### 3/5 — Reliable but far behind UI

*2026-06-14*

This app does the most important thing it has to do… download dives from your computer even when far from the internet. Something so many other apps seem to struggle with! But the UI is so clunky and lacking features that could make it a true replacement for a paper dive log. (Integrated photos? Link to buddies? Some kind of virtual stamp?) There’s a lot of opportunity for someone to make a truly great digital dive log but no one has done it yet!

### 2/5 — Not on the same level as the computer

*2026-04-27*

I have multiple Shearwater products and absolutely love the computers. The app is glitchy and doesn’t work well with iOS anything. I do most of my work on an iPad and the app is almost useless for everything but the basic viewing. I can’t sort by the various tags and other items on the iPad. Compared to other online and cloud apps, I wish Shearwater would bring the app up the impeccable standards of all their amazing dive computers!

### 4/5 — Works fine

*2026-01-18, version 2.12.9*

I originally rated this app at four stars at (1) below; then changed that to *one* star at (2) below; and have now re-rated it back to four stars at (3) below! Read on for the ridiculous saga!

(1) ORIGINAL REVIEW

I bought a new Shearwater Perdix 2 dive computer and downloaded v2.9.4 of this app. I’m surprised to see that only 2 reviews are still on file, and those are from 4 years ago! I’d also read some critical comments on the web about this app. None of this was encouraging, but here’s what I found.

It downloaded perfectly to, and runs fine on, my old iPhone 8 running ios12.
In my opinion the user interface is fine: intuitive, and mobile friendly.

It connected easily to the Perdix, downloaded the factory dive, and uploaded some custom splash screen text and an image - albeit all v.e.r.y s.l.o.w.l.y 🙂

Although the app has an option to create an account, it seems to work fine, so far, without having done that.

My only criticisms are as follows.

- Some of the text and icons are quite small, with no option to make them bigger.

- It wasn’t clear initially where the downloaded dive data is actually stored: on the phone? in a generic Shearwater account? in my Apple iCloud account? I now believe it’s on the phone, because the app displays the factory dive, even when the phone is put in Airplane mode, ie. cut-off from the Internet.

4 stars 🙂

(2) AFTER A SOFTWARE UPDATE

The update I just performed on 4 Sep 2023 now requires you to create a cloud account, and *will not open the rest of the app* if you decline to do that.

There was no warning given of this change.

*FAIL*. 1 star.

(3) THE LIGHT DAWNS!

In late 2025 I realized that it *is* still possible to use the app without a cloud account, but that was unclear because of a user interface change. So I’ve now downloaded all my pending (un-downloaded) dives, but can’t remember their locations, buddies and so on ☹️

The app is still ok, in my opinion, so I’ve re-rated it to what I had originally - 4 stars. But it does surprise me that clearly, no-one from Shearwater reads these reviews!

### 3/5 — Anticuada

*2025-11-18, version 2.12.9*

Es una APP anticuada, sin gráficos, que sea capaz de calcular un recorrido, sabiendo donde empiezas, el rumbo que vas llevando, profundidad y donde finalizas. Aprendan de Suunto.
Por favor, en castellano, (español)

### 4/5 — One thing missing

*2025-09-20, version 2.12.6*

I like a lot about this app, but I had trouble connecting my computer on some dives, after doing the troubleshooting, most of the dives uploaded, but not all. Being able to manually enter dives would be a very good feature.

### 2/5 — what

*2025-08-28, version 2.12.6*

what on earth is this app 😂

### 3/5 — UX à revoir

*2025-05-10, version 2.12.4*

Bonne application, fonctionne bien mais l’interface utilisateur est clairement laide depuis les années.

### 4/5 — GPS

*2025-04-01*

A rather peculiar interface, I hope you'll make it better someday. The computer is wonderful.

It would be great if you could add the ability to add GPS coordinates and a diving map through the app.

### 1/5 — Primitive

*2025-03-09, version 2.12.3*

What a shame - for the premier Dive Computer company to put out an app that lacks any substance other than what could be made with rudimentary pen and paper. A college student on a weekend could write and app better than this, suggest you update as Garmin is pulling ahead

### 3/5 — Functional - design from another time

*2025-02-11, version 2.12.2*

If you ignore the dated appearance and learn to work with the quirks, this is a capable log. Certainly less annoying to use than the PADI app, and probably ties with SSI with different strengths and frustrations. Top asks • landscape layout on iPad so it works with keyboards • be able to copy and paste from one dive to another. I would put these functional improvements ahead of a UI refresh.

