## What is Shaterian?

Shaterian is a quiet place for your memories, your days, and how you are feeling. It was made for older adults and for people living with Parkinson's, and it is built on one idea: what you tell it is kept on your iPhone. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose or treat anything.

SPEAK, AND IT IS KEPT
Tap once and talk. Your words are turned into text, tagged, and filed for you. There is nothing to organise and no forms to fill in.

ASK ABOUT YOUR OWN LIFE
Ask out loud or type. Shaterian answers from what you have told it and shows which memories the answer came from; when they do not hold the answer, it says so rather than making something up.

A LINE IT WILL NOT CROSS
Questions about diagnosis, dosage or whether to change a treatment are recognised and turned back to your own care team rather than answered by a model.

SEE HOW YOUR LIFE CONNECTS
Your memories appear as a constellation of the people, places and themes in them, and on a map.

BRING IN WHAT IS ALREADY YOURS
Photographs and workouts can become memories, only the ones you choose, and your contacts help it recognise the people you mention. Your calendar and Reminders are read, never copied.

ASK IT TO DO THINGS
Set a reminder or a routine for your pills, call or message someone, put an appointment in your calendar — it proposes and you confirm. Reminders and routines arrive as notifications; calls, messages and calendar entries finish on Apple's own screens.

HOW YOU ARE TODAY
A question about your life each day, a mood note, and, if it helps, somewhere to log a dose and how you feel when you take it.

A TWIN THAT LOOKS LIKE YOU
Choose a photograph and Shaterian builds a quiet 3D likeness coloured from it. If you choose, the front camera takes the shape of your face, once; that shape stays on this iPhone, is never sent anywhere, and is deleted the moment you remove it.

YOUR CIRCLE
Invite the people who look after you with a link. In the Shaterian Caregiver app they see your routines, when you take your pills, and only the memories you choose, and they can suggest a reminder, which waits for your yes. You can stop at any time.

MADE TO BE USABLE
Type that grows with your iPhone's own text size, up to half again as large. Generous targets for unsteady hands, and a calm palette, in dark or light.

PRIVACY, PLAINLY
There is no account and no password. Signing in with Apple is optional and tells the app your name. Your memories, your health notes and your photograph are held on this iPhone. There is no server of ours. Sync with iCloud keeps your memories — only your memories — in your own iCloud and in step across your iPhones, and it stays off until you turn it on or sign in. What you share with your circle reaches them through your own iCloud, encrypted, never through a server of ours. Where your iPhone cannot turn speech into text itself, Apple's speech service does. Nothing is sold, used for advertising, or used to train anything.

TWO WEEKS FREE, THEN $2.99 A MONTH
Shaterian is free for two weeks, then $2.99 a month (or the equivalent in your currency), charged to your Apple Account and renewing each month until you cancel — in Settings › your name › Subscriptions, at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your memories stay on your iPhone whatever you decide, and you can see and remove them from the app without subscribing.

MEDICAL DISCLAIMER
Shaterian is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat or give medical advice, and it is not a substitute for your doctor, nurse or specialist. Always seek the advice of your doctor or care team before making any medical decision, including about medication, and use this app in addition to their care, not instead of it. The general health information in the app comes from Parkinson's UK, the Parkinson's Foundation and the NHS, and every source is listed inside the app.

### 5/5 — A life full of memory that I treasure

*2026-10-27*

Brilliant! I love this app. This is very exciting to capture my life and all my memories as my treasures for myself and my family. totally my last bucket list.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5.1 — 2026-10-27

Ask Smith for another question, or tap Another question, and he now says it aloud, as he does the first question each day. He also understands "ask me something else" and, straight after he asks, "another one", where before he kept it as your answer.

An appointment or a reminder for a day after the clocks change is now put on that day, not the day before.

### 1.5.0 — 2026-10-26

Your circle. Invite the people who look after you — family, a friend, a carer — with a link you send any way you like. In the Shaterian Caregiver app they see your routines and reminders, when you press Taken, and only the memories you choose. They can suggest a routine or a reminder, which waits for your yes, and leave you notes. You are told who joins and who leaves, and you can take anyone out, or stop sharing, at any time. Find it in Settings, under Your circle, or ask Smith.

