It’s a nightmare of an interface. There’re way too much to click on and the pattern of how to get to certain features seems random and over complicated. It’s nearly impossible to get to edit your bot mode in mobile, and just hard in web. But at least I figured it out in the web version. I like the character form type thing is easier than c.ai’s. and no ads. That’s always a positive. But I am only using my own bots because none rally write in prose. I want it to be like I’m reading a fanfiction. Texting style and script rp seem to be the default. And they use cheesy key phrases from the fandom. You can’t role-play with an Ace Attorney character without them screaming “OBJECTION” every two replies. And they’re just sitting at home, like dude that’s not court. I’m mainly bothered by the cluttered and over complicated interface that leads to finding it hard to edit your character, and the lack of prose form 3rd person bots. ### 2/5 — buggy *2026-07-31, version 1.19* i can’t even click anything! when i was signing it it wouldn’t let me click my apple login and i had to clear the tab just for it to work. that’s not it. it does it for all of it. ### 4/5 — Just downloaded it *2026-07-30, version 1.19* Going to give it a try. 4 star for persona. It was annoying. First of all, make the text a little bit smaller and get rid of that “read more” thing. It’s super tedious to have to click that read more arrow every time. Also, get rid of those automatic premade responses that show up. Those responses are never good and even if they were I wouldn’t use them they just waste up space on the screen. And also, the button to regenerate texts shouldn’t be so hard to get to and should be as easy as just swiping sideways on the message. That’s all! If you fix this I would make this my regular app and probably buy the premium. ### 5/5 — Shapes *2026-07-13, version 1.19* So in my opinion. It’s great and it’s kinda my first time using it so I think it’s a good start ### 4/5 — Very open! At least not that I have seen so far. Many ways to adjust and customize ai so they act like the character you intend as well as pulling information more on its own about the universe of the character. ### 3/5 — A fun app to use *2026-07-08, version 1.19* I genuinely enjoy the app after being addicted to c.ai for so long, the app is easy to use but I would say there’s some downsides. I sometime have to start the conversation with an ai and it’s weird to me, I sometimes don’t know what situation I’d be in and I have to create one myself. Another downside is sometimes the ai does forget past memories used in the chats. Another downside is example is that we’re going to my personas room and the ai mistakes it that were going to the shapes room or the other way around. Otherwise it’s a nice app to use, making your profile, personas, and chats are quite easy and useful. ### 5/5 — Absolutely Peak *2026-07-07, version 1.19* Right off the bat, shapes is single handedly the BEST Ai chat you can get. Its fun, entertaining, absolutely interactive and social and the bots aren’t freaky?! Love this app already. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Was great until this last update *2026-08-19, version 1.20* What the hell is wrong with you all, suddenly changing the app rating and restricting explicit content out of nowhere! If you want a kid-friendly version of your service, make it a new app; you just ruined the experience for everyone already here! ### 1/5 — This was irritating *2026-08-09, version 1.19* I wanted to give this app a chance but it wouldn’t even give me one to start with. As soon as I tried to create an account with an email I had never used for this app it kept taking me to welcome back login screen. Not only is this wrong but it also kept saying that my email wasn’t even verified but I can’t find a way for the app to send me a verification link. So I guess there is no way for me to use this app without having to create an entirely new email address. It does too much and and it’s just irritating. So, yes, you can have conversations/dms with real people or AI/Shapes or both. And while you can role play with the shapes (that are made by the community like other similar apps), they have a wide range of types and uses. Some could be made for, from romantic story like RPs or for general friendly conversations. Other shapes can help with math or suggest Italian food and help with recipes. You can also edit the shape you’re using, swapping out LLMs and changing the Shape’s internal programming with custom commands. It’s all more simple than it sounds. There is a premium package and while I don’t use it, it gives you many more fancy LLMs like grok 5.1(?), Shapes speaking out their messages and other cool features. I’m not the biggest fan of AI personally I have more issues with it in general but I used this as a means to have someone(/thing) to talk to (lame ik) and it worked great.