### 1/5 — Lazily Resting On Their Laurels

*2025-02-07*

I can’t believe how primitive and poorly functioning this app is. Either Shearwater is simply resting on their laurels and so don’t care about making this app appear like it’s from the last quarter century, or are willingly being negligent in its design and functionality because they hate mobile apps. It doesn’t make sense. I am a hobby coder and could (and have!) designed a better UI than what they are offering. Not only that, I get errors and bugs literally every time I open it. It’s preposterous. I know Shearwater is a small company, but literally ONE decent app dev could build something 19x better. Heck, poach someone from the Garmin app team, there’s probably 50 of them over there! Shearwater….GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER AND STOP BEING LAZY! GARMIN HAS FINALLY CAUGHT UP, AND NIPPING AT YOUR HEELS. THE MARKET/DIVERS ARE FINALLY TAKING NOTE OF THIS. IF YOU CONTINUE TO STAGNATE, YOU WILL BE AMAZED HOW FAST YOUR PREVIOUSLY “LOYAL” CUSTOMERS WILL ABANDON YOU. I love my Perdix 2, so I don’t want that to happen. But us customers only have so much grace to give, especially when it seems that our patronage is being taken for granted.

### 2/5 — Digne des années 2000

*2025-02-05, version 2.12.2*

Fais correctement le minimum attendu (restituer les données de plongées) mais dans un UX digne des années 2000. Dommage, elle serait parfaite avec un petit coup de jeune :)

### 2/5 — Pretty Limited Functionality

*2025-01-20*

I have to agree with others who are deeply disappointed in this app, given how great Shearwater products are. The app has very limited functionality, and won’t even allow you to add dives. The syncing between devices is iffy at best. Very disappointed. Shearwater should do better to support their excellent equipment.

### 2/5 — Wonderful Dive Computer, Garbage App

*2025-01-12, version 2.12.2*

For a company that produces such a wonderful dive computer, I’m befuddled at how the app can be so terrible. It’s excruciating to use as an electronic dice log. Feels like it’s from the DOS era. Hire some developers!

### 3/5 — There is still a lot to do

*2025-01-11, version 2.12.2*

Please clean up the German translation of the Italian fragments. A revision of the GUI with a more modern coat of paint would certainly please all users. It would be welcome if the professional quality of the diving computers would undoubtedly also be reflected in the app.

### 2/5 — Works, but …

*2024-12-06, version 2.12.2*

German translation is a mix as German and Italian, Horror.

Downloads of the dives run over 8 min for one dive, in this time i Download over 1000 dives with same data from a ostc divecomputer. What is wrong here? The GUI is Not userfriendly you can Not configure it as you Need it, in my Point this is a Beta Version with a good potential but shearwater have to use this .. we will see what we get in what time.

Hope we got a good version in 2025 🤡

### 2/5 — Fantastic dive computers, dismal iOS app

*2024-11-16, version 2.12.1*

I have a new Tern TX and Swift transmitter. Fantastic. They just work. Period.

This app, it does display all the data, in a Netscape circa 2001 type way. It’s shockingly bad for an iOS app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — It just keeps getting worse

*2026-03-02, version 2.12.9*

The graph is so cluttered you can’t see anything useful any more. The check boxes underneath that let you turn off the data you don’t want to see are gone.

### 1/5 — So mad

*2026-02-11, version 2.12.9*

Cloud sucks and you make me connect. looking for another dive computer

### 1/5 — Can’t add dives.

*2025-11-12*

It’s dumb that you can’t add in dives. Not being able to put something for when your computer missed the dive(for whatever reason). It also can’t set it to your number of dives without changing every number but then they will not line up in the log vs computer. Bending able to correct is actually really important because life happens.

### 1/5 — Not Loading Dives

*2025-09-01*

I made the mistake of updating the Ap and the firmware on my dive computers before coming on my trip. Now it is totally unable to download dives from either my Perdix AI or my Perdix 2. It seems to get halfway through the process and then loses track of what it’s supposed to be doing. It used to work but now it doesn’t.

