### 5/5 — Very useful app

*2020-02-21*

I bought this for school thinking I would never use it, but it has become indispensable to my Shakespeare work. A necessary app for any student of Shakespeare!!

### 5/5 — Essential for any actor!!!

*2020-02-21*

This app helps me tremendously. The voices are clear, the category is vast, and the content can’t be found anywhere else. A must have!!

### 5/5 — Auditions

*2020-02-21*

Had no trouble with audio. Don’t know about those other reviews.

Can’t do much better if you need help with an audition. Shakespeare auditions are far less of a worry now. Essential.

### 5/5 — Wonderful!

*2020-02-21*

This is an invaluable and essential tool for any actor working in theatre on any kind of classical text. If I could give more than five stars I would!

### 5/5 — Thank you!

*2018-10-13*

Speaking English as my second languague, I found very challenging learning texts from Shakespeare. Thanks to this app and magnificent work of Shane Ann everything seems so much easier. It is very easy to use and has been nothing but helpful. I can’t recommend it enough!

### 5/5 — A must-have for every actor

*2018-02-22*

This app is priceless. If you ever work on Shakespeare, you'll come upon words for which you need to check -- or double-check --the pronunciation, and this app definitively provides not only the most common pronunciation, but also what other pronunciations that word might have, depending on the scansion of the line.

A culmination of years of scholarship and then recording and development, the app is a tour-de-force in its comprehensiveness. Don't work on Shakespeare without it.

### 5/5 — Very Useful

*2016-05-27, version 1.0*

All actors doing Shakespeare need either a pronunciation dictionary, or this app. GET THE APP! It's made my life better, because it's so much more convenient. When you need to know how to pronounce those obscure words or names, you have it in you pocket. Not only that, you have a voice say it for you, which you can't get from a book.

### 5/5 — Must have!

*2016-04-18, version 1.0*

For audition sides, you're pretty sure how to pronounce each word, but this app makes you absolutely confident. Can't be without it!

### 5/5 — Every actor should have this app!

*2016-04-12, version 1.0*

Whether you're doing a show on Broadway or rehearsing your high school Shakespeare production, this app is perfect for you. An amazing tool for all levels and very user friendly. I highly recommend it!

### 5/5 — Indispensable

*2016-03-21, version 1.0*

Now I don't have to haul that big, heavy book everywhere (it's not big or heavy). Seriously, it's wonderful to have All the Words on Stage at my fingertips. Now to get a job doing Shakespeare!

### 5/5 — Incredibly useful

*2016-03-19, version 1.0*

Working on a production of Hamlet right now. This app has been indispensable throughout the whole process. Will never work with Shakespeare again without it.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Crashes every time I try to open it.

*2025-01-08*

Disappointed. Waste of $$. How do I get my money back!

### 1/5 — No audio

*2020-09-15*

Audio doesn’t work. iPhone 8. Requested refund immediately.

### 1/5 — Audio does not work on iPhone XS

*2020-02-07*

Every entry just displays a “Please wait” icon when you try to play the audio pronunciation. Please fix this, for $10 this app is a waste without the audio.

### 1/5 — Not Useful

*2019-08-23*

I bought it to improve my diction of Shakespeare. Found out it doesn’t cover almost all of the taming of the shrew text especially the Latin. Also it is not in Shakespeare original language.

### 1/5 — Audio doesn’t work

*2019-07-13*

I tried uninstalling and downloading again. Cannot get audio to work on my compatible iPhone XS Max. Not worth 10 bucks.

### 1/5 — Pronunciation?

*2018-06-09, version 1.1*

I honestly was fooled. I just paid almost $10.00 for an app that I *thought* was going to be a clever, perhaps fun, way to play with Shakespearean pronunciation and accent like one typically hears in plays and film.

This is simply a collection of words pronounced in proper English.

I’ve been duped.

### 1/5 — Not for British English

*2016-04-24*

Big mistake. Before purchasing checked website and couldn't find out whether the pronunciation was in American or British English. As luck would have this is American accented English. Some would argue that Americans speak English closer to the olde version. However American is influenced by Irish accents as well as European inflexions. I love Shakespeare played by RSC actors and have been disappointed. For Americans this app is wonderful.

### 1/5 — Does not deliver

*2016-03-28, version 1.0*

The first thing I look up is not even in here. How can you claim to have every word of every play when it is simply not true. List the plays you do have. So those of us with the less then popular ones know what we're not getting for our money. You could have been so good

### 2/5 — Great app so far - UPDATED

*2018-01-17*

Update: Okay, I’m actually pretty disappointed. The audio pronunciations have NEVER worked for me. I gave this app five stars at first because I was able to use the written guides (though an IPA addition would be hugely helpful), and I just figured the bugs would be worked out later. I don’t know, maybe it works for other people? When I try to listen to a pronunciation, a “Please Wait” pops up, and then goes away, and then nothing. It’s been almost two years and I’ve changed phones in that time too, but it’s just never ever worked.

******

I've been looking forward to this app for a while and so far I LOVE IT. I can't wait to do more Shakespeare so I can really dive in. (I just did a staged reading of a compilation piece called Women of Shakespeare and we definitely could have used it.) My one complaint is that I downloaded it specifically for one word, and that one word is not listed. Someone please tell me how to pronounce drivest :(

### 4/5 — Great but.....

*2016-02-02, version 1.0*

Nice app-thanks for the work on this-but where's the IPA that's in your book? That would be great. Perhaps you'll add it in the next version?

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2026-06-27*

The app is fantastic. Someone said they can’t hear it. Well, you have to have your volume turned on in order to hear it! The newest version is even better than the original. I use it all the time- in rehearsals and in class and preparing auditions.

### 5/5 — Great Resource

*2026-03-26*

This is such a great resource for people working on Shakespeare text. It’s so easy to use and will be a wonderful lifelong companion to approaching the text!

### 5/5 — Most helpful Shakespeare app ever!

*2026-02-27*

This app is very user friendly and a resource I never go without whenever William comes my way

### 5/5 — A Must-have

*2022-01-20*

Are you an actor? Will you ever perform Shakespeare? If yes, you need this app. Incredibly useful.

### 5/5 — So helpful!

*2020-09-09*

This is so easy to use and practical

### 5/5 — Mr. Shakespeare would be proud

*2020-05-07*

This is a much needed app for most of us who pronunciate word wrong especially words that are Shakespearean. Thank you for making this app. Wonderful - Bravo!!!

### 5/5 — Essential.

*2020-02-21*

I currently study with Shane Anne Younts, and studied with Louis Scheeder in the past at NYU Tisch. The wealth of knowledge in this app is essential for the classical actor or Shakespeare aficionado. You have to know how to say it if you’re going to mean it on stage!

### 5/5 — Game Changer

*2020-02-21*

This app is a game changer. It has helped me navigate so many of Shakespeare’s texts and gave me a much better understanding of the word play he employs in his plays.

### 5/5 — Fabulous App

*2020-02-21*

This app is a life-saver!!!

Some reviews say that the audio doesn’t play, but I simply turned on my ringer (the switch on the left side of the iPhone above the volume buttons) and the audio worked perfectly.

Worth the price and so useful.

### 5/5 — Super Helpful for Actors

*2020-02-21*

This app is super helpful for actors looking to broaden their palate and vocabulary for the words of Shakespeare. Let’s be honest, Shakespeare words can be tough to get into the body, what better way than to have a personal app, ON YOUR PHONE, to assist with how to say the words properly.!

Super effective and helpful.! And comes in handy for those last minute auditions.
