## What is SharkQuakifornia?

SharkQuakifornia is a California map for two things that actually matter on this coast: earthquakes and shark incidents.

This is situational awareness. It is not earthquake early warning, not ShakeAlert, and not a substitute for official Wireless Emergency Alerts or the free MyShake app.

WHAT YOU GET

• Live USGS California catalog (M1.0+) on a native MapKit map
• Magnitude-colored quake markers and a 24-hour live list
• Documented shark incidents: red = fatal, blue = non-fatal
• Clusters that split apart as you zoom — no tap-to-zoom jump
• Great White Red Triangle overlay (Bodega Head → Farallones → Año Nuevo)
• Major California fault traces you can highlight from the legend
• Seismic stations as squares — tap one for details and a real seismogram from SCEDC
• Search the map for a place (Pismo Beach, San Diego, home) and fly there
• Distance from your home pin on events
• Weekly / monthly / yearly quake reports with PDF export
• Unique alert tones per magnitude band, plus quiet hours
• Optional “use my location” only when you ask for it

DATA

Earthquakes: U.S. Geological Survey ComCat, California only.
Shark incidents: California Department of Fish and Wildlife incident database, merged daily with public GSAF records. Sightings are not shown — there is no complete statewide sightings feed.
Waveforms: Southern California Earthquake Data Center (SCEDC) miniSEED for the station you tap.

NOTIFICATIONS

Allow alerts to hear new California quakes while SharkQuakifornia is open. Distance from home is shown on the banner; it does not hide the event. This app does not wake the phone with early-warning seconds before shaking. Use MyShake / WEA for that.

PRIVACY

No accounts. No ads. No tracking. Location is used only if you tap “Use my current location,” stays on device, and is never sold.
