## What is ShadowLib?

ShadowLib turns audio and video you already have into a focused shadowing workout. Import a clip, attach its subtitle file, and the app splits it into sentences you can loop, slow down, and repeat until the rhythm sticks.

IMPORT YOUR OWN MATERIAL
• Add audio and video from Files or your photo library (MP3, M4A, WAV, MP4, MOV, WebM)
• Attach an SRT or VTT subtitle file to practice sentence by sentence
• Add a second subtitle file to show translations alongside the original
• No subtitle file? Play and record over the whole clip as it is

PRACTICE SENTENCE BY SENTENCE
• Jump to any line from the sentence list, or search for the one you want
• Set a loop count and let a sentence repeat while you shadow it
• Slow playback down until you can keep up, then bring it back to speed
• Blind mode hides the text so you train your ear instead of reading
• Show or hide the translation whenever you need it

RECORD AND COMPARE
• Tap once to record yourself shadowing
• Play your take back against the original
• Re-record as many times as you like

KEEP YOUR LIBRARY IN ORDER
• Organize materials into folders
• Filter by audio, video, or recently played
• Search material titles
• See how many times you have practiced each material
• Pick up where you left off with Continue last practice

BUILT TO STAY OUT OF THE WAY
• Light and dark themes
• English and Chinese interface
• Set your default playback speed and loop count once

Your practice recordings stay on your device.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.0 — 2026-08-22

- Transcription (experimental): turn a material's own audio into sentences, on your device. iOS only.
- Transcription runs in the background: pause it, resume where it stopped, or retry.
- Turn on "Transcribe after importing" to get a draft of the sentences right after import.
- AI text to speech (experimental): describe an idea and the app writes the text and speaks it, with length, difficulty, and style to choose from.
- Add a subtitle by hand, or delete a material's subtitles, in the subtitle editor.
- The app is now available in French.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-08-16

- Added iCloud Backup for your library, media, and recordings.
- Safer restore recovery if a restore is interrupted.
- Backup progress now shows size, speed, and file count.
- Added an iCloud file viewer in Settings.
- Added the app version at the bottom of Settings.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-08-11

More ways to practise, in more languages.

• Two new interface languages — 日本語 (Japanese) and 한국어 (Korean). Five in total now, pickable in Settings.
• Keep your best take. Re-record a sentence and the previous recording is kept, not overwritten.
• Take history — reopen a practice and browse every take you've made, then jump back to any of them.
• Rebuilt subtitle editor:
  • Shift the timings of a whole subtitle in one move, with a live preview.
  • Automatically repair overlapping subtitle segments.
  • Pick any subtitle track from your material to edit.
  • A cleaner editor layout for splitting lines and fine-tuning word timing.
• Practice session — new settings sheet and take-history sheet, so you stay in control while you work.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-08-11

• Accounts — sign in with Apple, Google, or an email code. Signing in is optional; everything works without it.
  • Your profile in one place: display name, contact details, the language pair you practise between, and your membership status.
  • Rebuilt subtitle editor — split a line into as many parts as you need, cut the translation at its own natural breaks, and drag each split to the right moment.
  • Fine word timing — select any run of words and nudge where they start, where they end, or shift them together, with a preview before you commit.
  • Edit subtitles without leaving practice. Your place in the audio, and your recordings, stay where they were.
  • Export any material's subtitles as an SRT file you keep.
  • Swipe a row left in your library to pin or delete it.

### 1.0 — 2026-08-05