Two tabs. The bar at the bottom is now Smith, Memories and Settings. Today's question, news from your circle and your mood (the face at the top left) are on Smith's screen. Memories is the map of your life, with On this day and Bring things in under it. Health and your twin are in Settings, under Lab.

A question every day. Smith asks you one question about your life each day, about something different each time, and says it aloud the first time you open the app that day, with Speak replies aloud on. Answer by talking to him, or tap Not today. "Stop asking me questions" stops them.

Just tell Smith. Tell him something that happened, or say "remember that…", and he keeps it as a memory and says so.

Smith understands more of what you ask, the way you ask it: what is on today, a reminder's time in words, "tell me about…", "do you remember…?". Ask about the world and he answers from what he knows; ask about the app and he answers from its guide. Say there is an emergency and he gives you the number to call, first. He keeps his own voice through long answers.

Your mood, a day at a time. Tell Smith how you feel, or tap the face, and Health shows the last 14 days.

Word documents (.docx) and old text files from Windows computers can be brought in.

Simple mode, in Settings under Lab: only Smith, his question of the day, a way to tell him something and a box to ask about a memory. Nothing is deleted.

Fewer words on every screen, and cards that fold.

Forget everything now removes your face too, and Delete your account and data removes every routine, reminder and setting as well.

Rate Shaterian, in Settings under Help, or ask Smith.

The diagnostics log no longer holds any of your words. When iCloud is waiting for your Apple Account password, Shaterian now says so. Taken, pressed on a notification while the app is closed, is now recorded.

### 1.4.4 — 2026-10-15

On iPhones with less memory, such as the iPhone SE, Shaterian could close itself while getting Smith's voice ready, every time it was opened. It now opens every time. On those iPhones Smith speaks in one of the iPhone's own voices, and his own voice is not downloaded.

On any iPhone, if getting his voice ready ever closes the app, Shaterian now notices and uses one of the iPhone's voices instead of trying again. You can let him try again in Settings, under his name.

Nothing you have saved is affected.

### 1.4.3 — 2026-10-03

Settings is tidier: seven rows — Smith, Reminders, Someone to call, Looks, Your information, Help and the Lab. Each row says how it is set now; tap one to open it.

You can also ask Smith to change a setting for you: "switch to light mode", "call yourself Sam", "use a woman's voice", "turn on the daily reminder at 7 in the evening". He does it and tells you what he did. Before he turns on Sync with iCloud, or changes the person to call when you are lost, he asks you first.

If you were given a code for Shaterian, tap I have a code on the subscription page, or Redeem a code in Settings, or just tell Smith "I have a code". Apple's own page opens: you type the code there, and Shaterian never sees it.

New in Settings, in the Lab, where we try things out: Scan an object. Point the camera at one thing and tap Scan; Shaterian lifts it out of the picture and, where your iPhone can, says what it is. Keep it as a memory, with its picture.

Your picture at the top right of the Smith tab now opens your own things, as the name at the top of Today does. Questions you ask Smith are kept, but no longer counted as memories. And the night sky, the Universe and the wave under Smith no longer jump.

### 1.4.2 — 2026-09-27

Smith understands more of what you ask him, and says so plainly when he cannot answer.

More questions about the app are answered from its own guide when you say "my" or "I" — "Is my data safe?", "How do I add a memory?", "How do I make a doctor report?" — instead of "Nothing in your memories answers that".

A short question about something in your memories, such as "What about the medal?", is better at finding that memory.

On an iPhone without Apple Intelligence, a question about the wider world — "What year was the first moon landing?" — is no longer answered with some of your own memories. Smith says that such questions need Apple Intelligence, and, if it is only switched off, where to turn it on.

What Smith, Settings and Your data say about where your things are kept now matches the privacy policy: on this iPhone, and — with Sync with iCloud on — your memories in your own iCloud as well. The permission prompts for the microphone and speech recognition now say that where your iPhone cannot turn speech into text itself, Apple's speech service does.