### 1/5 — This app is painful to use

*2025-08-28, version 2.12.6*

I couldn’t design a worse UI than this not even if I put effort into it. Everything about the UI is wrong, every element, every interaction, every screen. It logs dives, that’s pretty much it. Literally the worst app I have ever used. The Peregrine TX is amazing, but the app is pure garbage, what a shame.

### 1/5 — Will not synch

*2025-08-25, version 2.12.6*

I have tried everything but my dives won’t synch. Crazy how great the computers are and how absolutely terrible the app is.

### 1/5 — Extremely lame app

*2025-08-08, version 2.12.6*

It’s using coding from 15 years ago. Terrible UI. Needs a complete overhaul using modern programming.

### 1/5 — Technically ok, usability bad

*2025-06-28, version 2.12.5*

Honestly - I love using an app to capture my dives. Have been using DiverLog+ but I changed to another dive computer (Shearwater Peregrine). Love the computer - hate the app. It captures the essential information but the usability is the worst I’ve ever seen on an app. The drop-down boxes are not practical, the look and feel looks like it comes straight from the mainframe era and it cruelly lacks capabilities (e.g. to store my diving equipment for later reuse).

### 1/5 — Приложение испортилось

*2025-06-03*

все кривое , глючит, тормозит

### 1/5 — Unreliable: Losing Data

*2025-03-26, version 2.12.3*

Written 26 March 2025. The current version of Shearwater client cannot be trusted to reliably synchronise and retain information entered about dives. Specifically, user entered information appears to be most at risk. Strangely, the basics of the dive statistics gathered by your computer appear to be safe. Other than observing the data loss repeatedly, I have been unable to identify what the common issue is. Shearwater support have acknowledged to having had some problems, but this seems more fundamental than they have admitted to.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Well, it works for me

*2026-05-20*

Lots of complaints about this app. For me, it does what I want reliably. More focused on the technical aspects of diving than say what marine species i saw but that’s a small thing. The synchronization with the desktop works well and functions like import and export there are pretty good although more focused on export than import so it can be hard to get dives in from previous apps. People complain about the UI but no worse and in some ways better than the UI for Dive Log for example or Subsurface, 2 of the other remaining dive log applications that haven’t died. I travel the world a fair amount diving and it works well enough tracking the gear i’m using so i can keep track of what weights to use. Not as full featured for gear management, shops, marine life, etc as other aps. Mostly it’s focused on the technical aspects of diving and how it relates to your dive computer.

### 5/5 — Facile d’utilisation et pratique

*2024-12-24, version 2.12.2*

Avec le téléchargement automatique des plongées, tout est simple. Avec le teric, aucun problème. Ce qui serait top, c’est d’avoir l’information GFSurf sur le graphe.

### 5/5 — Easy sync to computer

*2024-12-06, version 2.12.2*

Works well.. a little bit more clearly graph would be appreciated and better scrolling, but synchronizing and downloading the dives works smooth and easy, and the cloud is perfect when using different devices!

### 5/5 — Très bien

*2024-04-15, version 2.11.4*

Facil et utile

### 5/5 — Отлично!

*2024-01-17*

Все ясно, понятно, удобно.
Спасибо!

### 5/5 — Bien, pero siempre de puede mejorar

*2023-04-21, version 2.9.10*

Funciona bien y muestra bastante información sobre las inmersiones. Lo que me gustaría tener, es la posibilidad de ver la profundidad media en un punto concreto de la inmersión.

### 5/5 — APP有中文版了！非常貼心的廠家！

*2021-12-24, version 2.8.2*

真的有用心聆聽！改版後！APP程式操作全中文了

### 5/5 — Gratitude

*2021-12-15*

Thank you for supporting the Russian language. We have been waiting for her for a very long time. We are waiting for the support of the Russian language in the menu of your wonderful diving computers!

### 5/5 — Russian Language

*2021-10-31*

Make support for the Russian language in the application. A lot of Russian-speaking divers have already purchased your products.

**Developer response:** Hi DenisKharin85,
We have just released a new version with 11 supported languages, Russian included! Happy Diving!

### 5/5 — Peregrine update.

*2021-08-12*

When Russian language for peregrine?
