbles - occasionally it freezes when moving between pages, and the zooming can lose the plot once in a while, but a quick app reset always sorts it out.
